I installed this in my barn workshop area to work as a shelf to hold long pieces of wood I’m cutting with my mitre saw. I don’t have one of those spacious wood shop areas as large as a warehouse like all the youtubers. My mitre saw sits beside a beater desk and anytime I have a 6-foot or longer board (the 8-ft and longer boards extend out the door), I didn’t want to have to beg my wife to come help me hold a board. And since the saw table is just a foot above my desk, I didn’t want a permanent shelf right in my face. So, for my purposes, this is perfect. Plus, wanted to be able to pull down a temporary shelf only when I need it, and then put it up and out of the way when I’m working at the desk. But the two shelves above this are nice to have, so I use those as permanent shelves. I placed a thin, lightweight board across the racks to support my various tools and whatevers. One problem, though, is that I can’t fold up the bottom shelf completely with the middle shelf installed (even at the highest option). It shows this in the description photos, so I can’t really ding them for that. As far as the 360 lb rating, they did a little basic physics. TWO shelves can hold 360 pounds (as long as it’s distributed evenly), four shelves 720 pounds, and thus ONE shelf bracket can hold 180 lbs. Personally, I wouldn’t test that. It MIGHT work, but I have my doubts. Still, if it’s used like what’s shown in the pictures, I doubt the shelves will ever fall. And what’s quite impressive are the screws included with this. These are heavy duty and could be the only reason they hold the weight. Usually, I must use my own stronger screws than those shipped with such items, but with these I won’t. And if I’m expecting to put 300+ pounds on a shelf, I usually won’t depend on plastic anchors, but these bad boys are huge and heavy duty. (I’ll keep them for something else and just screw this shelf directly onto a board, but if I didn’t have this choice, I think they’d probably hold.) One more tidbit I like; the little rod that screws into the end of the bracket. I used one shelf for my growing collection of dowels. (I noticed others use it for PVC pipes.) Before, I had them stuffed into a crude box because I couldn’t put them on a shelf as they’d roll off every time I grabbed one. For my purpose, I can see the end of the dowels and easily measure them as I search for the perfect size, then just pull it out. For the record, I removed these “stops” on the lowest temporary mitre saw helper brackets because I didn’t want to have to lift the wood over this every time. Bottom line: This is much easier, much cheaper option if you want 3 strong, instant ready versatile shelves. ... show more

I ordered this specifically for storing 2 heavy duty but shallow steel storage baskets holding camping gear and tools. But I could also use them to support 15" wide shelves. In that case, I'll also use only two brackets, otherwise the space between the shelves would be only 5-6" (much closer than the marketing images imply). It is not as sturdy as claimed. MATERIAL AND CONSTRUCTION - It seems to be lightweight square steel furniture tubing (not pipe). Measuring over the paint, the wall thickness is 0.039" (1 mm), and the side plates are 0.069". Each side plate is tack-welded to the tubing at 4 points (image). 3" lag screws are provided. If you tighten them more than flush they will start to crush the tubing, which I suppose helps to transfer weight to the screw. But if my loaded basket-shelves weigh as much as 40 lbs each, I'll be real careful not to drop them onto the brackets. FEATURES - Attractive and durable-looking paint finish. - Anti-dump pins are handy for long stock. - Folding? - Not really designed for that. The brackets loosen when you fold them up, and you'd need a means to secure them folded. Furthermore, the pins get in the way. ... show more

The lumber rack has a couple of features not found in other racks I have purchased. First, the shelf brackets are hinged and can be folded up out of the way, if the rack is not being used. Second, upright pins can be installed at the end of the shelf brackets to keep material from sliding off. The pins extend above the brackets 1 3/4". Dowels with drilled holes or small diameter pipe (neither supplied) can further extend the pins. Finally, the standards mount flush against a wall due to the hinged shelves. The steel used for the standards and brackets is 20 gauge, the hinges that attach the shelf to the standards is 15 gauge. Both are painted with a hammered finish. The hinges are spot welded to the brackets and attach to the standards with hex head bolts and acorn nuts. All ends have plastic plugs. All necessary hardware is supplied, is heavy duty and includes 2 1/2" anchors and 3" lag screws. An instruction sheet is included, but installation is self-explanatory. I haven't fully loaded them yet. but feel the design and hardware are capable of supporting the advertised weight. ... show more

Very very solid. And the "system" is versatile in that you have a lot of flexibility in how to assemble this (height, width). Just the right weight balance between "solid" lightweight. Any heavier and I might not like it, any lighter and it might be too flimsy - so this part was perfect. More pieces than I would have liked to wrangle during mounting and assembly- but I suppose that comes with the territory. Once mounted and assembled it is stable and solid. Yes this feels very heavy duty and when assembled it holds a lot of weight. The ad says 360 lbs. I had just purchased two 8o lb bags of concrete for a footing. This rack held them easily and I won’t need to even put that much weight on them. I got the set of two and I’m using them to hold lumber left-overs 2 to 4 feet in length. I will point out that probably the most important issue in this unit holding weight is how well it’s secured to the wall. These work great. The included hardware made it quick and easy to set up. They are not super heavy, but they seem like they will hold up. I was able to fit quite a lot of lumber on them, and my wife is now happy to have less clutter.
