Description

A New York Times Bestseller A Good Morning America Book Club Pick "A world- class whodunit." ―Stephen King “An extremely successful high-wire act, balancing between dark comedy and darker thrills.” ―Alex Michaelides, 1 New York Times bestselling author “Laugh-out-loud funny, thrilling and twisty...” ―Liane Moriarty, 1 New York Times bestselling author What if you thought you murdered your best friend? And if everyone else thought so too? And what if the truth doesn't matter? After Lucy is found wandering the streets, covered in her best friend Savvy’s blood, everyone thinks she is a murderer. Lucy and Savvy were the golden girls of their small Texas town: pretty, smart, and enviable. Lucy married a dream guy with a big ring and an even bigger new home. Savvy was the social butterfly loved by all, and if you believe the rumors, especially popular with the men in town. It’s been years since that horrible night, a night Lucy can’t remember anything about, and she has since moved to LA and started a new life. But now the phenomenally huge hit true crime podcast "Listen for the Lie," and its too-good looking host Ben Owens, have decided to investigate Savvy’s murder for the show’s second season. Lucy is forced to return to the place she vowed never to set foot in again to solve her friend’s murder, even if she is the one that did it. The truth is out there, if we just listen. Read more

  • twist turns, keeps you reading!
This was an amazing read. I was on pin cushions trying to figure out the truth t Up to the end. It was so entertaining and the main character was complicated, messy, heartbroken, sassy, sarcastic…….everything you don’t realize you want in the heroine. The friendship in this book is in true Thelma and Louise spirit and showed the complex small town life and ridiculously crazy family intricacies. ... show more

  • Good choice!
Enjoyable, well written, believable dialogue. The mystery captivated me to a certain point. I wasn't on the edge of my seat most of the time, but that was ok. I really liked the audiobook - both the narrator and the format (switching between book chapters and podcast episodes). One review I read mentioned that the reviewer found the intro/outro music to the podcasts irksome, it was the opposite for me. Felt like a real podcast. (It was no Serial, but what is? 😉) Overall happy I used my Audible credit on this 👍🏻 ... show more

  • Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera 4/5 ⭐️
Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera 4/5 ⭐️ Lucy Chase may have forgotten Plumpton but Plumpton has not forgotten her. It is hard to ignore the girl who supposedly murdered her best friend but does not remember anything. Savvy Harper was the town’s sweetheart and a charmer, especially with the men. Lucy and Savvy were inseparable so everyone was shocked when Lucy was found roaming the streets covered in Savvy’s blood. Five years have passed since that horrible night and Lucy has moved on to start fresh in LA. When a family event brings Lucy home, she is forced to face the past. Not only does she have to answer to the town, but Ben Owens, a famous true-crime podcaster shows up and has questions for Lucy. Lucy has never spoken to anyone or given an interview until now. She decides to help Ben with his podcast “Listen for the Lie” and solve Savvy’s murder once and for all. Even if this means she could be the one who did it. Listen for the Lie was a fast-paced, twisty mystery that I could not put down. The writing format alternated among real-time, flashbacks and Ben’s podcasts. The best part of this compelling thriller was its dark humor. Also, Lucy is a phenomenal character with her sass and sense of humor. She is a hot mess but her quick wit and sarcasm make her very likable. I have a few complaints about this book. The first one is the amnesia trope is overdone! And the second one is Lucy’s family is appalling; everyone except her grandmother. Lastly, I have so many questions about the ending. Lucy makes a very vague statement that leaves me bewildered. I like mysteries wrapped up neatly with a bow. ... show more

  • 3.5 stars
I didn’t dislike this book but I didn’t love it either. It gave off A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder vibes and made me feel as though the target audience was YA even though the themes were squarely in the adult realm (trigger warnings: domestic abuse, domestic violence, self-harm, rape). The story is told from Lucy’s POV and there were times, as a reader, I wanted to shake her to snap her out of this doom spiral and cycle of self-deprecation. The mystery itself was not difficult to unwind although it does stretch out through the entirety of the book. There are some loops that just don’t close once you have the whole story. Unreliable narrator? Maybe. It comes across to me as intentional misdirection. ... show more

  • good read
Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera was a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read for me. We follow Lucy who is believed to have killed her best friend. She was found walking in the streets covered in Savanah’s blood. She was not charged bc there was not enough evidence. She leaves her small town in Texas and relocates to California. However, 5 years later and true crime podcaster tried to solve her case on air… reopening her case and putting her back in the public’s eye. This is a funny thriller novel. I don’t read a lot in this genre so the amnesia trope did not bother me. I found that the story well written. It’s a who did it kinda vibe… overall it’s a fun read! #listenforthelieamytintera #amytinterabook #bookreviews #bookstagram #bookworm #booklover #booknerd #needbookrecommendations ... show more

  • A total page turner!
This is the third podcast themed mystery I have read and it was BY FAR the best one. A million times better than “All The Dangerous Things” & “None Of This Is True”. With that said, if you happened to like those titles you will absolutely love Listen For The Lie. Our MC Lucy, is accused of murdering her best friend but she has no memory of the night of the murder as she herself had significant head injuries. After podcaster, Ben, picks the cold case for his podcast, Lucy is forced to return home and begins to put the pieces together. Lucy has such a sarcastic, no nonsense personality and because of that I instantly liked her even though the whole town hates her. It was exciting, gripping and a total page turner. Loved it! ... show more
