  • Renewed...as good as brand new!!
I purchased a new Linksys Velop System with 3 nodes and decided to add 2 more nodes to further improve the signal in my home. I debated for quite some time as to whether I should try the "renewed version" since it was a pretty large savings. I decided to give it a try. When I received the two nodes they arrived in really sturdy packaging designed specifically for them (but I don't believe it was the original packaging). They look brand new, no marks, smudges or scratches. You literally cannot tell they are not brand new. After purchasing the original set I determined I had to contact Linksys to update the firmware. This is supposed to happen automatically but for some reason it does not the first time...based on what Linksys told me. So I contacted them and with their help updated the firmware on the two renewed nodes. I have been using them for several weeks now with absolutely no problems. I would definitely by renewed again!! ... show more

  • Dishonest company, product never worked properly
Size: 1-Pack
Short version--with the same service provider (Comcast Xfinity) and same upstream equipment our experiences with home wifi systems have been: Apple Airport: rock solid Linksys Velop: nothing but problems Netgear Orbi: rock solid We recommend that you stay as far away from Linksys as possible in order to avoid a living hell. Long version--when Apple discontinued their Airport wifi equipment we decided to replace it with a mesh system and narrowed our choice down to the Velop and Orbi systems based on rather extensive research. They seemed to be pretty equal at that point, and our decision to go with Velop over Orbi was based exclusively on the fact that Linksys explicitly and unambiguously stated on their website that parental controls were fully implemented and available on the Velop, while Orbi only stated that parental controls were still being developed. After setting up the Velop system, which was much more difficult than anything we had ever experienced with our Apple equipment, we could not get the parental controls to work, so we made the first of what would turn into many interminable support calls with hard-to-understand non-native English speakers. After resetting the system, including restarting the Comcast router, and each Velop node in turn (a 30-minute process that we discovered was the first troubleshooting step for ANY problem) the parental controls were still missing, so we were passed along to the next level of support, where we were told that parental controls were simply not yet available on the Velop system! When we explained that we had only chosen Velop over Orbi because of the availability of parental controls, we were merely told that the feature would be coming soon. Our objection that this was outright lying and consumer fraud was met with a non-chalant, "oh, that's just marketing." Parental controls did not arrive until six months later, and then only partially, but the entire time the website boldly claimed "granular parental controls" as a current feature. But then the real hardware problems started. We experienced regular dropouts in service and often one or more nodes would just spontaneously go offline. Each time we called in we had to go through the same 30-minute reset procedure before anything else, and that was usually followed by checking and updating the firmware in each node in turn (another 30 minutes). At some point (our personal record was a 2 hour and 20 minute support call) the system would usually come back online and work for a week or so before the same problems returned. And the whole time we were being told that adding additional nodes would certainly solve the problems. It did not--this is simply another dishonest up-sell in order for someone in the marketing department to earn a commission. Finally, in order to maintain our remaining sanity, we pulled out the Velop system (no they would not issue a refund for any reason) and got the Orbi. We have had no problems since. We will never again purchase any product from Linksys (nor for that matter from Belkin, their parent company), and can only recommend that everyone else follow the same advice. ... show more

  • Good Performance - Reliable
Size: 3-Pack
The Velop install was easy by using the Linksys app to program units and plug into ethernet & power. System configured as 1 - parent and 2 - child units. All units were wired by ethernet to the local network and rarely needs to be reset (1 time in 4 months). My Velop is confirgured in bridge mode where a Ubiquiti ERX gateway router performs all the LAN functions and DHCP. In general, I found that any mesh Wi-Fi works best in bridge mode with a separate router. There was no problems found with refurbished units. I replaced a disappointing Rockspace Mesh that included 3 wired units that was consistently unstable requiring daily resets and security concerns from remote backdoor access. ... show more

  • Not as advertised
Size: 1-Pack
This is a review of the Linksys VELOP product NOT the seller. I had no issues with my order or delivery. The Linksys VELOP system is advertised as an advanced tri-band mesh network with self healing capabilities (if a node goes down, the system remaps around the down node). Unfortunately, this is not true, and Linksys knows about the issues but does nothing. I have a few major issues which make the system un-usable for me / I wish I had known before buying. (1) Child nodes with excellent connectivity will randomly drop the connection. (2) Nodes do not self heal or auto reconnect. If your child nodes lose a connection for any reason including random radio drop or power outage, ISP outage, etc then you WILL need to manually reboot the nodes. (3) System does not allow for manual node steering or admin mapping which means you have to reboot the nodes in a very specific order OR they tend to connect directly to the most up-stream (parent) node which results in very poor internet connection/slow speeds DESPITE strong wifi signal. (4) Android app does not support push alerts so admin gets no notice when a node goes down (5) Linksys support: very nice people but reading from a script designed by someone to serve as an infinite loop. I believe this was designed to frustrate customers into moving on since they cannot actually solve the issues. I've had tech support updated, roll back, and update my firmware to no avail. I've spend more than 10hrs on the phone with Linksys support and everyone agrees that the system is set up correctly but still does not work. (6) New features never come: Linksys support promised me new features in firmware that never came. This pushed me outside my return window and now I have an expensive set of white linksys bricks. Do not buy this product if you need more than 2 wifi access points. ... show more
