This is the fourth one I have purchased in a year. The first one is a 23000 btu and then I purchased 14btu. These two units keep about 1400 sq ft cool and I set it on 72-74. The best thing other than performance is they are so quiet you forget they are running. These replaced an old Frederick unit that sounded like a freight going through the den. Since I have bought two more 14000 btu, one for a rental and one for a small place at the coast. Best decision ever !! This unit cools well once it is finally installed, but almost everything about the design and installation experience feels poorly thought out for a $600 air conditioner. The installation was genuinely awful. The manual has incorrect or misleading pictures, and some steps do not seem to account for the actual layout of the unit, including the power cable interfering with one of the panels/grates. The included installation method also seems designed for an idealized window with a perfectly flat sill and no real-world lip or raised edge. My window has a lip on the sill, which made the instructed screw placement basically unusable. The screw holes simply do not line up with a normal apartment window setup. For an air conditioner this heavy, a support bracket should be expected. But once you use a bracket, the unit can no longer be secured to the window base the way the instructions want. That leaves the side panels/slats needing to be anchored somehow, but the included design does not provide a clean solution. I had to improvise with my own longer screw just to keep the window slides in place. It works, but it looks janky and makes the whole installation feel like a cheap workaround rather than a finished, well-engineered product. The unit is also extremely difficult to handle. It is heavy, but there are no good grip points, handles, or side divots to safely lift and position it. That is a ridiculous miss on something this large. Even small molded-in handholds would have made installation much safer and less frustrating. Build quality was also disappointing. The front plate arrived cracked and does not fit cleanly. Some of the plastic parts feel cheap, especially for the price. Once running, the cooling performance is good, and it does cool the room quickly. But the controls are underwhelming. There are three fan speeds, and the unit briefly indicates when the fan speed is changed, but the display area that appears intended to show the fan speed constantly does not light up. I cannot tell whether that is defective or just poor design. Either way, it is confusing. The difference between fan speed 1 and fan speed 3 is also barely noticeable. The app setup was more annoying than it needed to be, though it eventually worked. Overall, this is a powerful AC trapped in a poorly designed product. The cooling is good, but the installation, hardware, fit and finish, controls, and general usability are nowhere near what I would expect at this price. For $600, this should feel polished, safe, and well-engineered. Instead, it feels like generic installation slop that was not tested against normal apartment windows. I would not buy it again unless it were dramatically cheaper. ... show more

This was purchase to replace a 10 year old 18000 BTU Friedrich that stopped working. It was a wall mount unit. I checked with LG before I bought it if wall mounting would void the warranty, they said no. So I mounted it in the wall and made sure the side vent were clear. It works fantastic and very quiet. Knocked a star off because the last one I bought only lasted 3 years till it turned to a rust bucket, the lower coils rotted out, and the fan went out and shut down completely. These are designed to hold water in the pan which the fan uses to splash the coils for more cooling efficiency, however im confident that kills the life of the machine so much faster. I drilled couple holes in this pan to keep water drained and can't notice a lack of cooling efficiency from the last one. I'd recommend drilling the holes just look where you're drilling and don't hit the copper lines. ... show more
