Description

Our 70231 Hitch Mount Truck Bed Extender effectively extends your truck bed for carrying longer payloads. Adjustable length and width allows for many different applications including: Ladders, Racks, Canoes, Kayaks, Long Pipes, Lumber and more. Constructed from heavy duty steel with reflective tape on the front and sides for increased visibility and safety. The side arms can be folded down to create supports for a portable work area and the 4 quick release clevis pins allow for quick assembly and disassembly. This product is designed to fit 2-Inch receivers and has a load capacity of 300 pounds. Length: 53-1/2-Inches from center of the 1/2-Inch hitch pin hole to the end of extension. Adjustable width from 28-1/4-Inches to 48-3/4-Inches, adjustable height from 4-Inches to 10-Inches. Hitch pin sold separately.

I’ve been very happy with the MaxxHaul 70231 Hitch Mount Truck Bed Extender. It has two configurations, although so far I’ve only used the shorter setup. I drive a Tacoma with a 5-foot bed, and it works perfectly for hauling my extension ladder and half bundles of EMT. The extender is solid and doesn’t feel cheaply made at all. It assembled easily and has worked exactly as expected. I also purchased the MaxxHaul 70050 Trailer Hitch Lock based on another reviewer’s recommendation. Some reviews mention that the extender can feel a little loose. That’s technically true, but this isn’t like a rigid trailer hitch. Because the extender has a couple of sections, a little play actually makes sense. If it were completely rigid it could potentially put more stress on the components. Overall the quality has been very good and it’s been a great solution for hauling longer materials with a short bed truck. If you have a Tacoma or any short-bed pickup and occasionally need to carry ladders, conduit, lumber, or similar materials, this works really well. Very happy with the purchase. ... show more

For price, was very happy with this item. Works very well for one or two kayaks on the back of the truck. Pretty lightweight and is sturdy enough. Very easy to set up and fits well with my dodge ram 1500. Only thing is the top two corners always dig into the side of the kayaks and worry me that they will puncture the sides so I’ve had to make some at home adjustments. But aside of this it’s a good product and has been used pretty frequently. ... show more

Works great for my 12’ kayak. It was easy to put together. Seems very sturdy. Has a slight bit of movement but that’s because of where it mounts into the receiver hitch but isn’t an issue. It also comes with a big safety flag to put on the end of your load.

Needed a way to get 14’ casing trim and this handy little hitch extender worked perfectly. Can’t beat it for the price. Useful tip: supplied hitch pin was too large in diameter to fit through my receiver hitch hole but lucky I had a leftover pin laying around that worked. So just be aware that the supplied pin may not fit all receiver hitches And yes, it wobbles in the receiver when you’re using it in the vertical position such as my picture shows on my SUV. It’s not a foolproof perfect design but what do you expect for $50/60 ? Breakdown is a breeze to quickly remove from your vehicle and place it back inside when you’re done with it I’m sure the thing will serve me well for years to come and come in handy transporting long cargo. We've got two single kayaks and a big tandem. I've always hauled the singles either on top of the Grand Cherokee in J-Cradles (which requires a ladder) or on a small trailer I upfitted for kayaks. The tandem always had to be hauled in the trailer. Both of those methods worked, but each way has its drawbacks. I bought this hoping for a quicker, easier way to load and unload and man, it really does the job perfectly. We used it for the first time last weekend. I took us literally seconds to load and unload our 14.5' tandem. Once unloaded, I pulled the extender and threw it in the back of the Jeep so it wouldn't get stolen. I put a strap around the side bars during transport and it rode like a champ. Obviously, I couldn't close the hatch, so I had to make sure there was nothing lightweight laying around in the back, but this is a game changer for quick paddling trips. If there's a threat of rain, I can put a pool noodle across the top of the kayak and pull the hatch down and bungie it to keep water out of the Jeep. I measured and I could get all three kayaks in the back using this thing. Wish I would've thought of this years ago. This also comes with a heavy duty bright orange hang-flag to clip onto whatever you're hauling. Nice touch. ... show more
