I'm pretty picky when it comes to mattress pads/Toppers and, honestly, I haven't really found one yet that doesn't eventually start to not fit so well and get tangled up in the sheets which I find very annoying and uncomfortable. All I really need the thing to do, is to lie flat, cling tightly to the mattress to which it's attached, and protect my body from being able to feel the buttons on the mattress, while not getting all tangled up in the sheets and making it feel like I'm sleeping on a bunch of knotted ropes. You'd think that's not a big ask, but it's evidently a rather rare combination of traits that I have yet to find. Additionally, all that I have owned to this point are prone to pilling and show wear rather quickly even after relatively few washings. The type of pads that I'm referring to are usually almost flat, but with some slight subtly quilted sections to offer a little bit of a cushion between your body and the mattress surface. However, this mattress topper takes a much different approach which I'm curious to see whether or not stands the test of time. This mattress topper, that refers to itself as a "deep pocket mattress protector" is nearly the same thickness as the comforter itself with the primary difference simply being that it has the extended elastic parts on the sides that allow it to cling to the mattress. It's really soft and cushiony and it definitely provides a barrier between your body and the mattress surface. I'm a bit concerned, though, that because of this, it may be even more prone to getting tangled up in the sheets than the flatter designs do. Unfortunately, these types of things are something only time will reveal so I can't comment yet on whether or not this design is better or worse for my particular complaint than the other ones I've come to know and dislike. The other concern I have is whether this thicker design will add an undesirable amount of heat or, perhaps more accurately, not let air circulate through it as readily as the other type does. Being "breathable' is actually one of the claims being made as a feature for these on the listing and perhaps that's true But, again, these are not things I can really be sure of after only a brief period of ownership. If it works as advertised, then I may have found the solution I've been looking for. And, so far, it's been fine (just like all my previous mattress toppers were fine when they were new). So I'm going to give it 4 stars as it fits well, looks nice, is soft and provides a good barrier between the actual mattress and my body. But, if down the road, I find that it starts exhibiting the same undesirable traits of the other mattress pads I've owned, I will report back here with an update.
