Description

When selecting studio reference monitors for mixing and music production, one consideration takes precedence above all others - accuracy. Beginning with the legendary NS-10M, and continuing with the MSP and previous HS series, this new lineup shares a design philosophy that emphasizes sonic purity without any coloring or alternation of the original sound. While many manufacturers seek to enhance the sound of their monitors to make them sound impressive, Yamaha studio monitors are designed to achieve the best possible mix by ensuring that the sound from your speakers is true to the original. Hs series nearfield reference monitors are the embodiment of this philosophy, delivering a concise sound image, high resolution, and flat response.

  • Great quality and value, set up was super simple
Amazing monitors! The sounds is great and I use them for mixing and mastering music in my studio (still setting up). The quality is great. The speakers themselves are heavy and definitely not cheaply made. I payed $395 for them I think, which isn’t bad compared to other brands, but I know they can be as low as $300 during Black Friday and other promotional deals. The speaker function as intended and connection is stable. The are not huge, so you can easily place them where needed. And the sleek design is nice. ... show more

  • Great monitors for audio editing
Bought these to edit audio in indie film. Perfect, they seem to get me the actual sounds that were recorded, instead of distorting with false bass like other "music listening" speakers would impart. Must pair with a Focusrite (or similar) audio interface for best results.

  • Plays nice with guitar
I was looking for monitor speakers that play nice with guitar sounds (not too bassy.) These speakers seemed to be one of the top recommendations among guitarists for the price. Currently I'm running a Vox Tonelab SE into the TRS inputs with instrument cables and a Line6 Flextone 3 via the XLRs. I had an old Atomic FRFR cab, but it decided to go up in smoke the other day. Right out of the box, no EQ, they sound good. Looks like unless you are playing on stage or maybe in rehearsal, no need for any FRFR cab at home or in the studio. ... show more

  • Perfect Monitors for my Modest Home Studio
I got these for a small, living room setup. These replaced a pair of Presonus Eris 4.5s. This was a HUGE difference coming from the ERIS 4.5s. Straight off I noticed more detail and a wider stereo field. I was able to hear things in my last ERIS mixes that I could not before. I’ve had these for several months now and I still very much enjoy tracking, mixing and listening on these. I drove myself nuts reading reviews and going back and forth between these and a couple of other options. I am 100% happy with this decision. For the room and the music I make which is roots, rock, guitar instrumental and some podcasting they are perfect. I’d probably rate these 4.5 stars but since there are no 1/2 stars I went with 5 because I do feel they are better than 4 for sound quality and performance for price. Hope this helps someone. ... show more

  • These speakers are good!
Great speakers. Would highly recommend for mixing accurately.

  • Yup, these are the ones if you mix and master music
These speakers are more neutral than a lot of other studio monitors but they do not have very much bass. Not to say it has no bass or anything, but it is very tame(good enough for hip hop, don't get me wrong). I use it for mixing and mastering, as well as basic casual use like listening to music or watching movies. Amazing build quality, very aesthetically pleasing, sometimes more so than some of the super expensive monitors. One consideration is that it is rear ported, so putting them close to walls is a bad idea, but since it's only the 5" woofer version, it should be fine if you give it at least 6 inches. ... show more

  • These are amazing studio monitors but…
I ordered the 1st “pair” on Prime and they sent me a single speaker. I raised a case immediately to get an actual “pair” (two speakers) sent to me and Amazon told me it would be rush shipped since I have prime and also run a studio and needed these right away because I took down my old small near field speakers. I didn’t receive the correct pair until almost TWO whole weeks later! I called after a week to check on the order when I got a notification that there was an “delivery exception” and Amazon said the pair was damaged in shipping and they needed to send me yet another new pair. Ugh. As far as the speakers are concerned, these are excellent monitors though. I had them several years back and “upgraded” to a much larger and more expensive pair of KRK’s but after a couple of years I realized my mixes weren’t coming together as fast or as easy as when I had the HS5’s. I still have the KRK’s bc I like the bass response but the HS5’s reveal so much detail and clarity in the mids and uppers frequencies and are perfect for getting vocal balances. I highly recommend these speakers to anyone especially at this price point but my purchasing experience this time around was absolutely awful so I took off one star. ... show more
