I've gone through a few knife sets over the years and I feel this is one of the better sets I've used. WHAT YOU GET This 17-piece set comes with 6 x 4 1/2" serrated steak knives, kitchen scissors, and 6 other knives: 3 x 8" (chef, slicing, and bread), Santoku (7"), 5" utility, and 3 1/2" paring. Also included is a heavy wood knife block with a built-in sharpener. The entire set weighs almost 9 1/4 lbs. QUALITY OF THE SET My initial impression, right out of the box, is that this is a heavy-duty, high-quality set. Each of the knives looks and feels like they are thoughtfully and precision designed. The three rivets connecting the grips to each side of the tang are extremely smooth. The spine of the knives are a little thicker than other knife sets I've owned and that, combined with the butt of each knife being all steel adds to the overall sturdiness of the blade and the handle. The bolsters on the knives are angled well and provide additional protection in keeping gripping fingers from sliding into the blade. The stainless steel blades are firm and stated to be made of German 1.4116 steel which is highly corrosion resistant, easy to sharpen and maintains a durable edge. The bread knife is hands-down the best bread knife I've ever used. Whether serrated or not, the blades on all the knives in the set are sharp, rigid and cut very well. While scissors are a token addition to knife set these days, the scissors in this set are on-par with the knifes in terms of heavy-duty construction and quality. The finger loops are roomier than most and the rubberized cover on the loops make them easier to hold. Again, the blade steel is solid and add a degree of heft that makes them excellent for cutting meat and anything else with ease. The knife block is the only issue I had with this set. On the surface, it is well-built and heavy. With rubber feet on the bottom corners and the weight of the wood, it stays put ... no sliding or tipping. My issue is that one of the larger knife slots (designed to hold the Santoku or chef knife was cut improperly halfway down the block and I had to work at "hacking" through the blockage to accommodate the knife. With that being said, the built-in sharpener on the back, side-corner is convenient. Overall, I feel this is an excellent, high-quality knife set that should last many, many years. Well worth the investment.
