abunda_amazon_reviews To preface this review, I am an owner of last year's Nano 8 series with the 49" size and I really love that TV. This year's new SM9000 also features the same NanoCell technology which allows for LED local dimming but features a more advanced "Full Array Local Dimming", or "FALD". Essentially, LED local dimming works by dimming areas of the picture that are dark while lighting up the parts of the picture that are meant to be bright, you get incredible contrast ratios and deeper blacks than what is usually seen in a traditional LCD. But it also introduces a problematic side effect: blooming. I was ecstatic to get my hands on the new 2019 NanoCell 9 but unfortunately, the FALD seemingly introduces even more noticeable blooming. FALD features hundreds of mini LED lights behind the panel that work in "zones" and as a result, has more precise LED local dimming because of the increased number of zones. But with all these zones continuously dimming and brightening the content makes the blooming effect just that much more apparent. A partially lit shot are displayed with large splashes of light that bleed all over the place. Just take a look at the photos I took of Blade Runner 2049 in the shots bathed in darkness and you'll immediately see what I mean. Alas, there is a way to stop the blooming! It involves turning down or turning completely off the "LED local dimming" setting, but there's also a side effect to that as well: blacks become very grayish and you lose your high contrast ratios. In the end, there was too many compromises to be had and all this blooming simply became too intolerable for me. I ultimately couldn't resist and upgraded to the OLED C9 which next to the NanoCell 9 by all accounts, trumps it in contrast ratio and absolute zero blooming. Now even though I am opting for the OLED and that you would think that this review is an entirely negative take on the NanoCell 9, it isn't really the case. This LCD excels in truly rich colors. Dolby Vision content on my Apple TV really shine through. Any one of Apple's 4K daytime aerial screensavers delivers a knockout image in color richness and clarity. Netflix's "Our Planet" shows vast landscapes and animal fur such as the mythical Syberian Tiger in vivid detail. The brightly neon lit holographic adverts of futuristic LA in Blade Runner 2049 in 4K from iTunes is stunning and blends colors like pinks and purples euphorically. And I personally don't watch sports, but I would imagine the outdoor fields would look glorious. Other future proofing positives include Dolby Atmos, AirPlay 2, eARC, and WiSA support (I am personally very excited for the future of this brand new tech!). It has an a7 Gen 2 processor, which isn't as advanced as the a9 in the OLED, but it should still be great smoothing out gradient color banding. Last, but certainly not least is the TV's very low refresh rate which is perfect for gaming enthusiasts. So what's the big takeaway from this? If you mostly use your TV during the day or in a bright room, then blooming shouldn't be bothersome and won't drastically affect the enjoyment of this TV. This set features incredible 4K detail, excellent HDR support, as well as a host of future proofing tech at a pretty affordable price. However, if you are a movie and TV show enthusiast and enjoy watching your content at night, you may be very disappointed in the side effects of the FALD, or the grayish blacks when turned off. In this scenario, the blooming sucks and tolerance for it will definitely vary from user to user, and if you insist on a truly consistent image when viewing at night, then I cannot recommend highly enough to splurge and just go for the OLED. Disclaimer: I received this TV at a specially discounted rate and I hope this fair and honest review is unbiased and true.

4k 120hz?
The tv itself is fine it looks really good. But if you bought it to game at 120hz at 4k. You’ll be disappointed. It has all the extra stuff in it specifically for gaming. Three extra settings in fact. But when In Pc mode it goes down to 2k @120hz instead of 4k. 4k will only be at 60hz. If you want a big monitor this will be good. If you want 4k@120hz look elsewhere. Even with an 8k HDMI 2.1 cable and a 2080ti sli it cant do it. Tv wise.

Great TV, lasted a week before the backlight died
TV backlight went out after 1 week. Hopefully I just got a lemon and the LG repair service fixes it soon. Warranty claim process was slow and buggy. Would not submit on iphone so I had to fill out all the forms again on my laptop. I will update after the repair process is complete. UPDATE: Took the day off work for the repair but they never showed up. Towards the end of the repair window I received a text that FedEx had just shipped a replacement part. Issued a return.

They need to fix the problems or lower the price
Great TV but I have one complaint, the screen darkens slightly at the corners. It is particularly noticeable when there is a one-color background. It is not quite bad enough to go to all the trouble of sending it back, but worse than I expected on a TV that costs over $1000. As a result, NOTHING is worth 5 stars and very little is worth 4 stars. Pros: Great picture, Really good Smart-TV interface with no ads and a good choice of apps. Apps for traditional streaming services (Netflix, Amazon, & Hulu) are speedy and easy to use. Cons: Corner dimming mentioned above, 4-speaker and 40 Watt sound built-in, sounds weird probably because it is down-facing and I have a glass tabletop. It has non-traditional controls for picture and sound that are hard to find and difficult to understand how to control, if there is a "manual mode" I have not found it yet, making advice on how to set it up nearly useless. Sound Volume varies wildly depending on the source and sometimes the channel or even the individual TV show. I often need to scramble for the volume control because I cannot hear or it blasts me out of my chair.

They took my first review down?
First TV came in broke at bottom of screen but had a excellent picture. My replacement looks fantastic on bright scenes but anyrhing dark is almost unwatchable with the light bloomimg from brighter images Also at the top of my screen I have a bright light that shines down towards the screen almost like a flashlight under it. Very hard to enjoy anything with it. Not sure how to return this TV if even possible because it would be my second return and this box I destroyed getting the TV out very safely by removing the whole back of it.

ok screen, backlight bleed from side and bottom view angle
Looks pretty good, the viewing angle is bad so if you plan on watching from front center its good, but from the side of the room you will see allot of backlight bleed

Bright smart TV
Wow, I have a one year old Samsung in one room and added this 65” LG to our new family room. This TV is a fantastic easy to set up smart bright TV. Way better than the Samsung. The package was delivered, double packed, vertical and easy to un pack and install. I have a cable box. It took a few attempts to get the smart LG controller paired but I got it done. The LG smart controller is awesome and responds well to voice commands. This TV is a great value for the money.
