Description

When selecting studio reference monitors for mixing and music production, one consideration takes precedence above all others - accuracy. Beginning with the legendary NS-10M, and continuing with the MSP and previous HS Series, this new lineup shares a design philosophy that emphasizes sonic purity without any coloring or alternation of the original sound. While many manufacturers seek to enhance the sound of their monitors to make them sound impressive, Yamaha studio monitors are designed to achieve the best possible mix by ensuring that the sound from your speakers is true to the original. HS Series nearfield reference monitors are the embodiment of this philosophy, delivering a concise sound image, high resolution, and flat response.

  • Perfect audio balance, these are the monitors to get - Period
Style: Monitor Speaker Size: 8" Color: White Set: Single Unit
Yamaha HS8 The picture you see is running through a pink noise generator, and basically, it's completely flat. My Bose PA F1 and 812 system can't do this, although it's close (Bose loses some high-end frequencies). Finding a set of speakers that give you a flat frequency output is almost impossible. When you run the music through these, they sound so amazing, it's perfect. I honestly have no complaints about these speakers that I'm tempted to buy another pair to use it as the PA system for playing live. Somebody suggested getting the Yamaha 5's which brought me to the Yamaha family, but forget the rest, get the HS8's. You won't regret it. ... show more

  • Simply fabulous EZ audiophile solution.
Style: Monitor Speaker Size: 8" Color: White Set: Single Unit
I have far too much audio gear, including tube this and turntable that, with all the attendant voodoo magic. Honestly, for 98% of humanity, a pair of these 8" Yamaha monitors, teamed with a Bluetooth streaming source—and of course a streaming service like Tidal/Spotify/Apple—is all you will ever need. For streaming, I'm using the Emotiva BTR-1 Virtual Copper™️ Bluetooth System ($80). So the entire system is the monitors, the BTR-1, two RCA cables with TRS adapters, and of course phone, iPad, etc. No CD player, no turntable, no power amp and pre-amp. Nothing more. It just sounds great. Yes, it isn't cheap. At current prices, the Yamahas + the BTR-1 will cost you $1,000. But you are now done. You're in a paradise of music. Today I streamed Monteverdi's "Orfeo," Errol Garner's "Ready, Take One," and the latest from Doja Cat. It all sounds very fine, especially the Monteverdi. The clarity and accuracy and projection of classical music is excellent. I feel bad, because I own many, many thousands of $$$ of super-high-class audio gear. And I CAN tell the difference. But how often are we at that level of "critical listening" ... ? You are all set with this package. btw the word "flat" when describing studio-monitor sound typically means that the response curve is level over the entire frequency range: Low sounds are not boosted, nor are high: All frequencies are created equal. So in theory—and to my ears, in practice—this means reproduced music sounds closer to live music. I live in Manhattan USA, am often in Carnegie Hall and at the Metropolitan Opera. I'd have to say: These Yamaha 8” monitors really do deliver accurate, true-to-life sound. Again: $1,000 for very fine audio is a lot. But you will need nothing more. The entire world, and the entire history, of music is at your fingertips. ... show more

  • Glad I bought them
Style: Monitor Speaker Size: 8" Color: White Set: Single Unit
I was a bit reluctant to buy the 8" HS version because they're not small, but their sound is outstanding. In terms of the size, the height and width are typical for an 8" speaker, but you may want to consider the depth for your studio. Specs say they're 13.1" deep, but that's without any cords connected. With the factory power cord connected, these are all of 14" in depth assuming you kink the cable right after the strain relief. With an XLR, you may want to plan for 15". Unlike the HS8i, HS8 does not have any mount points, so be sure to have a deep shelf or mounting system so the center of balance doesn't go over the edge the first time you play these loudly. The power cord is the typical one you'd find on a PC (IEC-320 C14). You may be able to carve off 1/2" or so by tossing aside the factory power cables and finding a PC cable with a 90° connector, but the 1/4" jack or XLR connector will then have you looking for 90° patch cords, too. ... show more

What else is to be said about the Yamaha HS8 speakers? They’re a staple on the recording industry for a reason. Buy them, you can’t go wrong.

  • SOOOOOO GOOD
Style: Monitor Speaker Size: 8" Color: White Set: Single Unit
JUST THE BEST! I have tried many other speakers and HS8 is in a class all by it's self.

  • No Sub-Woofer required
Style: Monitor Speaker Size: 8" Color: White Set: Single Unit
These HS8 Yamaha powered bi-amped Monitor speakers are full range...yes, down to mid 40Hz and plenty of highs beyond my upper range. Nice room control (feedback/rm. size?) switches and power on/off. The 'Yami' amplifiers put out plenty of power for my small studio. The cabinet and speaker design is of professional quality--made in Japan (and USA) like so many great electronic products. So, no sub woofer required for Yamaha's HS8 studio monitors in my application. ... show more

  • Best speaker option for computers
Style: Monitor Speaker Size: 8" Color: White Set: Single Unit
don't waste your money on anything else. Buy this in the 8" version and you'll have saved endless cycle of buying other crappy speakers trying to find something that is good.

  • Better than soundbars if you care about sound quality and accuracy
Style: Monitor Speaker Size: 8" Color: White Set: Single Unit
These are great monitors for audio engineers, or for audiophiles looking for a more faithful listening experience. Music is already mixed and remastered before being published, so by using popular sound bars you are essentially putting a filter on a filter, and if you care about these things you are butchering a complete piece. These will work great for accuracy and sound editing. I had to buy an adapter to convert the signal in order to connect these to my TV ... show more
