This light went into my living room to replace an old torchiere lamp that was falling apart. What I liked about this lamp is that it had the two additional reading lights which I didn't have. We decided that it would go in the corner by our desk and having the reading light allowed for us to get rid of the small lamp for late night work. The BONUS is that the side lights can be manipulated for your needs. So if you are standing, they point up down or to the side. Many torchiere lamps have fixed reading lights. Functionality, affordability, and flexibility are all 5 stars. I took away a star because the shades are plastic and it's easy to see when you get close. This may be a pro for a parent of a rambunctious toddler to feel safer knowing glass won't be broken. However, we would have preferred the modern design with glass shades. ... show more

My parents recently moved to assisted living and their room tend to be a bit dark despite having a large window. On top of that my 90-year old dad has very limited vision and really needs brightness to see much of anything. At first I purchased 1 and it was a hit! The ability to operate each of the lights separately is a great feature as well as the ability to maneuver the direction of the two side lights. Assembly was very easy (even for me), everything is well packaged and I appreciate that the bulbs were included. It's sturdy and stands well without fear of tipping and doesn't take up much space. The style lends itself to any decor and my dad who is not easily impressed requested I get him two more.
