The Dusk to Dawn sensor turns the nightlight on when the light dims to a certain level, then turns it off again when it gets brighter. These luminara nightlights are magnificent. My sister-in-law got me one for Christmas, and I immediately had to go buy another so I could enjoy them in multiple rooms. The flickering candle effect is very simple, but extremely evocative. It's such a pleasant and cheerful atmospheric addition to my bedroom. And it gives off the perfect amount of light. Just a tiny bit of glow in the room so I don't stub my toe when visiting the bathroom in the middle of the night. The media could not be loaded. I bought this a year ago and love it so much I searched the item in my orders to leave my review! I have it in my upstairs bathroom, near bedrooms. The nightlight gives off a decent amount of light. Enough that I don’t need to turn the light on when using the bathroom at night. Now my husband & sons- they still need to turn the light on for nighttime bathroom trips. The motion detection is detecting light- or lack thereof. This nightlight faithfully turns on whenever the bathroom is dark/dim. I love the candle effect! It really has that candle look and SOUND! A very quiet crackling can be heard when it’s on. It’s relaxing. The light is a yellow orange color- similar to real candle flame. This has been plugged in for a few days shy of one year- and still going strong! Which is great- since it’s not cheap. A handful of times the flame stopped flickering. I just touch the flame and it immediately starts flickering again. When this one dies, I will buy another!! We had an outlet that wasn't going to be doing much of anything, so I thought a cute little nightlight would suit the space nicely. The candle nightlight is really very pretty, fits perfectly and functions well. The flicker motion is nice and smooth; at a distance you might think it's real. It exceeded expectations in that department. Much like a candle though, it doesn't give off a great deal of light. It's more of a decorative item with a touch of illumination than a traditional, practical nightlight. Also, as by design the light censor is on the bottom of the unit, not the side or the front, so it may perceive a space as being darker than it actually is, leaving it active for a longer period of time. Considering it's not that bright it's not a big deal, but it's worthy of note. I do like that it does have a variety of colour base options. A final critique would be that it does seem a little bit pricey for what it is, but it does seem to be the best of its type on the market, so if you're looking for a faux candle nightlight you won't find better than this! If I find more outlets with no purpose, and they're on sale, I'll get more for sure. ... show more

I love these flickering lights so much it was one of the first things I purchased for my new home. We keep them plugged in near the sinks in our bathrooms and it adds just the right welcoming ambiance to the space. They are very handy at night when you don’t want to turn the lights on and need just enough glow to find your way around. One of my cats has taken a liking to sleeping on the bath rug at night and I like to think part of it might be the soothing feeling of this light. I love this night light. I put one in my kitchen and one in my mudroom and they just bring the perfect amount of light. They have a sensor so they automatically turn on and off. The flickering “flame” looks realistic and gives a nice glow to the room.
