  • Happy husband!
Color: 30" Black (Old Version)
We love this smoker. It’s more reliable than the digital version of it. We had to change the computer part of the digital one so many times that we gave up on it. This is analog and we anticipate no issues. It was easy to assemble. Makes the best jalapeño shrimp poppers!

  • Great, basic Smoker
Color: 30" Black (Old Version)
This is exactly what I had been looking for. A no frills, well made, electric Smoker. Assembles in about 15 minutes. You have to put on the four legs with three screws for each leg. Two handles have to be put on. The temp dial has to be mounted. And the front door has to be mounted. All screws and hardware fit perfectly. Smoker has an analog temp gauge on the front of the door. There are two heavy duty handles on each side of the smoker near the top so it's easy to move the smoker around when not in use. Simply to use. Just prep your meat or fish with a marinade, rub or brine. Add meat to the grates in the smoker. Plug in the smoke and set the temp. If you want a slow smoke experience, I suggest using the LOW temp setting. Produces plenty of smoke and really slow cooks the meat or fish. I also highly recommend soaking your wood chips in water for about 30 minutes before adding them to the smoke. This will increase smoke output. It's easy to add chips and water, but have a pot holder or mitt at the ready to pull out the hot grate they both reside on. I have used the hickory chips, the alder chips, and the apple chips. None are overpowering. I am very please with this smoker and can recommend it. I would certainly purchase it again. Most importantly, my wife loves the taste of anything that comes out of it. ... show more

  • GREAT Starter Smoker
Color: 30" Black (Old Version)
I decided I wanted to try my hand at smoking food since I like to try new culinary approaches to cooking. I checked out the various smokers available on Amazon, and this one looked like a good one to start with...no bells and whistles, but it was electric, which I was looking for. I decided to go with electric for the sheer convenience of it. The smoker arrived and was very easy to put together...basically all I had to do was attach the legs. I fired it up the next weekend and smoked chicken wings and thighs. Let me tell you, they were the best chicken wings I have ever had in my life! Nice smokey flavor that was not overwhelming. I also smoked corn in the husks, and it was beyond belief! I may never eat corn on the cob any other way now!! Since then I have smoked a variety of vegetables and even tofu, and have been pleased with the results every time. Smoked tofu is the ONLY way to eat that stuff, LOL! The only complaint I have with this smoker is the drip pan. It is located at the very bottom of the smoker, underneath the electrical element. I did not think it was a good idea to have meat juices dripping onto the electrical element, so I sacrificed one entire rack to put an aluminum drip pan in. I line the aluminum drip pan (it is a lasagna pan) with foil so I can re-use it, and the smoker stays cleaner that way and I don't have to worry about the juices messing up the electrical element. I wish Masterbuilt had designed this smoker with a better drip pan. Other than that, I absolutely LOVE this smoker and would recommend it to anyone who wants to start out smoking food or who just wants a basic smoker!! ... show more

  • Worst quality of anything I've ever bought through Amazon.
Color: 30" Black (Old Version)
I hope it works. The top was noticeably dented, but not enough that it looks like it may break the door seal. The top rack, along with the bracket for it, was bowed and bent. Since the bracket was bent sort of symmetrically, I had to check to make sure that it wasn't supposed to come that way, but the rack is not bent symmetrically and has individual parts that are bent out of frame. The burner at the bottom rubs against the bottom-most chrome rack - which actually comes under it. I'm not totally sure that this is completely dangerous, but it is a support rack that is stuck in contact with an electrical heating element and I can't get it to bend back. This creates a dilemma. I really want a smoker and waited a long time to get this one. Now that it's assembled, should I risk it and try it out, or disassemble it and try to get a replacement? It's just a box to smoke meat in, after all, so I kind of look at it like an old pickup truck, where the dings build character. On the other hand, I didn't pay for something that looks like it was dragged behind a pickup truck to get here. The people who packed it for shipping did a great job of applying Styrofoam in all the right places and tie-wrapping the racks in place. That makes me wonder if it was like this when they boxed it up. If this is what it means to be "master" built, I really don't want to see something built by "beginners!" ---- Update! Like I said, I really wanted a smoker, so I sucked it up and used it anyway. Even though the "thermal" paint on the interior bottom immediately swelled up and flaked, It worked great all 6 times last summer, and even for Thanksgiving. When I first used it this year, the thermostat seemed a bit off, and it didn't seem to heat really well, but it got the job done, and it's supposed to cook slowly. I'm now trying to use it for the second time this year. Upon placing the meat in the smoker, the welding on the top door hinge broke off and the door was barely hanging by the bottom weld, which, if it was checked by the same quality control that handled the rest of this train wreck, may not last through this use. I guess I can drill it out and put my own hinge on it, but this kind of makes my point. This was a complete waste of my money. I'll never buy another product from "Masterbilk" again, and I've finally learned to immediately return things to Amazon unless they are absolutely perfect upon receipt. It's admittedly a high price to pay while learning this, but I guess I was too nice or too slow to learn to not trust vendors or manufacturers without such an experience. ... show more
