  • Ballhead isnt perfect, but it does a good job. Quick Release plate sucks
Style: Hybrid Head, Black Configuration: Compact Action 61"
Super light and sturdy tripod! Really small footprint, comes in a nice little bag, and extends very high. Perfect for eye level on most people. Can easily be attached to a backpack on a hike or something. The ballhead is hit or miss tho, you have to be really deliberate with the locking wheel to create just enough resistance to get a smooth pan or tilt. Ive found if you tighten the wheel some before you pan, it helps create a better pan. The quick release plate sucks, it jingles around in there UNTIL you connect it to something that has a large enough surface area to hold it to the head of the tripod. Kinda hard to explain but essentially you need to screw the QR button to something that has a large diameter than the screw and the hole it goes into. This will sit it securely on the top of the head of the tripod without any wiggle after you tighten it down. You can buy knockoff Quick Release Buttons for this tripod for like 7 bucks on Ebay which is better than paying 20 for a button with a screw thread on it from Manfrotto. Thats what ill be doing as i can see myself losing the one that came with the tripod or needing more than 1. Good tripod overall, i love how small it is and is great for beginners or people with small cameras like me (GoPros work great) ... show more

  • It's not the amazing deal it seems. It's exactly what it seems.
Style: Hybrid Head, Black Configuration: Compact Action 61"
I, like many other reviewers, was surprised by the cheap and light duty feel of this tripod. It is LIGHT DUTY (rated for like 3 LB cameras or as they say "entry level dslr"?) and it is CHEAP, we all generally expect to pay $200+ for even a modest tripod from Manfrotto. So don't be too disappointed when you get EXACTLY what you payed for. What you may come to realize is not that you are disappointed by the tripod but more surprised that Manfrotto is taking on the entry level, throw-away or "i-phoneographer" market that everyone else has been getting rich from. This is not a smoking hot deal, you haven't stumbled across an undervalued gem. It is what it is, plastic and metal and rivets with what I hope is years of experience in equipment design that won't disappoint for my light duty camera needs. And yes, you can shoot with the head upside down for low to the ground shots. It deserves 5 stars but I take one away because despite it all, I'm a little disappointed anyway... UPDATE after a week of use: I am trying to make this work with 6d+35mm for videos and it is NOT the appropriate tool. Very shaky, impossible to make slight adjustments and overall the WRONG tool. This is the same results as when I tried a $30 tripod from best buy and expecting it to be something it is not. The only difference is when used properly (with a mobile device, not a dslr) it will probably last forever. ... show more

  • Light weight and stable but lacks sturdiness
Style: 3-Way Head, Black Configuration: Compact Advanced 65"
This is the second one I have purchased the first having lost function as one of the clasps on the legs gave out. That is after about 3 years of use. In terms of operation very easy to use and transport

  • Sturdy and Brand Name, but Video Head Fluidity is poor, and lacks basic features.
Style: 3-Way Head, Black Configuration: Compact Advanced 65"
Pros: Manfrotto Name Recognition and Brand Snobbery Sturdy construction Cons: No Hook on Center Post (especially with limited leg angle) No Bubble Level Pan and Tilt movement resistance adjustment is not great Neutral: Bigger and Heavier than expected. Not a tripod you strap to the side of a camera sling for most normal people. "Compact" had me thinking that it would be my primary tripod for travel. In my opinion (which is why this is neutral), this is too big for a Travel. I would not see it as something you carried on your sling around an amusement park with the family. No forward/rearward adjustment on the center of gravity for the position of the camera. However, it seems to be in a pretty good spot for DSLRs with medium to medium-large sized lenses. A Sony Nex with a Pancake lens will be back-heavy. It fits a Samsung NX1 and 70D with most lenses just fine. If you make tripods and you don't put a bubble level on the head, you're just being an *sshole. It's 2015. A Bubble level cost of production is less than a dollar. The only reason they don't is to "differentiate" it from more premium products. The lack of a hook on the center post wouldn't be as big a deal if the legs didn't have limited extension. Head Fluidity. The adjustment is from the twisting of the handle. It's not great. If you want to do a shot that pans and pulls focus at the same time, or tilts and pulls focus at the same time, it's not easy. It'll require several takes to get it just right. The movement is not accelerate and decelerate smoothly with one hand, sometimes even with two hands (but if you use two hands, now you can't pull focus). I shot the same panning which pulling focus shot with this Manfrotto vs a Fluid filled shot and it's noticeable. Can you get away with it? maybe. Would you want this as your primary tripod on a video project for a paying customer? NO. Would it be fine for a family vacation video? Probably. Would it be okay for a B-Cam on a shoot? Maybe. Bottom Line: I get it, this is the supposed "entry-level" tripod. I'm not expecting a fluid filled head at this price from a major name brand. But if you leave off the cheap stuff (bubble level, center hook), then you either didn't think it through well enough, or you are being d*cks about it. Current price of this tripod is $100 as of this writing. For $45-$50 you can get an Off-Brand that has about the same features: Fairly Sturdy, Non-Fluid Filled Head, Somewhat compact. For $100 Off-Brand you can get a Fluid Filled Head with forward/rearward adjustment and Bubble Level and a Hook on the center post. BUT this is a Manfrotto, and if brand recognition matters to you then you should at least know how much you're paying to get it. ... show more
