Excellent Unit. Was a direct replacement for the Extreme brand dog door (discontinued brand/support). Slightly darker in color. The first one lasted 6 years and the flaps finally ripped to the point Gorilla tape said nope I can’t carry you any longer lol. Could not find replacement doors, even though that unit’s frame was still in great shape. This new Mavricflex unit fit right in with just a hair of bending the original cut opening. Our door is a steel outdoor door with foam in the middle. Took a hammer and bent the edges slightly. I had cut the original hole tightly to the edge of the old dog-door. If you’re cutting for the first time, you’ll be golden with the measurements template. The template was AWESOME. I do recommend taking door off hinges and laying flat if possible. Warning: Wear gloves, especially for steel doors. Those little metal slivers can be bad and easy to get embedded in skin or paws. Also recommend a strong vacuum and magnet to get all pieces up so dogs don’t get them in their paws! I used some white silicone between the frame and the steel door for a nice weather seal. I also used it to caulk around the edge of the dog door frame for draft control and to make it look nice. Definitely helped stopped the draft. I installed this on a cold February day and the old unit was letting in so much air. This new unit helped mitigate that draft very well. Just as the old unit, this Mavricflex unit has very robust frame. However this unit has a much stronger set of flaps (I think 3 instead of 2 layers) with stronger magnets than the old unit. It’s a little louder because they are a little heavier and swing a couple times before the magnets fully stop it. Not a problem though…we like the noise knowing the pups have gone in or out. The block-off cover slides in place well. We didn’t like it at first because it seemed like a two-hand operation to slide up for entry and down for block-off. Once it gets loosened up after a couple uses, it will become useable with one hand. You may have to tilt it right or left to disengage the tab for sliding. Just play with it and you’ll see. Don’t get too rough because it is just plastic. It’s nice because with my bad back, I can work it while only partially bending over. This style of block off cover is much better than that other brand’s doors that have push-on block-offs. Our brother has one of those and the dogs pop it off easily AND it takes bending down and putting on with two hands.

First off, it was an impressive packing job. Substantial rubber bumpers were put on all 8 corners to protect the product in shipping and they did their job. Very heavy cardboard was also used. Second, instructions used both words and pictures. (I hate instructions that are pictures only). Installation was relatively easy. We took the door down to lay flat across saw horses for the cut out and then rehung it for the phase of installing the door. Third, and this is my only gripe, there should have been explanations on how to remove the flaps. Our dog does not have a bull-in-a-China shop personality. It is going to take some time for her to get accustomed to the idea of busting through the double flaps. The instructions I received on conditioning starts out with a couple of weeks of a clear opening with no flaps. That is where we are at now and she is getting the idea. At night we use the locking panels for temperature and security protection. Overall, the product gets highly marks.

This door is working great. The multi flaps with the side magnets keep the air and heat out. Having a window turned out nice. Our 70 pound bull dog will stand in the air conditioned room looking out the window (we live in Florida) waiting for the mail man or meter guy to come by and then she will dash out and terrorize them and then return to the ac. It’s holding up really good. We also aimed a Blink camera on it to monitor her coming and going so we know if she is in or out.

This was a great purchase, easy to install and the dogs love it. The reason for 4 stars is because one of the small latches you click to pull the door out has come off. It still works but I feel like that shouldn’t have happened. Other than I recommend buying it.

I had someone install this doggie door for me so I can’t speak to hope easy or hard it was to install although it only took about 30 minutes as the door had a previous doggie door. The best thing about this doggie door is the dual flaps and the dual covers. The flaps have magnets so they stay closed. They are easy enough for the dog to get through but strong enough that my cat can’t get through, which is perfect because I don’t want my cat outside anyway. She was able to get through the single flap on the previous door. The flaps also keep the bugs out. The closure panels go on the inside and outside of the door and for extra security they snap into place and you must push a pin on at least one side to remove them. Overall, I love this doggie door. I did have to purchase this twice because my Pit Bull ate through the first one. No fault of the product as my dog also ate the doggie door that came with the house and she ate the door knob right off the door, too!

Does pretty dang great. We have had it installed for a month or so and it has been great. Wish the magnet was a tad stronger to keep the cold out. With how many dogs we have and them wanting to be in and out, works well.

Installation was easy, door is well built but each side of flaps are 1/8" open gaps to let cold air in! A quarter of an inch total on the each of two flaps makes this unusable in winter. Keeping dog door shut and let dogs out myself. Summertime will be worse with bugs. Maybe I can find weather stripping that will correct this. Unless you have time to fix this don't buy this when they should've built flaps 1/4" bigger!

I had to hire someone to insert this into my door, so in the end, it cost much more than the product itself, but it is very sturdy, high-quality, well-made. I got the extra large and it’s probably too big for my husky and pitbull. A large person could definitely crawl through. I should have gotten the size large.
