Description

The lightweight fluid video system MVK500AM includes the fluid video head (60mm half ball) MVH500A and the twin leg video tripod MVT502AM (aluminum, middle spreader) The MVH500A is a lightweight head with a wider platform for HDSLR bodies and the sliding plate travels to balance the latest interchangeable lens cameras. The entry-level 500 ensures smooth shots and fine control with up to 5kg (11 lbs.) of equipment. MVH500A is supplied with a 60mm half ball video tripod mount. The 500 has professional fluid cartridges on both pan and tilt axes to ensure that every camera movement is smooth, controlled and precise. Faster, easier and safer to use: the side lock system allows the camera and sliding QR plate to click quickly into the head from above, instead of needing to be aligned and slid in from the back. No secondary safety lock is necessary. The side lock system also makes it quicker and simpler to lift the camera out of the head from above. The 500 has a pre- set counterbalance of 2.4kg (5.3 lbs.), but is able to support equipment of up to 5kg (11 lbs.). The 500 has one Easy Link 3/8" connector to allow an external monitor or other accessory equipment to be fitted. The MVT502AM video tripod is a traditional 2-stage, aluminum twin-tube video tripod that has professional features yet is designed to be intuitive, user-friendly and suited to lightweight applications. The MVT502AM has telescopic aluminum legs for compactness and reduced weight; its innovative ellipse-profile tubing with redesigned leg locking collars give it excellent levels of rigidity and stability. The first-stage spreader has improved ergonomics and ease of use, while the tripod's rubber feet improve grip on all floor and ground surfaces. A rubber strap ensures easier, safer transport. Supplied with padded carrying bag. Specifications Closed Length 28.35 in Column Cross Section three-faceted Maximum Height 60.63 in Minimum Height 26.57 in Load Capacity 11.02 lbs. Weight 6.83 lbs.

  • Tolerable head, poor legs, no spikes
Style: MVK500AM
I've had this for two years now mostly shooting birds and other wildlife. The weight is tolerable and the fluid head is just adequate although a bit sticky for long zoom panning, and a lot more sticky on the tilt. Unfortunately the head has a nonstandard 60mm bowl which is practically untransferable to any other tripod. And transfer it I would like. The problem is the spreader. It's attached to the legs with a loosey-goosey plasticky joint that provides no rigidity, it just keeps the legs from spreading further. Should say used to keep. The first joint broke when the tripod got knocked over. The other two broke of old age. Currently the spreader is held to the legs with bits of coat hanger wire. The loose spreader design also necessitates the rubber band to hold the legs together when moving the tripod. Yes, every time I pick up the tripod and move to another spot I have to snap the rubber band around the legs. And that rubber band would fall off immediately if I hadn't wired one end to a leg. Add that you cannot buy spike feet for this model, which I really would prefer out in nature, and that's why my 3-star review actually feels generous. If I were doing studio work this would probably be a good deal but for out in the field this was a mistaken choice. Live, pay, and learn. ... show more

  • Disappointing tripod :(
Style: MVH500AH,755XBK
I was excited to finally upgrade my seven year old aluminum Manfrotto tripod but after receiving the tripod I was quickly met with a disappointment. For the size it is lightweight. It's a thicker tubing an everything was good until I mounted my a7Riii and realized that the half ball drag felt like there were metal shards. No matter what I did read the instructions and online videos it seems to be as fluid and easy to use. I didn't see that it was used but perhaps it's a manufacturing defect? Unfortunately, I'm running out of time for some video shoot coming up and needed a video tripod so went with another brand. You'd think for the price I paid, I would get a quality head. Perhaps Manfrotto did change after manufacturing things in China as the overall feel of the head especially felt so plastic and cheap. It's not a $100 tripod either. ... show more

  • I love my Manfrotto!
I'm a film student, and I've owned some pretty modest tripods over the years, generally in the $100-$150 range. For that price you can get some sturdy tripods that work well for still photography, but they don't work well for film. In particular you can't do any sort of smooth panning/tilting sorts of shots. I used some older Manfrotto tripods at school, and definitely saw the value in those, so I bought this as my first real "video tripod". I really really like it! It's not cheap, but it's so easy to do butter-smooth pans. You can even do it with one finger, just smoothly panning. On my first shoot we did two such scenes, and they both worked fabulously. For other static type of shots, the camera performs very well too. It's very sturdy, and goes up pretty high (6'), and the quick release works really well (although it takes a little getting used to). I'm using it with a Canon XA10. The one thing that annoys me about it, is trying to get it level, for a "normal" static shot. The ball-and-socket mechanism is actually a bit awkward to get perfectly straight. It does have a level bubble, but it is in a really awkward place which make it difficult to see, especially in less the bright lighting conditions. Still, this is a brilliant tripod. Some of the other filmmakers that I worked with on this really appreciated it too, and said how much they enjoyed working with it. ... show more

  • Second One owned
Style: MVK500AM
I've owned one before for 5 years and used the heck out of it. The previous one I had didn't come with the stap or the case. I wish it had because it would have lasted much longer . Eventually the spreaders wore out and it was useless by that point. I love this case! Will make it so much easier to haul around with my hands full of gear. Hoping this one can carry me through until I can make the jump into hyerspeed. ... show more

  • Excellent addition to my video equipment
I am an amateur who records video for my local high school marching band. This role requires me to set up and tear down my equipment very quickly as most performances are fast. I found the Manfrotto MVH500AH tripod system a welcome addition to my gear. I can get the legs extended quickly with the quick-snap holds. The leveling bubble helps me get a level view for the camcorder in a reasonable time. I really appreciate the drag on the pan and tilt. This item definitely improved my video recording ability and removed a lot of the jerkiness from the videos I record. I also found the bag to be higher quality and quite easy to use. I typically leave the quick-remove plate attached to my camcorder (it fits in my camera bag snugly), which allows me to set up quickly as well. I was also surprised because the weight of the tripod is very reasonable for the quality. This isn't the lightest tripod, but I believe it is a fair trade-off between excellent control and stability and weight. I highly recommend it. ... show more

  • The only disappointment was that it's a little heavier than I expected ...
Style: MVK500AM
Well built and the fluid head works flawlessly. Very smooth panning both vertically and horizontally. The only disappointment was that it's a little heavier than I expected it to be. I know......the weight was listed when I bought it, but still, when I actually had it in the carrying bag lifting it, the weight just sees to be heavier than I was expecting. Other than that, it' a great tripod and I wouldn't hesitate recommending it to anyone. ... show more

  • Beat up and falling apart right out of the box
Style: MVK500AM
The product appeared brand new, it was in the box, it was all wrapped up in plastic, had a tag on it. But when I opened it all up, there were marks all over one of the legs like it's taken a little of a beating. Also, that same leg comes completely out of the leg at the bottom. The last piece just simply falls out. It doesn't say it is used, so I am confused. ... show more
