  • 5.0 out of 5 stars For cinema fans go OLED, for gamers, get this
Size: 55-Inch Style: TV
For people in between, choose this TV as well. Uses an LG IPS display panel for good colors and has a reasonably good array for its full-array local dimming. You WILL see blooming around lighter objects on black/dark backgrounds but this is barely noticeable outside of menu screens and loading screens. The colors are fine, make sure to fine-tune your set, the speakers were shockingly adequate, but not going to blow your pants off. I honestly think this is one of the best TVs money can buy without going OLED. The magic remote is pretty dope, I fell in love with them pretty much immediately and LG's WebOS is super easy to navigate and snappy -- though I find that the OLED TV is notably more responsive versus this one, which leads me to believe the under-the-hood power of this TV is a fair bit lower. I find that rather curious considering this TV is a fair bit newer. I haven't spent any time on 4K movies with this TV, but I have enjoyed HDR 4k Gaming on it and it's definitely been a very acceptable experience. I eagerly await the advent of HDMI 2.1 devices to see what this TV can do with its VRR. Edit: Since writing this review I have watched a few movies in 4k HDR, specifically Avengers Endgame, IT Part 2, and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and the HDR experience is really good. It's still not quite OLED but it is so close. I think this TV excels in terms of its brightness, but the lighting zones are still a bit lacking. It exceeds my expectation for a TV in this price range and if there were more lighting zones I think the TV would end up being substantially heavier/thicker and it's not a particularly thin TV. One final note I want to add -- the lack of Steam Link support is a perplexing thing for me. While I can string an HDMI cord to my TV easily I'd really just rather not. It'd definitely be a rare occurrence for me to PC game on this TV, it'd still be a very nice to have feature. ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 4K display with some work needed out of the box
Size: 55-Inch Style: TV
I've only had the display a day, but compared to my other OLED55C6P, it's a strong contender with only the soft glow of the backlight eroding when compared to the inky black of the OLED. Side by side, this unit can get much brighter overall which I found useful in some cases and helped in some dark scenes that were too dark on the OLED to make out shadowy details. The biggest issue out of the box was that several of the basic features were not working, such as the Home button and Input Selector. Both buttons should present a menu on the bottom of the display, but did not work fresh out of the box. Even after a few firmware updates, these menus refused to show, but tapping the button would interrupt the current activity, and it felt to be offscreen somewhere inaccessible. To fix this, I had to performed two firmware upgrades (3.6->4.x->5.x) and then a factory reset. The firmware updates alone were not enough, a factory reset and complete power down finally flicked the right switches for full use. After all that, the TV functioned as expected and has been quite enjoyable thus far. ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Good price point for the quality. Very nice picture and
Size: 55-Inch Style: TV
Happy with this tv so far. Good color and good contrast. I think to get a very vibrant image without wash out you need to play with the settings a bit. I saw video complaints about the full array local dimming. To me it does exactly what it’s supposed to do. That feature itself on any tv is imo a poor attempt at milking the ips display. But it does the job and over edge lit dimming it is noticeably better which is why I went with the namo 9 over the 8. Motion rate is good. You can dial it down if you don’t like the soap opera effect. The stand is wobbly but it is what it is. I recommend you try all the modes. Each mode offers different types of tweaking. So you need to try them all. Using standard mode I felt like I could get the benefits of vibrant without being washed out. I like the dynamic color and contrast to bring out the image. I may tire of it once the novelty of the tv wears off. I looked at Samsung which would be my next choice but the price is just too high and they are not without their own pros and cons. Think most people will be happy with this model. Lots of fun options. ... show more
