We just received these, and have been trying them out. A large part of why I ordered them was the claim the range was for 3km/1.86 miles. My son finds them easy to figure out, and as long as he doesn't talk to closely, the sound is great. The loud sound when you turn it on/off is annoying, and so far, we can't figure out how to make it quieter. They are very lightweight & cone with a cord that can be attached (not a breakaway cord though, so be cautious). The other disappointment was that the range is far less than claimed. We tested the range, with my husband at home with one device, and my son & I started trying to communicate a mile away. My husband couldn't hear us until we got 2 blocks from home, far short of the 3km/1.86 mile claim. That is still great for when my son goes around the neighborhood, but not camping and other reasons we got them, so I'm disappointed. I'm not sure if the range was affected because we live up a hill, and drove uphill trying it, but if it needs flat land to get the range, that's not possible in most situations we'd use it, especially on the west coast. Also remember that each device takes 4 AAA batteries, so you'll need 12 to work all 3 walkie talkies.

My kids absolutely love these Walkie Talkies! They’re a huge hit for both indoor and outdoor play. Our kids and their cousins love these. Walkie talkie's are the ultimate kid gift. They could play on these things all day - be careful, you might get dragged in to the fun. The colors are great and the camo is fun. The sounds quality is good and very loud. Our 11 yo also uses it to communicate with us when she goes down the street to the neighbors. I think the distance on these things is stated at around 1 mile, but we haven't experimented with that yet. There are options to change the call tones which the kids love. Sometimes it is tricky to get all the talkies on the same channel, as you seem to have to press the button to "stop" at the right time while it flips through the channels. In other words, you can't just press up and down to get to a channel (unless there is an easier way to do this - please let me know!) Batteries seem to die kind of quickly. Maybe that is because we use rechargeables. Also, the batteries seem a bit crowded...sometimes when you put the last one in, it causes another to pop out. So that can take a bit of maneuvering.
