    • Pretty neat way to split wood,
I have been seeing a lot of these advertised so I figured I'd give it a shot. I'm used to using an axe the old fashioned way, and have had several close calls with my shins. This seems to be a safer alternative that works pretty well. The only downside is you are limited to the diameter you can cut and you must secure this with lag bolts to a stump or similar if you want to use this safely. I mounted it near our fire pit for quick and easy splitting of most of the wood. ... show more

We have really big chunks of wood from a tree we cut down. I thought this would work to chop the wood after seeing the video. Unfortunately, the item did not seem as sturdy as shown in the video sample. It seems that you would have to screw it to the ground if you really want it to be sturdy,

First, I only rate exceptional products as 5-Star products. 3 Stars is an average product that does what it is designed to do. I add a star for excellent value or excellent quality; for both, it gets 5 Stars. This has excellent quality, a solid design and is the same price as the other less well made kindling splitters, so it is an excellent value, as well. It is a solid 5-Star product, despite being made in china. I am very happy with this splitter. Bear in mind that this is a "kindling" splitter and NOT a log splitter. As a kindling splitter, this thing excels at producing perfectly sized peices of kindling for the fire. It is a solid design, but I never took apart the other one that I have to pack it flat either, so there is little to no value in a splitter than "dismantles". I cannot say enough about how happy I am with this thing! It really is that nicely made and works that well. As I stated before, it is a solid, one-piece design and that is perfect for travel to and use at the campsite. My neighbor saw me using it and asked to borrow because he suffered a stroke a few years ago and has little to no use of his right arm. With this he simply placed one end of a piece of split firewood in the opening, with one sitting on the splitter edge. Then he picked up the mallet and whacked the other end a couple of times and out came the kindling, he was over the moon. Good concept, but it could be better. If you have the right size logs to split, this is a good tool. I was lucky enough to have a stump I could bolt it down to with the included lag screws. So far so good. I have some 18" long logs cut that I need to split. Most of them were bigger than 7", so they didn't fit at all. Anything smaller than 6" tended to lean to the side, making it harder to hit squarely with my sledgehammer. The sweet spot is logs 6-7" in diameter, 12-18" tall. Look at the picture from the side. You will see that there isn't much height between the splitting wedge and the top of the frame. I had a hard time getting anything smaller than 6" to stand up straight enough to split. I'd give it more stars if the frame were tall enough to hold logs straight. ... show more

I love my name brand splitters. Genuinely some of the best purchases I've ever made. They work so well even my little guys can contribute, which they love. I keep the larger one around the house for cookouts around the firepit. I keep the smaller version in the RV for camping. This is by far the best off-brand splitter I have seen and used. It looks and feels the same heirloom quality as the name brand. The X design is even cooler in person. In my experience, if you're looking for the same quality at half the price, this is it. Don't hesitate. The pics show how much wider the teeth are than another off-brand competitor that actually cost more. If I were spending my own money, I would absolutely choose this splitter and save the difference. ... show more

Ordered this MARVOWARE Kindling Splitter for my parents who mostly heat their home with wood in the winter. We have a powered log splitter but this is much quicker for creating those 2-3 inch starter pieces. When I opened it at first I thought the screws were missing, but they were taped to one of the legs. I attached it to a large round and then proceeded to test it out. Found it much easier and safer than splitting quarters by hand. In no time I had a pile of intermediate sized chunks of wood that will be perfect for catching the larger splits. I read one of the top reviews claiming it was junk because it would not split knotted or spiraled wood. I have to disagree, when hand cutting kindling you always have to choose pieces with decent grain or you will struggle with an axe, wedge or hand splitter like this. It could be a little larger, but then the wood would probably fall out easier after splitting... as I have not used other sizes I am not sure if that is a valid complaint or not. The product is indeed heavy and durable and I expect it to last for quite a while. At the time of this review the seller was offering a 30% off coupon which makes it much more reasonable in price.
