The Makita Rapid Optimum Charger (sold separately) is a smart-charging system that communicates with the battery during the charging process to monitor current, voltage and temperature. i bought these over the generic brands because i wanted a product with no issues. batteries work great and really last - the 2 amp hr are light weight so great for the hand held tools. didn't last so long when used on the dyson vacuum - a little dissapointing

It was dead as a doorknob, but 15mins on the charger and it was at full power. Got these as spares for the brushless sub-compact impact driver/drill driver set. These are half the size and weight of most other Makita 18V LXT batteries (3, 4, 5 & 6 Ah) but perfect for sub-compact tools which I bought for everyday small jobs because of their light weight and handier smaller size. These batteries recharge in 25 min and last for many, many DIY projects. I only recently went cordless and carefully compared Makita, Milwaukee & DeWalt. I chose Makita for their leading edge LI battery technology, generally good to excellent reviews by experts and their growing selection of brushless tools. Brushless tools can maintain constant speed under varying loads and have not brushes to wear & replace. If you are looking for larger capacity, longer lived Makita batteries, consider the newer 5.0 Ah BLMakita BL1830B-2 18V LXT Lithium-Ion 3.0Ah Battery1850B, they are currently less expensive than the 4.0 Ah and 6.0 Ah models. ... show more
