I purchased these after my computer speakers I've had for years died. I actually bought my wife, a musician the same monitors a few years ago and she has been very happy with them, as they were better than what she was originally looking at. I tried them with my setup and felt these would also work well for what I do, mainly video with some audio. In my short time with them, the sound reproduction is much better than what i was used to. I'm definitely picking up more detail in my music when listening through these. Hearing the difference between compressed and lossless audio is obvious through these. The size is good, I actually started with the 5" version, but those were far too large for my setup so I returned them for these. I like the headphone jack on the front w/ volume control, something I could not do with my previous computer speakers. The L/R switch for placement is a nice option to have if you need it. Standby power on with the volume dial is also a nice options compared to what I was used to. When powered on there is a low hiss, but I think I can live with that. It does go away when headphones are plugged in, and eventually mixes in with room HVAC noise. The 1/8" to RCA cable they came with is, well...junk. Lots of hum and crackle with it connected. The slightest bump of the cable or speaker generates lots of unpleasant sound. A quick swap out of a better shielded and quality cable quickly took care of the problem. The Bluetooth is nice, as I can connect my phone or another computer via Bluetooth and monitor the audio that way. As expected, if using the bluetooth with something that has video, there will definitely be lag. One other surprise was that these do not come with pads, unlike the 5" CR-X. Seems like a cheap option than should just come with all of these. The low hiss and the cheap accessories cables are really what keep these from being being a 5 star product. Even at 4 stars I would still definitely recommend these as good audio monitors for the price point.

***Updated Review*** So. I guess im a little more than disappointed. While the below review still (to a point) holds true, there is a fatal flaw in these that shouldnt be ignored. If you run them for any extended period of time they tend to over heat inside of the enclosure. Most people may not have an issue, but for those of you who use the headphone jack, this can be a huge problem. It seems that the headphone jack has a tendency to stay engaged. Meaning that the speakers are muted and sound is going through the jack, even when you unplug the headphones. This is a huge flaw that I feel a name like Mackie shouldnt have. So either NEVER use your headphone jack, or ONLY use your headphone jack. Dont gamble with this much money. I went for the Mackie after watching a few different brands for a while. I had been in a studio that used them before and liked them enough for what theyre meant to be. Pros: Durable, well constructed Powered with Left and Right switching capabilities (if you need to plug it in backwards for whatever reason) Bluetooth (if you got this model), which is super user friendly and provides playback for the bluetooth and coming out of your PC at the same time which is cool for practice or gaming Comes with everything you need, but there is very little speaker wire so be mindful Cons: Does not handle ERG (extended range guitars) super well at high volumes Has a tiny bit of clipping if you have to much bass (at 4in I didnt expect much) Not balanced well between low, mid, and high Highs can get lost and bass can overpower everything easily Overall they will work for what I need, and as long as youre not making dubstep or EDM you shouldnt have a problem with playback and clipping

I absolutely love these speakers. I've been a musician and worked in the audio field for many years, and in my studio, I've got some higher-end speakers. I picked these up just in case I need to do some quick work on my laptop, but needed good sound reference. What a buy. I use the hell out of these things. The best part is that they connect right in with a 3.5mm/8th-inch jack, so no interface needed. Just plug in, or bluetooth in if you want. They are way better than any computer speaker I have ever had. It's like having studio speakers, but that plug-and-play with a normal, everyday setup. So, it didn't stop there. I use them nightly to listen to tunes. The bluetooth is incredible. I can remote in from my ipad and DJ from wherever I want. They are supposed to be dialed in "flat" for mixing, but I really like hearing things in songs I never heard before, as a normal thing. That happens all the time with these Mackies. But, I think they sound REALLY good. I don't hear the "flatness" or whatever people talk about; to me, if they sound good, they sound good. Others who have heard me play music through them think the same. I would say the best feature is they carry, without being loud. I can put them on in the kitchen at a reasonable volume, but still hear them very clearly on the deck with the door open. So, no more walking back inside and being blasted out of the room because you wanted to also be able to hear the music 20 feet away in another area of the house. Pretty impressive. I will eventually equip my desktop computer with these (maybe the smaller ones) and if I build a studio B in my house, these will be the ones for that.

I checked some of the reviews which said there's a hiss on the speakers when they are not actively in use, but I have not gotten that issue. I can only assume that they set it up incorrectly and did not properly terminate their wires in the housing. As for the sound, it's awesome. The bass IS a bit punchy for my taste, but putting sound dampening foam in it is perfect. I only have an issue with bass because of concerns for neighbours and noise. Other than that, the bluetooth is an awesome feature and I've been able to pair them with my phone and computer via a bluetooth dongle just fine. These are excellent, clear speakers.
