  • Outstanding value
This otoscope is the best value available anywhere, ever - no exaggeration. I have owned several Welch Allyn models over the years, and have used probably every professional model made in the last 20 years. Dr. Mom does it right. For what you pay, this cannot be beat.

  • Decent quality
As a parent who works in the medical field this product works if you just need a quick look in the ears to check tube placement or any wax buildup. But it does not give you a great view of the ear drum. Overall it is a decent product. Not medical grade at all

  • Works great!
I needed an otoscope to check for cerumen impaction and it needed to have a bright light. The light in this unit allows a clear view of the ear canal and tempanic membrane! So, I'm delighted with it and the price was within my budget.

  • Works well
As a pediatrics provider and a mom, I had a previous version of this and it’s come a long way. The quality of the scope itself, clarity of the view and the inclusion of more tips in a latched case is very nice. Also love that the pictures of the eardrums are adhered right to the case for the novice users . Would recommend for anyone who needs to see inside the ear frequently. ... show more

  • Must have for parenting
The pictorial guide is accurate, great to know if the kids ears are clean when they complain of pain. Hate to go to the pediatrician for dirty ears. Leave the diagnosing of problems to the professionals, at least they can be seen with clean ear canals.

  • Very reliable for the purpose intended
Clear view of inner ear canal and easy to operate with assorted ear size pieces for children to adults.

  • Too harsh of whitish blue light
First of all I wanted to say that I really wanted to like this otoscope. I'm a physician and am used to the standard Welch Allyn otoscopes that are ubiquitous to healthcare field. I liked that dr. Mom is a small business and wanted to promote them. For $45 for an otoscope it's a bargain. Unfortunately the LED is bright white (think daylight) and it's too overpowering that it makes the eardrum look pearly white and Ina ble to distinguish a normal TM vs an infected one. I bought the Welch Allyn pocket otoscope 22820 with its incandescent light for $145 here at amazon. The build of WA is pretty good but the dr. Mom isn't bad either especially for 1/3 of the price. The viewing window of the Dr.Moms is kinda compromised by the LED light at 6'o' clock position while the WA viewing window is clean. With the WA it's very easy to distinguish a normal vs abnormal TM and makes it much easier to look at the engorged veins while with the dr. Mom everything was blanketed by the bright white light that makes it difficult to distinguish them. This is important especially if you are looking at a child's ear to look at engorged veins and redness of the TM which is the early sign of ear infection. I think in my opinion the incandescent light is able to portray a better visual definition of human tissues than LED and that makes the WA is a far better otoscope in detecting changes in TM than the dr. Moms. I wish that dr. Mom would switch out the bright white led to the soft white led (since most Christmas LED lights have soft whites) and have an option to dim the LED brightness which would make the light much less harsh as LED innately are very bright. If you are a Med student or a PA student, I would advise u to buy the WA as it more truer and would make picking up subtle changes in the TM better which will help your learning. While the WA is overpriced especially considering an otoscope is a light with a magnifying glass, if dr.mom could make these changes and even sell them for $60-70 it would be a good competitor to the WA. For occasional users and students the burning out of light bulbs with WA is a not a big deal as they tend to last long. I know it's not fair comparing a $50 scope with a $150 one but given that this is amazon's best seller, people should compare it to what's the usual standard and decide if price alone is worth the compromises. Just go for the better option. Good luck PS: I feel like I may have been too harsh on the 2 stars so Im upgrading it to 3 stars for value alone. As for the actual purpose of its use, its still not upto par. ... show more
