UPDATE! This review covers both models CR-Buds and CR-Buds+ (I bought them BOTH, and will be ordering a third pair for my daughter)! Clearly other reviewers didn’t read the instructions. ‘Air-tight seal’ and the like, is mentioned no less than five times. This applies for both types... I had popped them in immediately and didn’t have them fit properly, so I see where they were getting no bass. But these are for isolated listening. They’re IEMs so you gotta get them in your ear to monitor. When you do, these are suitable for CRITICAL listening. Get those buds down in there and make the world go away! When they are fit properly, the bass is soul-shaking. Mackie make the most transparent audio gear and you shouldn’t pass up this introduction to what I believe is the best value for the highest quality headphones. Did I mention these are $20 and $40 respectively! I say this as a former (award-winning) audio engineer. Still listen to my Mackie HR824s in my crit/list room. Now my new, near-HR824 quality headphones go with me, put a smile on my wife’s face and will soon be enjoyed by my daughter, too. The clarity and dynamic range is stunning. Whether you are going out for a run, or plugging these into a DAC and getting your face melted, the isolation is perfect. The sound space is wide open and well-defined. I’m hearing the build up of saliva in the sax on Take Five and the tom resonance on the drum kit, i.e., things I haven’t heard in 20 years. And, as I said before, the bass with a proper fitting is soul-shaking. Just remember, if they don’t fit, you didn’t commit! Seriously, the fit is paramount, for amazing performance. And these are so tasty. You are saving because they aren’t trying to sell to the masses, just the chosen few who want the best performance for the money. Truly these perform as well or better than headphones five times the price. Buy these now. Don’t cheat yourself out of finding a brand that you will love. ... show more

As many reviewers have noted, these earphones sound tinny if they're not pushed far into the ear. And it's true that if you push them in far enough, the bass is greatly increased. I took a chance on these buds after seeing so many mixed reviews of other units in the same price range. My use for these is primarily monitors for audio editing. The bass on these is punchy, but is generally weak and teeters off immediately. The highs are bright and clear, but it's hard to fully enjoy them when the lowest frequencies are so diminished. Turning the volume up to get more power in the lows means the highs get a bit harsh. PROs: - Very clear sound, no muddled mids, bright highs CONs: - Hard to get a good seal with the silicone tips, and they're uncomfortable once I get a decent fit. The tips have a seam around where they seal in the ear, which hurts a bit, as do the sharp edges of the casing - Even with the best seal I can get, the bass is a bit weak - Very rubbery cable means more sound transfer than usual from the cord2 OVERALL: I would NOT buy these again. Unfortunately, Amazon won't let me return these. I'm happy with the clarity, but the lack of lows is disappointing, and they're not great for use while running or in a noisy environment, because those highs will get too harsh to be comfortable if you have to turn up the volume. I am by no means an audiophile, so no snobbery here. I simply cannot pretend that these don't hurt my ears with the piercing highs, lack lows, and fit poorly. These earbuds sound fantastic, have plenty of fitting options, are comfortable and are priced great. HOWEVER -if you move or touch the cable in any way, that sound is transferred loudly to the earbuds and is very disrupting and distracting to the point that it makes them nearly unusable. To be clear, it is not a static/crackling noise. It is a physical handling noise caused by, I'm guessing the flat designed cable? I've never had earbuds or headphones with this same problem. Very disappointed in the design flaw and very surprised they made it through the testing phase. Ruins what would otherwise be the best value in earbuds out there. A rare fail from Mackie. The Mackie buds have worked well for me. I assist with back up vocals at church and need them to stay put during song service as we tend to not stand so still. These seem to have a nice balance that allows to keep the buds on my (smaller) ears yet I can pull them out just enough to allow for some noise to help me feel connected with congregation. Way better than any Shure or audio Technica set out there.. clearer soundstage and an overall neutral response.. unless you are a brand whore, give these a try, won't regret it.. the only gripe is the silicon buds, it really needs a softer material for a better fit and bass response.. once you swop it out, the difference will blow any other set out of the water ... show more
