Really complete Sherlock Holmes
Format: Hardcover
I was looking for a complete Sherlock Holmes, with all the short stories and the four novels in one volume. I also wanted the original Signey Paget illustrations. This book has them both and it is an excellent value. The quality of the images is quite good and the page thickness is not so bad that the book ends up being a foot thick. Overall an excellent book. ... show more

Who does not love Sherlock?
Format: Hardcover
In all the world only, the Bible outsells Sherlock Holmes. In 1893, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote "The Adventure of the Final Problem" leaving Holmes presumed dead. There was an international outcry for our hero to be brought back to life. In 1903, the public demand convinced Sir Arthur to revive Sherlock starting with "In the Adventure of the Empty House" It was wonderful to learn he only pretended to be dead to avoid his enemies. ... show more

Large Book, Beautifully Simple Cover
Format: Hardcover
This truly does have every Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Sherlock Holmes tale and as such is a large book with a slightly smaller font size, but I didn't have any trouble reading it. So far it has been very enjoyable, and the gold writing with the pipe on the front looks very nice.

Quality binding and nice cover
Format: Hardcover
Bought as gift. Not given yet. The cover and binding is gift worthy. Content should obviously be good but we'll see at Christmas. Came wrapped in plastic and a box. Was worried book would get wet in rain but it was well protected.

Best if taken a little at a time
Format: Hardcover
"Complete Sherlock Holmes" contains all the Sherlock Holmes stories. I enjoyed Sherlock Holmes as a teenager and as a young adult and still dip into a Holmes mystery once in a while. Arthur Conan Doyle created a unique and enduring character when he first wrote of Sherlock Holmes. However, I do not give these stories that one extra star because some of the stories just do not have any of the magic of the best of the stories. If this book is taken in big, fast, gulps, the reader may tire of Sherlock's less social traits. I think this collection is best if taken a little at a time. There are some terrific stories here. But, if you insist on devouring several stories at a sitting, the terrific stories will not seem as terrific when ingested along with some of the less terrific stories and things may get confused in your head. Do read the book. ... show more

It's all Here
Format: Hardcover
With all the new movie and television Sherlocks out there, I decided it would be a good idea to see what the noise was all about. This book is terrific for that purpose. It's all in here... all the Sherlock stories. Granted, these stories are dated (1800s to be precise) but they are fun and easy to read. If you like history and England (London) and murder and intrigue all topped by efficient story telling...this is your book. ... show more
