65SM8600PUA Initial Review
Our most recent primary television purchase was an LG 60UH7700 Super UHD in late 2016 and the installation of that TV was straightforward so the expectation was already in place for a similar experience this time around. As we were unboxing the 65SM8600 I was immediately concerned about a large piece of foam packing inside of the box that was placed directly in front of the screen. My fear was the foam could have caused some damage to the screen during shipping and thankfully my fear was short lived as when we completed an initial functionality test I was pleased to see no visible issues. Once we got it mounted on the TV stand I started to notice the cosmetic changes that have happened over the past couple of years vs. our prior TV. The bezel was significantly thinner and the back panel of the TV is now smooth and very simplistic in appearance which I definitely prefer. Everything went as expected during the install and even my wife was surprised at how well it went. At this point all was good and it remained that way until it came to fine tune the picture quality. At first setup the screen had an unpleasant red tint and provided nowhere near the clarity our previous LG 4K TV had even after ensuring the satellite set-top box maintained its video settings. After testing the picture quality using 3 separate HDMI cables (including two supporting the HDMI 2.0b specs), two different inputs and every available picture mode I was concerned that it may be defective. Finally after approximately 40-50 different custom settings I’ve gotten it to a level of satisfaction that truly shows some improvement in the image quality. but still not to the point of our prior set. PRO’S Sleek appearance Moderately simple install, even for hanging on a mount Clean inputs layout on rear of TV Magic Remote, now has voice and quick launch buttons UHD picture quality looks great w/improved black levels webOS and it’s simplicity to navigate New “Picture Mode” options including calibrated settings CON’S Almost impossible to grip TV without touching the screen while mounting New “Home Dashboard” seems like a step backwards when compared to the improvements of webOS over previous versions Unpleasant and fuzzy picture quality without fine tuning Sound sync needs to have options for adjusting both ways Poor assembly quality (top center of back panel bulging out, see pic) After nearly one week of using the new TV I’m confident this is an improvement over previous iterations (w/out NanoCell). I’m sold that it provides improvements in picture quality but I fully understand this is based off my individual preferences and settings.

Spies on you
I purchased the 65 inch variety and the picture is good, the hdr is fantastic and unlike some other reviews on here I believe the brightness to be adequate. What I don't like is LG holds all the good features (primarily apps) hostage until too agree to their terms of service which stipulate you allow them to actively spy on what you watch. I paid for the TV and no TOS should allow a company to withhold features contingent on you sacrificing your personal information. I got around this by using Pl-hole which allows me to use all the features like I should have been able to in the first place but without any information making it back to LG or their advertisers. I will never purchase another LG product again. People should have a right to use all of what they pay for workout having to jump through hoops simply because you value privacy.

One month on - Pretty happy once power on/off issue was resolved
Pros: Great picture, decent sound. 4 HDMI ports, Smart TV functions work well. Wasn't a fan of the "magic" remote pointer function but I am used to it now. On our previous TV we used a Roku Ultra or Chromecast pretty much non-stop. Between Plex, Netflix, and Amazon we were always on the Roku or watching YouTube on the Chromecast. All of those are handled by the Smart TV now so we never use the Roku anymore. We do sometimes use the Chromecast as it is a little easier for YouTube. But we could get by without it. Freeing up two HDMI ports is nice. Cons: Only issue we've had was the TV would not turn off and stay off. This was very annoying as we would have to turn the TV off 4 or 5 times before it would stay off. We would turn it off then 5-10 seconds later it would turn itself back on again. Rinse, lather, repeat. A firmware update appears to have resolved this issue.

Great TV for the money
The LG TV is fantastic if you want a more massive flatscreen without spending over $3K.. The picture is crisp and clear, and we don't even have a Hi-Def cable box. Service provider brought out a basic cable box. We live in an area that does not have high-speed broadband or cable TV. Once we move back to the future, this TV will only get better. Hope this review helps those of you who are trying to decide. Sidenote: The remote is a little weird, and I am still figuring out all its features and functions.

Very hard to watch
The picture quality and option motion smoothing is sub par - makes for a very jarring picture. In addition the sound is really awful for a tv of this size with lots of inconsistencies. You get what you pay for.

Ok but shipping was bad on my unit.
The product was ok but the HDR wasn't as expected it kept flicking and not good to watch.I don't know if that is normal or if is defective.I also noticed some unusual cloudiness doing some scenes doing a movie I was watching, I thought I had glaucoma. My panel wasn't that great, the center of the screen appeared darker than the rest of the screen, could have been damaged in delivery.
