I bought the blanket hoping that it would help and it has! I bought the 12 pound blanket and it's the perfect weight. Even though it is suggested that I use a much higher weight, I didn't want the blanket to be oppressive, so 12 pounds seemed the right weight. I love that it doesn't feel hot when used for long periods of time and that the beads used are sewn into individual pockets that make up the blanket. Both of my sons love the blanket. We chose 12 lbs and it is definitely heavy, although my 8 year old wants 15 now. He also said it became too hot by the morning, but he is very warm blooded and gets hot easily. My other son said it wasn't too warm and it was just right. Yes, technically it’s a weighted blanket but I wish it was heavier. It doesn’t help me sleep as much as I expected. I had read in a previous review that the beads end up flowing to the edges of the blanket, which I found to be true.
