Great Hiking Boots!

It took me many purchases and returns to finally find a pair of non-waterproof lined boots that felt comfortable for the long haul. I was getting ready for a trip of over two weeks of going to various State and National Parks with only one pair of footwear to do everything in so they had to be great! And they were! I had no trouble with them whatsoever in the various terrains I used them in (all but snow). They are a great, all-around boot. I wore them day in and day out without a single bit of fatigue nor that "Ahh, finally getting these boots off" at the end of the day feeling. I put them on and didn't think about them again the rest of the trip. I have a slightly wide foot and typically wear 7.5 - 8 sneakers. Since I intended to wear a liner sock with medium wool socks, I went with an 8 to ensure they would be snug without being overly tight. Now that I'm home, I've worn them with just plain white socks and they still feel very comfortable. My toes can move freely and there's no pinching on the sides. The odd dip in the back was concerning but not noticeable when actually wearing the boot. The laces stay tied without doing anything special and my feet felt secure. I was originally looking for higher ankle support but these supported me just fine. I searched for non-waterproof lined boots because I have found waterproofing to make my feet way too hot. I would have loved an air vent right above the toe box as my feet still did get a little warm. The liner sock with wool socks made it so my feet were still comfortable. I deliberately stepped in a muddy puddle a few times until my feet got wet and they dried really quickly. I encountered a woman in my travels with the same boots and she said she sprayed hers with silicone spray. Her feet did not get wet during the very rainy hike we were on, but mine did get slightly damp. Again, they dried very quickly once out of the rain. I hate cold, wet feet but I stayed comfortable! I still would stick with these over waterproofed boots. So I'm very happy I found these boots. They were exactly what I needed - a comfortable boot able to handle various terrains in various weather conditions.

Item as described, fast shipping, good quality, will absolutely buy again - wish I'd purchased these sooner. I absolutely love these shoes. I wore Merrell Moab 2 Mid Waterproof shoes for a couple years prior to getting these. After miles and miles and miles they still gave me blisters & my toes would go numb (I paid a lot of money so was stubborn & wanted to get my use out of them) they were also very hot. This time around I knew I wanted a good pair of mid hiking shoes that were not waterproof! These fit the bill plus they have a wider foot bed and a wide toe box, and great arch support! Hardly any break-in period - very comfortable right out of the box. It took a couple days to get used to the arch support but it feels so great on my feet - I'm set on Keen's arch support for life after this pair. Even though they are not waterproof, which allows for great airflow, they still keep water out pretty well. Walking in heavy dew my socks do not get wet at all. With the forgiving width of these shoes my toes have never gone numb even on long hikes & working on my feet all day long. They clean up well enough to wear out with jeans too. I bought the men's version, in waterproof, for my husband and he loves them as well.

Excellent hiker!

I waited to write my review until I had really tried out these shoes in the real world. They really and truly performed well. I broke them in on a few short hikes and walks, as I knew that I should. Then they got the true test- a twenty mile hiking event in some very muddy, slippery and steep terrain. I was so happy with them! I had no slipping, no blisters and only the usually foot fatigue. I actually have a few foot issues so I was a bit nervous about my feet going in to the event, but I feel that these shoes really did awesome. They were getting a bit heavy by the end, but that’s not surprising. Plenty of room in the toe box and plenty of support and width overall. I definitely recommend these for hiking! Later addition: They also did awesome 45 stories underground in a caving expedition!!!

Tiny mesh inserts a PLUS for bunions - and it's WIDE width - only viewed inside on label

The sizing doesn't say Wide when ordering, nor does it indicate on the box that it's Wide. But inside the shoe on the label, it does indicate Wide. It is quite wide and would not work for narrow feet. For me the fit is perfect (bunions push me to wide width). Also there are tiny mesh inserts on sides, right where bunion is, so it is extra comfortable. It is a bit wider than the Voyageur low top version, which I also purchased. The heel is narrow enough to hug my narrow heel. There is a neat technology - wrapped around the back heel of the shoe, a ribbon band attached to the heel and connected to the shoelace loop, it tightens the shoe as needed with a pull of the laces before tying. It is visible in picture attached. Insert is removable and has decent arch support. There is room to add additional arch wedge. Very pleased and I would definitely buy again. Size 7-1/2

Excellent Hiking Shoes!

I bought these as a substitute for the high-cost hiking shoes recommended to me after I had broken my ankle and badly sprained my MCL all within a few months. I have been wearing these shoes for long walks and moderately-long hikes, on a variety of terrain, and -- so far -- I am super-pleased with them! They are very comfortable once you break them in (a couple weeks for me), they remain quite water-proof when traversing woodland with occasional rills and other wet areas, and I have found them to offer better traction than I dared hope for the price. I have worn them hiking up and down ravines, through muddy woodland areas, on hard-packed road with widely-scattered loose rocks, and even on a small area of loose sand -- so far, they have performed beautifully in keeping my feet, ankles, and knees stable and making me feel secure when I walk. They really do seem very well made. and to deliver on what they promise. The only reason I haven't given them five stars is that I have only used them a few months and there are some terrains I haven't yet attempted. I may later update this review to five stars if these shoes continue to please me as much as they have so far!

These boots feel like I never want to take them off. I wore them into work to “break them in” and my coworker excitedly assured me I would not not need to break these boots in and that I’d just made one of the best investments of my life.....That she had hiked all over the country in hers and had them for numerous years and couldn’t say enough about them. The quality is superb, far better than pictures described. I’d buy these boots a hundred times over and wish I’d bought them sooner. They come up just right on my ankle for perfect support on every step and I have plenty of room to move my toes with wool socks on. True to size. I normally wear an 8, ordered an 8 and they fit perfect! I will Re-review after an actual hike in them but can’t imagine being disappointed. I feel like I could skip over the cars in the parking lot here at work. Very light weight boots also, not heavy and clunky.

Awesome boot, very versatile
I normally wear a 9 and bought thes same boots in a 9 a few years ago. I don't know if my feet are getting bigger or what, but my toes can touch the front whereas they don't in my old pair. Maybe they need to break in some more. Awesome boot, very versatile... I use them for hiking and also 50 mile endurance rides (horse). It's nice knowing I can hike out over any terrain if my horse has an issue. My last pair lasted at least three years, many hikes and hundreds of miles of horseback riding. The only thing that went is the back top where I slide my heel in. Once that wears out there are hard plastic pieces that rub my Achilles so I can only use them for short jaunts now. Too bad since everything else is still in good shape. I'll use a shoe horn or put my hand in when putting my new ones on and hopefully avoid that this time. These solved the issue of numbness in my feet after riding... Very cushy and the thick soles and support are great for hiking rocky trails. Lots of toe room. Not much heel so may need stirrup cages if using large stirrups.

I loved these boots from the start - extremely comfortable without needing to break them in. I have had them for about 4 months now and all was well until today when I noticed that the stitching was coming undone on the ankle. It is fraying and pulling apart badly on the right boot and is looks like it is just starting to pull apart on the left one. I don't feel like the boots should be coming apart at the seams already. Other than the stitches ripping in the back they appear to be holding up well with normal wear and tear. I loved everything about these hiking boots until they started falling apart after only 4 months - so I am giving 3 stars. *UPDATE* It has been about 6 months since my initial review. I am still unhappy that these boots began to come apart so quickly - however I want to add that even with wearing these boots almost everyday, the fraying at the back of the ankle does not appear to have gotten worse. I can't see any other signs of damage to the boot other than normal wear and tear. Time will tell if they continue to hold up.
