I couldn't figure out what the little shoe was for. It's very soft and has a plastic insert to retain it's shape. I charged the pen up since it had 83 percent on the battery level. The addition of two extra grips is helpful. They are not as glossy as the original but add a bit more surface area of grip. I put in a new needle cartridge in and it fit perfectly. No binding or gaps. I reached for a practice skin and it dawned on me that the little shoe was actually a practice skin! These guys thought of everything! The power button is very close to the upper portion of the display and could be difficult to manipulate with larger fingers. The voltage buttons are slightly smaller than the power button and are kind of close to each other. The pen itself has plenty of juice to drive the motor and it does run smoothly. I like the overall set and would highly recommend it.

It kills me to rate this with four stars, because I really like this pen. However, I can't get past the fact that there is significant vibration in the pen, throughout it's entire working range (which is 5.0v to 12.0v). The pen is beautifully made, and runs nicely in terms of noise. It's a bit noisier than I expected, but nothing bad. The grip is fantastic, and if you disagree with that assessment they give you two additional grips (also excellent) to choose from. That alone is pretty amazing. I would add that because this pen has parallel sides you can quickly and simply create a really fat grip with just some folded paper towels, and some grip tape. The grip twist to change the stroke length of the cartridge. The digital LCD readout is fantastic, and faces the user as he/she works. It's easy to monitor both working voltage, as well as remaining battery life. Also included in this kit are: A small bottle of black ink, a small bag of ink caps, some extra rubber O-rings, a single pair of black latex exam gloves, a single roll of narrow grip tape, and some decals. There is a box of excellent Mast brand tattoo cartridges, and a mysterious white rubber sneaker. I have no clue what the purpose of the sneaker is, and have not seen other footwear in other brands' kits. Weird. Comes with charging cable, as well as a clip cord (with RCA plug) so that you can switch over to an AC power supply setup, if you have one. But why would you want to? This pen has an astounding power reserve of 8 hours!!! This is an excellent kit built around a really nice tattoo pen that could be just a bit better. I really love the look and feel of this pen, and even with the vibration it's a winner.

Mast has a FANTASTIC price point for what you're getting. I can't find flaws in the machinery or any of the mechanics in general. Aesthetically, they have always been very eye-catching and it slaps. HARD. You can get hours on one battery with no problem. I just cannot find a chink in the armor of MAST. I've been using them and reviewing them for a few years now and even the customer SERVICE takes care of you! Lastly, I'd like to mention lines. I can always tell just how good the motor is with 2 things. 1. after 20+ years you can tell by the sound- or at least I can. 2. It runs perfectly straight lines out of the box. Yeah man. These rock. my work speaks for itself!!

I've learned a lot about tattooing since getting this, including inevitably an appreciation for the skill it takes to do even the most basic things, like drawing a line and controlling depth. This machine doesn't include a lot of instructions, so you will have to go online to find that, but once you get a sense of what you need to look out for, it appears to include many of the basics that someone who has no experience will appreciate. I was able to practice tattooing the included silicone shoe in no time, using just the supplies in here. I'm very far from attempting to do it on a person, but my journey has begun thanks to this kit!

I really like how this machine comes with a fake shoe to tattoo instead of fake skin. It gives you an art piece to display once you have practiced with it. I also like how it comes with multiple grips even though most of the time you'll be tattooing with a bag around your machine and a bunch of tape. I don't like how it only comes with a built-in battery that can't be swapped out. If your machine dies in the middle of a tattoo what are you supposed to do? Put it onto the charger and wait 2 hours before tattooing again? It's even extra odd because in this price range, you would usually get one with an external battery you can switch out when one dies.

The mast archer is one one the best tattoo machines you eill ever own lets start with the kit extremely high quality vibrant black ink which most kits dont include the best quality of any inks. High quality needles for detailed work. An awsome silicone shoe skin to practice on which hold ink great and looks amazing when your own touch is added. And then... the machine... a superior quality great feeling machine that lays down ink likr butter on bread and is powerfull enough to do any tattoo.
