This does what it needs to do for me and that is making it possible to reach my ceiling fan that is 14 feet up from my living room floor. It did arrive damaged having been delivered by a bobtail truck. Because of the solid construction I decided that the damage would not affect the structural integrity of the ladder and I can bend the aluminum cross piece back to some semblance of normal. Other damage was mostly cosmetic. If I bothered to return it there is no guarantee I would get the next one in any better shape. The one thing I was disappointed in (and I should have noticed this when I bought it) is the fact that it does not have a shelf up near the top. The only spot you have to set anything on is the very top and it is only designed for a couple of tools. When I am cleaning my ceiling fan with my canister vacuum, it would be nice to have a place to set it while I work. I've already dropped the vacuum once from atop the ladder but was able to arrest its descent enough to avoid damage by holding onto the hose. It is not as lightweight as I had anticipated but still manageable for an older person like me.
