Description

The Tibet GTX is built to handle virtually anything a hardcore backpacker or hunter can throw at a boot over hundreds of miles of rugged, off-trail terrain. Handcrafted in Germany, the Tibet GTX features premium nubuck leather uppers, a durably waterproof/breathable GORE-TEX lasted lining plus an injected PU midsole and a full-length stabilizer to provide the long-lasting underfoot support that’s critical when you’re carrying a 50+ lb pack. Add details such as a rugged VIBRAM outsole, a LOWA C-4 tongue that's strategically padded and contoured to wrap the instep in comfort, a special ankle flex design for easy walking, a no-slippage lacing system and a full- length rubber rand to protect against the gnarliest terrain, and it's easy to understand why the Tibet GTX has become the go-to mountain boot for backpackers and hunters alike. For close to 90 years, LOWA boots have been acclaimed by climbers, mountaineers and hikers as the finest outdoor boots in the world. Every LOWA boot is handcrafted in Europe, where they incorporate the elements of thoughtful design, superb materials, clean manufacturing processes and fair labor standards. • what needs to be said about these boots that hasnt been said already?
Size: 14 Wide Color: Sepia/Black
OK where to start with these boots that has not been said already. So many people have done reviews on their backpacking sites and all over the internet. ill share my experience with these guys. for starters the it out of the box was SNUG. I have a 14 W foot and these were just a bit tight on my pinky toes. However, after about 10-15 miles in these boots they are pretty comfortable. I got these boots for hiking the AT....now I am not sure these were the best boots for that because they are HEAVY. these are like the work boots of hiking boots. I will say that i love them for hunting. These are really for off trail or rough terrain. For the day hiker or easy trail user these are OVERKILL to the maximum. Under a heavy hunting pack at elevation these are what you want, no wonder they are the official hunting boot of New Zealand. I would say that these are more geared toward hunting than hiking. But i can see the merits for both. I had planed to use these in South Africa for hiking but now I am considering just using some trail runners due to the weight. I don't want to pack them because they are big and i wouldn't want to travel (fly) in them because of the bulk. The GTX is warm and keeps my feet dry from outside moisture. But my feet tend to sweat a bit in these boots even in cold 20-30f weather. the lacing system is awesome. That mid way up locking cam is awesome. I find that i had to use lacing techniques with older/other boots that would leave the toe box loose and tighten down the mid ankle to the top of the boot to keep my heel in place and lock the boot on my foot. With that locking cam i can keep the toe box to my liking and really wrench down the upper without having to do any silly knots or lacing techniques. the tounge stud is a nice addition too which helps keep it from sliding around and helps me with lacing tightly at the top. the soles are STIFF AF. i have found that on flat ground its almost annoying but once you get off pavement and on the trail (or off trail into the deep woods) this is exactly what you want under foot. Great for ascents and descents, loose shale, sharp rocks, and overall rough terrine ... show more

On my second pair. The first pair still has plenty of miles left though

  • Classic boot, good support, updated design
Size: 11 Wide Color: Sepia/Black
I have more than one pair of these boots and am very happy I found them. They are a backpacking boot, providing more support than a typical hiking boot, which works well for the mixed trail/scrambling I enjoy. Yes they are stiffer and a bit heavier than a typical hiking boot. But, with a good insole and laced correctly, they stay comfortable all day long on difficult terrain and will leave your feet in good enough shape for the next day as well. I will also wear these to the office some days, just laced a bit looser. There does not appear to be a break-in period (which is good because backpacking class boots will break your feet instead of breaking in the boot). The wide sizes are not something you will find available from many other manufacturers. So if you have wide feet, Lowa may be your home for a good boot fit. There have been improvements to the design details over the 4 years I've been wearing this model of boot. Nice to see the manufacturer tweaking the product better. Downsides: I have worn out the sole, and had it replaced, on one pair of these boots that I wore daily for a couple of years. Still have that pair of boots as a backup. Haven't settled on a water resistant treatment I really like. The heels of the soles tend to slide when descending slippery clay (not sure anything else would do better, but this boot allows so much control in every other situation). Bring your own insole if you have high arches. Correct lacing is important. The bottom section, which should be just barely snugged is isolated from the top section. That top section should be kept snug enough to prevent the boot from sliding on your foot, but with slightly looser at the top so you can rotate your foot through your stride. The centering lug on the tongue is used to center and to lift the tongue. So as you lace around it, you should be lifting it. ... show more

  • Killer boot
Size: 11 Color: Sepia/Black
Easily the stiffest boot I’ve worn, great for steep hills so often found in Idaho. These replaced Meindl Perfekts that were fantastic, but Lowa is on a different level.

  • Old Guys Review
Size: 11.5 Wide Color: Sepia/Black
My first hiking/backpacking boots were purchased in 1974. They were Vasque boots that were heavy and always caused blisters. Over the next few years tried several other brands that were all poor quality and fit. In 1999 I tried on a pair of Lowa glove lined boots (Baffin Pro). Unbelievable comfort and quality. Much happiness. Germans know about quality bootware. Never another blister of even hot spot. After 15 years of some backpacking and a lot of day hikes they were really showing their age and it was time to retire them (I will keep them for yard work). The Tibet is of the highest quality. You know when you hold them they are just in a different category. At 57 years of age my feet have widened and I ordered one half size larger than I normally wear (11 to a 11.5) in the extra wide. The first time I tried them on they still felt too narrow. After two day hikes they widened to a perfect fit. These do not feel heavy on your feet. They have a full shank which means you don't feel small rocks and roots on the trail and you won't get a stone bruise. Also, the stiffness of the uppers means your feet and ankles do not articulate around rocks, roots, etc., so your feet are less tired at the end of the day. I made several water crossings during my day hikes and the water proofing and traction are outstanding (north Georgia and eastern Tennessee mountains). In the field your feet are your transportation. Forget about getting the worlds best pack until you have a comfortable high quality boot. Tibet is one you need to consider, you won't be sorry with this choice. ... show more
