I rarely write product reviews even though I am always looking at them before making a purchase. When I do write one I am either very pleased or very unhappy with something. In this case I am very happy with my purchase! This item has far exceeded my expectations. To be honest I wasn't expecting much when I ordered this. I had concerns over the fit and finish and how well it could handle the weight of what (mostly shoes) I wanted to store on it. It feels pretty solid which I find surprising due to its very light weight. It is a simple design but I think it works well. It was easy to put together without any tools, and it was kind of fun assembling it too. I am able to fit two pair of mens size 9-10 shoes on each shelf. I have water shoes, hiking boots, running shoes, sandals and casual shoes. It has really helped me organize things and it looks good. I have it on carpet in a bedroom and its working great. I am overall pleased with the purchase. We're using it in an entry hall, because the boots and high tops we have a lot of don't fit on many basic shoe racks. This self went together easily, and we could also configure it to our specific needs (more boot spaces). It is not a heavy-duty item, by any means, but it doesn't feel flimsy, amd doesn't seem in danger of tipping or collapsing. The big negative: The width of each shoe/boot section is too narrow. It would only fit two pairs of shoes if they were women's flats, or kids' shoes, or something. We end up putting 3 shoes per compartment - so some pairs are broken up across 2 slots. Still, it works. I bought this and installed it in a different configuration than the instructions. As soon as I was done I bought a second set because I love it so much. It is very stable and secure. Note - the hammer is not wooden, it is plastic and it is useless. They should not include it because it just adds to the cost. I really wish I could buy the individual components. I have a ton left over and I would like to build more shelves without buying the entire set. And I really wish I could buy more of the plastic liners. ... show more

It matters not how hard you push or hammer or twist or turn the rods, there's only so much space they can go down, and they are exceedingly prone to randomly fall apart once the building of shelf starts. I literally couldn't touch it to put on the next layer without the 4 cross rods on each shelf falling out. I decided to use Elmers glue inside the holes and it worked well enough for the foundation. I ran out of glue while doing the upper shelves but it seemed steady enough.... until I had to pick it up to put into the closet. Total wreck So rather than disassemble the entire unit to box up and return, I'll buy another glue and fix the 20 or 30 rods that came out from their holes. The other feedback is about wanting to customize the design. There's no diagram showing the different ways to combine the shelves. We need to carefully think this through to make sure we adjust the individual shelf assembly as may be needed. I also wish they'd provided at least 4 of the longest shelf support rods so at least 1 shelf could have a wide space between, and gave us some pieces to use as footing. However these issues sound, look at the pictures I put in, and consider the very reasonable price, and whether taking the extra step of filling the bottom of each hole with glue to ensure easy moving into the closet. ... show more
