  • Powerful, versatile, all-around professional tool
This tool is designed for extended-use grinding or sanding of large surface areas, i.e. wood floors or weatherboards on a house. PROS: With a powerful motor, variable speed setting, and the universal 5/8"-11 spindle found on most other grinders, this tool is suitable for professionals and do-it-yourselfers alike. Pistol grip makes this tool easier to use on vertical applications (i.e. weatherboards) and where use of the majority of the sanding surface, not just the edges, is desired (i.e. floors.) CONS: A little weighty at 4.4 pounds; extended-use on vertical applications can easily tire out the unexpecting. If your project does not require such large surface areas, or you may want something a little less weighty, I would suggest Makita GV5000 3.6 Amp 5-Inch Disc Sander or the newer version Makita GV5010 Vertical Disc 5-Inch Sander. The photo of the 5010 provide by Amazon is incorrect, however. A quick look at Makita's website will show the newer model accurately. Happy Grinding! ... show more

  • Don't hesitate this is a great sander!
Wow, what a sander, made quick work of the horrible job of fine tuning the refinishing of our 14' x 35' wood deck. Used a floor sander to get the initial layer off but needed to get into the nooks and crannies of this 27 year old deck. Attempted to accomplish this with a palm sander but it was taking forever. That's when I decided it was cost effective to purchase a more powerful sander and chose Makita because if it's reputation. It was like night & day and did a wonderful job cleaning it up like new. See photos. First one is after the floor sander & the next two are after the Makita cleaned it up. The final is after it is stained. The sander was worth every penny, should have bought it at the start & I would have saved myself a week of back braking work. ... show more

  • BUY IT !!! ULTRA-SMOOTH, ULTRA-REFINED "MAKITA": AS EXPECTED !!!
This sander blows the Metobo S18SB and everything else away. It's not perfect, but close. A pleasure to use: PROS: (1) "Soft-start", super-smooth, and rather quiet operation are amazing! (2) "Variable-speed" is a must. I don't see how other sanders sell without it; (3) Reeks of quality! (4) Constant RPM/Torque system. (5) Parts readily available should they ever be needed. (7) Highest power (amperage) 7" sander. (8) Highest RPM 7" sander. (9) Light weight !!! Feels much lighter than Metabo S18SB, and with better balance and feel. Makita might have included the cord in the weight? CONS: (1) No case! All Makita power tools once came with nice metal cases. This is both regressive and sad. (2) No shaft lock. Changing discs and pads is a clunky procedure requiring two wrenches. There's no excuse for this. (3) Hard plastic handle is brittle and feels cheap. (4) Hard plastic motor cover badly engineered and "fits" sloppily. (5) Cord is not grounded and a bit light. A ground terminal would help it stay plugged in better. * NOTE: The photos at Amazon and Makita are all confused, few useful specs are presented. It is important to understand that this GV7000C is a high-speed SANDER, and DOES NOT have the two-speed selector button. The PV7001C is a low-speed POLISHER, NOT a sander, and it does have the button. That is, Amazon depicts the GV7000C "WITH" the button, but it does not have one. And, stupidly, Makita shows the PV7001C "WITHOUT" the button, but it DOES have it !!! See my Amazon Metabo S18SB review. ... show more

  • Durability and power
Not many companies still make this size grinder any more but if you are use to it, this is a very versatile tool. I just bought this tool to replace a thirty year old model that though still working, was getting worn. I like it’s light weight and power.

  • Glad I have this sander
This is a great edition to my sander line up. I used it for sanding the inside of my Mako boat hull. The thing is typical Makita Quality; and I love tools that tame a really nasty job., The right tool for the job!

  • Replcement for the Hitachi
A copy of my old sander buffer. Hitachi no longer makes my old one, but the Makita is as close as it gets. Powerful, light and perfectly set up for maximum effectiveness.

  • Bait and Switch
The product description and product photos show the USA model, which is rated for 120v current. The tool I received is the JAPAN model which is rated for only 100v! Over time, the tool WILL burn out! The tool’s labeling and instructions were Japanese, of course.
