  • Love this jig saw and the CXT line, *almost* perfect tool with a few caveats
Style: Jig Saw, Tool Only
I'm an amateur woodworker and DIY'er. I've recently started getting into the Makita CXT line due to the compact size of the tools and affordability. I own the 3.38 circular saw and impact/driver drill combo as part of the CXT line. I wanted a cordless jigsaw, and something that was a step-up from my 10 year old black and decker walmart jigsaw. I decided to pick up this Makita VJ04Z jigsaw on Amazon. So far, I really love this thing. I've cut up a bunch of common lumber and pine with this thing pretty easily. It cuts fast and clean, and features variable speeds, as well as a front-facing shield and dust port. I like that it has a locking mechanism to prevent accidental use. It's also able to cut at varying angles, as most jigsaws have been able to do. I also seem to get great battery life out of the tool; I highly recommend going with the bigger 4.0Ah battery for this saw, as the smaller ones will go dead fast with this. The smaller batteries are better for the drills. Finally, I have to saw it's a very quiet power tool, I can operate without eat protection for brief periods of time. For the drawbacks; the clear, plastic shield has a tiny dot you can use as your cutting guide/sight. I wish there was something more prominent. Sometimes I find it difficult to cut materials accurate or perfectly on a line with jigsaws because of this. Yes the opening and metal pin also act as a sight, but I wish there was more. The cheap black and decker I used for years had a notch to use to follow a drawn line. Second and the more bigger issue, is the lack of a quick release system. To change blades, you must use an allen key. It's not difficult or overly time consuming, but not as fast as changing blades out with a quick release system. One reviewer mistakenly said this saw does not contain a storage spot for the allen key. It does on the opposite side of where the speed controls are. There is a hole and clip to store the allen key. Overall this is a great jigsaw and I look forward to using it for years to come. I haven't put it to any super heavy duty/serious use yet, but I will update my review accordingly when I do. ... show more

  • Most lightweight Jigsaw on the market!
Style: Jig Saw Kit
This thing is powerful, fast, incredibly lightweight, and holds blades snuggly. I’ve used about every jigsaw there is and this baby takes 1st place. It will use up some battery, but it’s a fair trade considering the weight and compactness.

  • Great jigsaw
Style: Jig Saw Kit
Great 12v Jigsaw overall but certainly not comparable in run time, and power of a 18v tool Pros: Lightweight, easy to handle, good line of site, great speed variability, good orbital and straight cutting modes to select from, good overall build quality, ergonomically responsible, Cons: 12v tools lack the run time for longer cutting. This is no exception however the addition of 4.0 AH battery could solve this problem, the batterys take a long time to charge, all of the adjustment for the table bevel and blade change requre alen wrench (not a big deal) ... show more

  • Great little saw!
Style: Jig Saw, Tool Only
Great little saw. Its light, maneuverable and easy to use. Its got great power too. Some might not like the screw for securing the blade but it's really not bad and in some ways I like it better than some tool free setups that I've used, which can be a bit fiddly and can be irritating to get the blade to lock in. All in all, I love this little saw for doing little cuts when I dont want to get out my big worm drive saw. ... show more

  • Good quality
Style: Jig Saw, Tool Only
Typical Makita, good quality, I like it cause I'm getting old and the 12v stuff is easier for me to handle.

  • Nice saw for light work
Style: Jig Saw, Tool Only
I haven't used this a lot but it did a nice job with some 3/4" pine. It is light-weight and easy to handle. I bought it because it uses the same battery as the drill I bought last year (which is perfect for my needs). The batteries charge pretty quickly on the charger included with the drill.
