I am in love with the Hometown USA yarn line, and Lake Tahoe Blue is my favourite. The yarn is so extremely soft and and fluffy and light so the final results are so satisfying! I've gone through three skeins of Lake Tahoe Blue and have come across one slightly thin, weak spot. Otherwise, it's pretty even and consistent. The colours are gorgeous - it's not just solid blue. Lots of light, subtle green, yellow, and purple make it a "peacock" theme. Just gorgeous and it works up so quickly into the quickest shawl possible. Update: I made a baby blanket for my sister using this yarn - my FIRST large finished project ever. I went through, I think, 5 skeins. In all 5 of the ones I used for the blanket, there were two little mangled areas that I had to cut out from the skein. I expect that from fluffy yarn like this, though. All 5 were also of the same dye lot but the colour variations vary from skein to skein and even within the same skein. I LIKE this effect, though. You might be able to see in one of my pictures that some rows have more yellows and green while some rows have more purples and blue shades. It just adds more interest. Be aware that softeness and yardage vary by color. SOFTENESS: I bought autumn el paso, houston cream, Los Angeles tan, oakland black, honolulu pink, cape cod tweed, NY white, Tennessee tango and all of these were extra soft. Autumn el paso is my favorite because of the richness of the color: there are hints of red that makes the yarn magic once crocheted. Kansas city tweed was slightly less soft but nothing on the "rough" side. It might come from the thread that makes it "tweed" looking. But just zooming on the picture will give you an idea YARDAGE: I think I remember yardage varies by color so zoom in, check the description of each color skein. If I recall correctly, traditionnal colors are slightly bigger than mixed colors. PRICE: Price varies greatly here on amazon. I have seen it in store for $8/$7 but you can score it for $3 or even lower here on amazon. So if you are in no rush, wait. ... show more

The yarn itself is beautiful and thick. It would be great for hand knitting, but I bought it to use on a knitting machine and for that it is WAY too thick. In the images I have it compared to Lion Brands vel-lux, fisherman, and scarfie. Otherwise the color is great, it is fairly soft (not as soft as scarfie) and seems well spun in a cursory glance. But if you have a knitting machine, pass this by. It’ll break ‘em. I did take one star off because for the price you don’t get a lot compared to their other varieties so it’s not very cost effective for large projects. ... show more
