Description

The Makita 5" SJSII High Power Angle Grinder (GA5042C) combines power, convenience, comfort and motor-protection features for longer-lasting industrial performance. It is ideal for cutting, grinding ferrous metal, paint and rust removal, shipyard maintenance, metal polishing, general steel grinding, auto repair work, cutting brick and masonry, restoration work and more. The GA5042C is equipped with SJSII, a mechanical gear drive system to help prevent motor and gear damage by dampening the force on the gear when the wheel is forced to stop. SJSII is also features a leaf spring and cam gear drive mechanism that is engineered to reduce vibration for increased operator comfort during extended use. The 12 AMP motor delivers 2,800-11,000 RPM for versatility and maximum productivity. Labyrinth construction protects the motor with a complex set of channels, prohibiting dust and contamination from entering the motor. Additional protection features include a zig-zag epoxy applied to both sides of the armature coil and a powder-coating to the field. This forms a barrier under rotation and is engineered to protect from dust and debris penetration for longer tool life.

    • I didn't know I needed a variable speed grinder until now
Before this product I have have a makita grinder that lasted for almost twenty years. So when it came time to get another one I went back to the same brand... holy smoke, I should have done this years ago: way less vibration faster cutting due, I think, to less power loss due to vibration if you havn't had a variable speed grinder before..... dont think about it just do it. tool less safety guard adjustability the switch is in an odd spot for clamping the tool down but it works I have had carpal tunnel surgery before, so when possible I get the tools that damp or eliminate vibration, some do this better than others. This one, hit that mark, definite recomend. ... show more

Grinder handle missing cap and appears to be different then pictured here. Cord is 16 gauge, rubber casing is very thin and kinks when bent. I don't expect this cord to last very long on a angle grinder. No safety on switch, if plugged in while switch is locked on, grinder will start. Not the kind of quality I would expect from Makita. I have to say after using the grinding wheel that came with this and flap disk that I bought, this Angle Grinder made short work out of removing rust and metal. Wow! ... show more

    • High quality tool - variable speed a must for sanding/polishing
I find the trigger that can be locked on is very useful to allow both hands to hold the grinder for maximum versatility. The variable speed function is essential for some cutting operations and polishing. I used this to polish tiles and granite with great success.

Excellent grinder. Very good multi use tool to have if you have the right blade for the job. From grinding, cutting to polishing tile edges. Awesome variable speed, soft start and the SJS 2 really works. I really like it and use it every day. Angle grinder is only Makita.
