  • Loon Outdoors Ergo Bobbin - Yellow

Description

An ergonomic bobbin that gives tyers complete control over thread tension. An ergonomic and high-performing update to the indispensible tying tool. The powder coated ergonomic handle rests perfectly between the thumb and fingers, while the spring steel spool holder allows for easy adjustment in tension by changing the pressure applied by grip. The tube is designed with versatility in mind: the high gauge works well when tying small flies, and the tube is long enough to tackle large patterns as well. Just load thread and make magic at the vise!

  • Very comfortable
I have used the cheapo bobbins for years and decided to try this one. Glad I did. I like it almost as much as my Rite Bobbin. It is very comfortable to hold, easy to adjust tension, and feels very strong especially when tugging on deer hair wraps. I like it so much I bought a second one. Great product! ... show more

  • Great value for the price
I personally love it. It fits the spools that I use just right. It's not too loose and it's not too tight. I have zero issues with it and I plan on using it instead of having to wrap the thread completely by hand.

  • it's a little loose with the small spools of thread !
feels good in my hand but the thread becomes loose on the smaller spools !

  • Nice and comfortable
Nice and comfortable. Pretty good build quality but mainly good for streamers. You could get away with using it for smaller flies but isn't ideal.

  • Sucks
It really bulky and does not hold the spool tight. Don't waste the money

  • Some bending required. Then bend some more.
The Loon Ergo bobbin looks good out of the bag it comes in. It feels good in the hand and it's solid. All good things. But then when you go to tie with it in stock form it doesn't hold the bobbin tight and in my case started to unspool. I was reluctant to bend the legs on it go get more tension because I have never had to do that to any of the other bobbins I have so I put 2 rubber bands on it and got to tying. Then I contacted loon and they said I would recommend squeezing the spool fett together to gain tension and then dial from there. followed by... The squeeze needs to be nearly comical. Also, the spool should not be in there while squeezing it. The new feet hold much better than the old ones and don't squeak either. I ended up having to hold it with pliers and bend each leg by itself till there's about a centimeter between them. I don't feel I should have had to do any work for such a simple tool and many others I talked to suggested cheap $6-10 ones work just as well without having to fiddle with them. I have at least 6 of those but they don't feel as good in the hand as this one. Just wish you didn't have to modify it from the start. ... show more

  • nothing special and not worth $20
I have a variety of bobbins on my tying desk, from basic cheapos via Sportsman's Warehouse, Cabelas and the like up through the premium tension adjustable Rite bobbins (both short and standard). I bought two different sizes of this model of Loon bobbins, the black and the yellow models. They were extremely disappointing and are overpriced for what they are. Adjusting thread tension on it is virtually impossible. They are by no means better than your basic standard inexpensive ones as previously mentioned. In hindsight, I know I simply paid for a brand-name with a fat grip, which doesn't really do anything that results in improved tying. I wouldn't buy these again, nor would I recommend them. Really just overpriced hype that takes advantage of gearheads. ... show more

  • but it feels great in my hand
I have not used it vet, but it feels great in my hand. I should be able to use for extended periods of time without my hand going numb.
