Description

Makita® 18V LXT® Brushless Cordless Drywall Sander (XLS01ZX1) delivers increased efficiency and mobility for drywall finishers. The compact and lightweight design makes the XLS01 easier to use for extended periods of time. It delivers up to 35 minutes of run time on a single charge of an 18V 5.0Ah battery (sold separately). Users can match the speed to the application with a variable speed control dial (1,000 - 1,800 RPM), and Constant Speed Control automatically provides additional power to the motor to maintain speed under load for consistent performance. The XLS01ZX1 features a round brush design for efficient dust extraction and minimal leakage. The large, highly flexible head is engineered for increased maneuverability across various wall orientations. The direct-drive BL™ Brushless Motor eliminates carbon brushes, enabling the motor to run cooler and more efficiently for longer life. The adjustable extension pipe collapses for sanding in confined spaces, such as closets, and extends up to 16-1/2” for reaching high walls and ceilings. The dust brush is removable for seamless flush-to-corner edge sanding. For improved efficiency, it’s equipped with Auto-Start Wireless System technology (AWS®). AWS utilizes Bluetooth® technology for wireless communication between the tool and dust extractor (sold separately). When the trigger of the AWS- equipped XLS01 is engaged, the AWS-equipped dust extractor powers-up. When the trigger is released, the dust extractor powers-down. AWS is intelligent communication that eliminates cords and excessive noise since the dust extractor runs only when the tool is running. It’s part of Makita’s expanding 18V LXT® system, the world’s largest cordless tool system powered by 18V lithium-ion batteries. Makita® 18V Lithium-Ion Batteries have the fastest charge times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger. For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star Protection Computer Controls™. Star Protection is a communication technology that allows the Star Protection- equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging, and overheating. For increased versatility, the tool can also be powered by Makita® 18V LXT® and Compact Lithium-Ion Batteries with the star symbol on the battery indicating Star Protection.

  • Worth the money
Style: Drywall Sander, Tool Only
Why did you pick this product vs others?: I was hesitant to purchase this at first. I have always used 1/4 sheet hand sander’s attached to a shop vacuum. I purchased a box of replacement bearings and just changed them out. However, I saw one in use and decided to buy the base model as I already have a large assortment of Makita models and a lot of battery’s and multi dock chargers. Once I started using this the first time I was sold. The 9” pads by the box from Makita last a long time and I stay clean. ... show more

  • Excellent tool, makes your work better
Style: Drywall Sander Kit
The weakness of this machine may be its biggest strength. If you are doing production drywall, with a 5 man crew - then get the porter cable or festool. However, if you are doing drywall in a room, even just one wall, or large patch, then this is the bomb. It’s good good balance, exceptional battery life, and the dust collection is good. I have done enough walls with 5” or 6” RO Sanders that I appreciate the 9” pad, but compared to standing 12” to 18” from the wall, the dust with this tool is much better. Even with dust collection standing right in front of a wall with a handheld sander you look like a powdered donut. Another thing I have noticed is that the wider sanding disc, gives you a better job. You want the drywall to be flat and just like you finish with progressively larger knives to flatten the joint compound. In a similar way the larger disk covers a good part of a mudded joint. You don’t dig into the mud as bad. My favorite part about this sander - and I know it sounds stupid, but the bag holds sand paper, batteries, even some extra hose if you need it. I looked at a Dewalt first, because that is my main tool brand, but when I looked I couldn’t believe it didn’t come with a bag. Then I found a bag for another tool brand on Amazon which was not cheap. Somehow when I went back to Amazon description and scrolled down, and saw the makita. I like makita tools, but the batteries really make you stay with one company, and for me that was Dewalt. When I read reviews and looked at all the costs, I bought the makita, bought a couple of extra batteries at a pre Christmas sale and I am good to go. Since then I also got another couple of makita tools, and really like them. Maybe it’s just the newness of the brand, but my unity impressions are quite favorable. This tool is not for everybody, but if you do much work with drywall you should probably take a closer look. ... show more

  • Drywall Sander
Style: Drywall Sander, Tool Only
This sander works well. Kinda heavy. However, I'm 72 years old. Not as strong as I use to be. Easily removes my popcorn ceiling which is what I purchased it for. I purchased the optional belt clip so that the tool is supported by my waist. I think that option is important to buy.

  • Makita drywall sander pros and cons
Style: Drywall Sander Kit
Love it I work for myself and it is a huge upgrade from the Porter-Cable sander that I had did everything they said it would do dust collection is off the chart however it has one minor flow it creates a tremendous amount of static discharge when you're holding on to the green handle( nothing that four wraps of electrical tape couldn't take care of) other than that I would totally recommend it to anybody wanting to upgrade from the Porter Cable ... show more

  • Works great
Style: Drywall Sander, Tool Only
It works as it is suppose to. I would only use it in certain cases where you need some heavy sanding Its too heavy and cumbersome to use all the time. I bought it to work on a library where we repaired a plaster wall had heavy mud to sand. Hooked it to my HEPA vacuum it picked up about 98 percent of the dust. ... show more

  • A little disappointed so far
Style: Drywall Sander Kit
Been on the fence with this for a long time, finally went for it. I used the festool a few years back, and from what I recall it was better than this in every way. The dust collection when paired with the makita vc4210 or whatever it is wasn't terrible. You will definitely still need to put up a barrier in a finished house if you're remodeling, and wear a mask, but it collects quite a bit of it. The performance was pretty good, but very difficult to use on ceilings. By the end if the job I finally realized you just have to push hard. Very tiring and pretty difficult. Had to give many spots a once over with the sanding sponge afterwards. Over sanded a few spots, it's a little difficult to control at certain angles, I remember the festool being easier with no issues first time. I spent a ton of money between this, the dust collector, and the aws transmitter for the vac. I have many makita tools, so this made sense for me, due to the vac compatibility with my other tools and whatnot, but if I didn't have makita i would definitely say splurge a little more and get the festool vac and sander. I'll give an update if my opinion changes after further use ! Update! I have since sold this and took a big loss. It's more work than just hand sanding the drywall. You almost have to use a dust extractor with it, so you have to lug this and a dust extractor around, and factor in that this sander is very strenuous to use also especially on ceilings, and factor in the massive price tag, it's not worth it at all for anything less than 20 sheets of drywall. If you are doing more than that regularly, get the festool. This ain't it. ... show more
