  • A good quality basic laser engraver
Size: 10W
The Longer Ray5 10W laser engraver was quite easy to put together ~ at least I think so ~ I have put together a CNC kit some years ago that was way more complicated to assemble ~ but really the Ray5 was a piece of cake. Well thought out design and construction. It is a fairly basic machine but I have added several upgrades to it before I get to some serious engraving ~ drag chain to manage the wiring (it's not a big issue with the basic model ~ as the wiring behaves well enough when the machine is in motion ~ but I do recommend drag chains... it's just more tight and elegant wiring management. I ordered the air assist nozzle from Longer3D ~ I had a small airbrush air compressor so I used that for the air assist ~ it works just fine and it really does make a difference towards preventing burn marks on wood. I did several other enhancements ~ like a crosshair laser and so on... YouTube has plenty of great reviews and tips for Longer Ray5 5W and 10W ~ very positive reviews by some pro makers and ever-so-useful tips and how tos. Don't get too excited about the mention of WiFi ~ you won't be able to do streaming control of this machine through WiFi ~ that's kind of annoying ~ I'm fine using the SD card ~ but I like bells and whistles that actually work so I researched for a best way to run the machine via USB ~ either for sending files or for actually and dependably streaming ~ I am still testing the streaming ~ I am using LightBurn on a MacBook and so far ~ for a few simple test burns ~ I can stream quite dependably ~ Still it's probably smarter to do serious work directly from the SD card. I am streaming ... by the way... over 25 feet of ethernet cable ... what am I using for that you ask? check this out... OREI USB Over Cat5e/6 Extender ~ https://a.co/d/goKnlrC ~ this clever little kit gives you ~ in my experience so far ~ a dependable and fast enough transmission over USB (Ethernet) ~ I also have a small USB camera set up on the Ray5 ~ Bells and Whistles!! and am running both signals ~ sending control GRBL with LightBurn and returning a live video feed to my MacBook with no issues. (extra Tip! It seems to me that I got better and consistant signal to the Ray5 via OREI USB Extender when I turned on DTR in the machine settings ~ look it up on how to set that in LightBurn. What about the most important part? The engraving? The Cutting? I find myself ~ so far ~ and I am still just breaking this machine in ~ early testing on a number of materials ~ I have to agree with what some of the best YouTube reviewers are saying about this machine ~ it says 10W ~ and it is 10W ~ but the clever way Longer3D seems to have designed their laser module ~ makes it even more powerful and quite precise for a 10W laser. I have easily engraved (and quite deeply) and cut 1/2" Poplar (my favorite wood so far for engraving) ~ Poplar is not a soft wood ~ I would call it a semi-hard wood actually and the Longer Ray5 10W handles it just fine. ... show more

  • Worth the money
Size: 5W
Just started using the product but wanted to provide some feedbacks for whoever’s interested. The device came in well-protected and included everything needed for installation. It took me less than an hour to put it up with the instruction provided. It’s pretty straight forward and not hard at all. The challenging part is software installation and since I’m using a MacBook I need to have separate driver installed in order to make successful connection to the laser machine. Then I did spend some time learning how to use the software but believe me you can’t skip this no matter what laser engraver you’re getting. The machine worked well on wood and leather that I’ve tested, I’m still testing more materials and designs - the testing feature really helped me to save time and cost but get to know the result fast. Overall, it’s worth the money that I’ve spent. Happy with it now but looking to upgrade in the future if needed. ... show more

  • I Wouldn’t Buy Again!!! So Many Problems after only TWO Months!
Size: 20W
At first , this laser rocked, at least in comparison to my Atomstack 5 I had upgraded from. Now fast forward 2 months later, yes that’s right, an entire two months!!! The air assist elbow snapped off while in use, the laser suddenly wouldn’t complete even the smallest job without suddenly stopping with no errors. Then the cooling fan on top of the laser suddenly locked up. And let’s not forget about the laser completely shutting off with no errors at random and what seemed like a 20w laser at first turned out to be more of a 5 watt laser after 2 months. Complete junk, and I’m utterly disappointed to say the least! Never again! Update: emailed support on their website and the rep wanted me to send a video so he could verify the noisy fan that locked up from lack of lubricant and the random. Reboot. I explained smoke came from the laser. Not impressed, again… ... show more

  • Impressed by this laser engraver
Size: 5W
The media could not be loaded. I'm quite impressed by this laser engraver by Longer. It does require assembly, and they went above and beyond with their packaging. To make assembly easier, each ziploc bag was labeled with which step it would be used in, making it was very clear where I could just have the parts I needed for each step and not have everything laying around. They also provide a USB with software to control the engraver. One is open-source (free) and another is a free-trial. I tried the free software and it took some figuring out, but that's not a reflection on the engraver itself. When I first tried engraving the phrase "Merry Christmas," I had power on 100% and it cut through the sample wood that they provide, which I realized a little late. I initially had it cut 3 lines every 1mm, so you can see that the laser seems very accurate in that it even left a hair's width of wood where it burned through. Once I figured out how to lower the power in the software--about half-way through the bottom word, i.e. "Christmas"--it engraved the rest beautifully! Longer includes goggles to protect your eyes and sample wood to test it out, and literally everything to get you started safely. Overall, I'm very impressed with how sturdy it feels after assembly, and the quality of the laser engraver! ... show more

  • Good if you are new
Size: 10W
This is great if you are starting out. We found out the laptop had to be close to the laser printer, it is really fun to work with this laser printer. Great customer service, plan to buy a more advanced model from the same seller!

  • Stopped working second time using it
Size: 20W
This laser works great and was easy to assemble. After watching a couple of YouTube videos on how to set it up and use the software I was engraving on both wood and slate. The lightburn software is well worth the $60.00 that it cost. You get a free 30 day trial with it. The laserGBRL software works ok but it's not as fast doesn't seem to have all the capabilities of the lightburn software. But it is totally free. I would definitely recommend this laser to anyone looking to buy one. ... show more
