  • Manfrotto never disappoibts
Size: Element Small 56.3" Color: Black
This is compact but very well crafted and sturdy. All of the hinging points are solid and well machined. It comes with a padded bag. Once you unfold the legs, there are metal clips to press to bend them back up for storage, the fit is tight, so you may have to wiggle the leg a little to release the button. Great value for a travel friendly pro tool. ... show more

  • Works well and is well built but heavy
Size: Element Small 56.3" Color: Black
Overall a great tripod. I am using this for a 360 camera that is tiny, so it is overkill, but I needed some of the features this had. I have also shot with DSLR's and many other types too, so it's not like I am comparing apples to oranges. While it's well built, it is still on the heavy side. It does fold up well and compact for travel. ... show more

  • Good compromise between size and stability
Size: Element Small 56.3" Color: Black
Typically, I prefer using a full size, rigid tripod, but for travelling or carrying in a backpack, this should do just fine. The main positive operational feature is that the rotary leg locks are easy to open and lock down. Unlike some much older models of tripods that I have used, it only takes a partial turn to unlock and relock the legs. Since these smaller model tripods, by necessity have five sections (four locking sleeves X three legs = 12 operations to set up/take down!!)..it's good that each of the locks is easy to use and seems to hold well. I use this with a smaller mirrorless camera, so I don't require the "rock solid-super strength" support that I would want with my heavier DSLR/big lens rigs. Another feature that is critical for me is the Arca-Swiss head. Since I have matching plates on ALL of my cameras, I no longer need to fiddle around getting the standard 1/4"x20 screw started and seated. This is a big advantage to this system...not only is it faster, but it's a LOT more secure during use. The ball head also has a rotating base so that you can take panos without resetting the ball head each time you change the image position. There's also a bubble level which can be very helpful when taking photos on uneven terrain. Finally, while I have very little use for anything other than the supplied rubber cushioned leg tips, it's good that a set of spikes are included and can be changed out very quickly. Also included is a set of hex wrenches in the 3 sizes to fit all of the screw heads, nice touch there..! Getting this tripod on sale was the real "deal-breaker" for me... ... show more

  • Unbeatable value
Size: Element Large 64.6" Color: Gray
At $150 the Manfrotto Element is the best value you'll find in travel tripods. If light weight is your priority, than I doubt you'll find a better option under $500 from a reputable tripod manufacturer. It is very comparable to the Mefoto Globetrotter in terms of functionality. And it is nearly identical in specs, with the exception of the Element being much lighter. Pros: - Very lightweight. It's over 1lb lighter than the aluminum Mefoto Globetrotter and several ounces lighter than the carbon fiber Globetrotter. (It's practically identical to those in all other specs). This is accomplished by have smaller diameter tubes, a smaller head and more efficiently designed metal components. - $100 cheaper than the aluminum Globetrotter - $250 cheaper than the carbon fiber Globetrotter - Spring loaded leg angle locks. (Globetrotter's have to be manually pulled out and pushed back in to engage) - 3 leg angle options (Globetrotter has 2) - Ball head is 100 grams lighter than the Globetrotter's Cons: - Basic ball head. The Globetrotter's Q2 is is definitely better in terms of functionality and smooth operation. The Element's head is basically either free or locked, with no friction/tension control. However, if you also buy a good ball head like the Benro IB1, the total price point will be even with the Globetrotter, but the total weight will still be a full pound lighter. And if you compare this setup to the CF Globetrotter, you'll still be about and ounce lighter and $150 richer. - Questionable quality parts in the center sleeve. There are 2 plastic sleeves inside the tripod (that the center column slides through). They are of questionable durability --for those who frequently invert the center column or remove it to extend the monopod height. If you're one of those people, you'll have to be careful when sliding the center column back into the tripod. They are easily removable (hopefully replaceable too). Since it just came out this month (12/16) it's impossible to determine what kind of beating this thing will take. However, I have never had a problem with a Manfrotto tripod before so I can't imagine I'll regret spending only $150 on the lightest weight travel tripod I could find with all the features of the Element. P.S. The listing does not indicate this, but the Element does come with screw-in spiked feet. ... show more

  • Well Built but not what I expected from Manfrotto
Size: Element Small 56.3" Color: Red
This tripod is very good, I will buy another 2. But it's not perfect. I've been sold on the Manfrotto brand since I bought their bulletproof ball joint. I expected the same level of quality in all their products but this tripod failed to deliver. This tripod has threaded plastic parts in at least 1 place (I think more but it's so shiny it might be metal). This should not be a problem as long as you intend to slap a ball joint on the top and leave it there. If you're going to be constantly reconfiguring this tripod you will quickly strip the plastic threads. The ball joint that comes with this tripod is NOT the XPRO Magnesium Ball Head, it is much cheaper variety but it works ok. I will not replace it. The QR is good. The extension tube does not retract, it is either all the way up or it is removed completely. Again, because of the plastic threads you should configure this tripod once then leave it that way. ... show more
