  • Refurb unit is great out of the box.
Just got this in the mail and spent about 3 hours playing DCS World. I'll address the small issues first. The stick I received has a slight bias to the right (both pitch and roll). In the software axis editing screen this is noticeable, but in game I can't even tell. Second small issue: The throttle's top rotary can have a slight judder when set to the "center" position. Last small issue: The stick/base has some clicking and clacking sounds sometimes, moreso when using multiple axes during quick maneuver. The unit as shipped seems to have less lubrication on the gyro ball joint than what I've seen in reviews, perhaps this is a contributor. If I feel adventurous I'll take the base apart and put some lubricant on. If I feel really adventurous I'll take some time to analyze where, when and why the "stiction" happens and do some mild sanding and adjustments to make it right. Now for the good: With no deadzone set I can fly smooth and beautiful, no issues with drift or trim. I put a SU-27 on a 160km return to base course, leveled the trim, set her to center, and walked away for 5 minutes. Came back and the plane was flying on course with the only drift being from the slight changes in aerodynamics. The slight right bias in the stick seems to have no effect with real flying, which is wonderful. While annoying -when- it happens (it's my view zoom axis in DCS), the rotary judder is both rare and easily amended by being just a little careful when using the dial. No other rotary on the throttle has this "mid point flicking" Finally, I just don't understand all the negative reviews for this controller. It seems to be people overreacting and nitpicking very small things. The X56 almost has more buttons than I really need in most situations, the stick is responsive, the throttle itself is phenomenal. Everyone who complains about the throttle being too tight on the lowest resistance are wrong. It's amazing to "tap" the throttles and control <1% RPM changes. I had no issues at all powering this from my motherboard's USB2.0 plugs, no ghosting, no dropouts. I almost have to assume people are trying to use this with a cheap laptop or some old prebuilt computer with low quality hardware. All in all I couldn't ask for more at the price point, especially since this review is for a refurb unit. Time will tell if the controller holds out and I will update this review if anything happens. ... show more

  • Great HOTAS for DCS World
I bought this HOTAS for DCS World only. So my review is with that in mind - no other games. The stick handles well. I put the lightest spring in so that I have the easiest, least restrictive movement. It works wonderfully, and I have no jumping around. I set up a dead zone in game of only 3. The throttle is SMOOTH, yet a bit stiff for me, even at the loosest setting. So I opened it up, cleaned off the existing grease and used silicone grease to ease up the movement. Now it's very smooth and light, as it should be if ya have to work the throttle for A2A refueling, carrier landings, or AOA at speed landings. I would have rather the set up came with an easier throttle for the money spent - which is why I gave it only 4 stars. The buttons all work fine, map fine in game. The switches and guards are metal - nice touch. To be honest, the software is crap - only good for the LED color setting, because I have yet to be able to map the rotating knobs (axix) and use effectively in DCS. Would be nice for radar adjustments or volume controls. The pinky switch on the stick is very durable. All in all, this is a very good HOTAS for a flight sim such as DCS World. I have all buttons mapped in game; not via the accompanying software. Yes, I would recommend it to a friend or purchase again. ... show more

  • Ghost buttons and BAD stick drift
Arrived dusty and in a pretty battered box. There were no instructions on how to use it (software for it, setting it up, etc) not only that but in the top back of it was a spot where paint was scraped off and dented. When I went to try and fly it, there was awful stick drift to the point where I could not control my plane. Some switches and buttons were also very unreliable and sometimes would just not work. When I tried getting customer support from Amazon the number did not work. Not sure if that was Amazon or the seller’s fault. Don’t buy just spend the extra 30 bucks on a new one ... show more

  • Wasn't clear that I was buying a USED item
I only used these for one day. I had no idea how big these things are. They are tall, wide, and long. They take up a lot of real estate on the desk. And with the bases being so tall, it put's the controllers at an uncomfortable position. IMO, it's like you need to build the desk and chair around the controllers. I play Star Citizen and bought these for that game only. I can't say if they are good or not as I didn't get past the key binding. After buying these, I didn't know that SC will change the key bindings when pushing out updates. This last update, it appears that they forgot to put the "invert throttle"in the settings. To use the throttle, you have to pull back to go. This is opposite of how it should be. I also couldn't get some of the wheels or hats to work with some of the key bindings that I thought they should be able to be used for. This is really more an issue with SC and not the controllers. SC stats they support this x56, but seems that support is not 100%. So between the issue of size, lack of support for SC (which the add I used states its good for), AND the fact that this set up was used and I was not aware I was buying used. I returned the product. To the seller, you 888 number on your return label does not work. When I called it to see where we were at in the return process, I got a recording saying "this numb is not in use." I called Amazon and they confirmed it was accepted and a full refund should post in 3-5 days. Over all, not too bad, but not good enough to justify the money spent. ... show more

  • Awesome product! Tough for beginners
I am a noob when it comes to flight simulator and combat games. I bought elite dangerous and ace combat 7, and have been learning to use it. So far, it's easy to use. There are way too many buttons and functions, which is great. I'm holding off for the new microsoft flight simulator before I dive in to realistic flight sims. So far, I'm loving this product. ... show more
