  • Needs to have a way to train the water from the condensation
Works as described. The only problem is the drain for the condensation is too close to the floor. I had to install it on a platform and put a condensation pump under it.

  • Nice stand alone AC unit; very quiet and cools quickly.
I ordered this LG 5,000 BTU SACC (8,500 BTU ASHRAE) Portable Air Conditioner, 115V, Cools 150 Sq.Ft. (10' x 15' Room Size) for our teenager’s room; we live in a tiny Victorian era house in NYC, and his old AC finally died. This freestanding unit works beautifully; I think my son’s favorite thing about it is how quiet it is compared to his ancient window unit. When we moved in, he chose the smallest bedroom because he “got his own wing” of the house; the upstairs hall turns in two directions, and by taking the smallest room around a corner, he got the most privacy. This AC cools his whole room quickly and easily, it’s far more powerful than we expected. My husband found this fairly easy to install; it comes with the 27” wide plastic panel for window installation. The panel can be trimmed down to size. You need to have enough room for the unit to stand near the window; we’ve used this type of unit before and my kid calls them R2D2 units. This was much easier to put in than it was taking out the old window unit; while you need to drain these units, they’re really great for NYC apartments and smaller rooms. I like the smaller size of this “R2” unit; of course air conditioners aren’t things of beauty, hand carved and brimming with gargoyles, but the simple lines, rounded corners, and grey and white color scheme are attractive and will work in most rooms. My kid likes having a remote; the AC has three settings, Cool, Dry, and Fan. My kid sometimes uses the fan for white noise when doing homework or for privacy. The dry setting takes humidity out of the room. And of course, the Cool setting cools the room down fairly quickly; given how hot it got and how early we broken90 degrees this summer, this new AC has been a blessing. It’s worth noting that this unit does need to be drained; the drain is quite low to the floor, but we’ve done this for years, and have a good feel for what kitchen gear has a low enough profile to drain into. If the unit fills up, it turns off for safety. After draining it, it will turn back on. At the current price ($348.57) this is a nice deal on a trusted AC brand; we’ve had luck with LG brand ACs in the past, and we’re very pleased with this one. My kid’s room is cooler and quieter, and we’re all very pleased. ... show more

  • Quiet and Comfortable, But Mine Leaves Surprise Puddles
This portable AC does cool things down, so on the main job it does work. It is also pretty quiet, which I really appreciate. Some portable AC units are loud enough that they feel like they are trying to become part of the conversation, but this one is much easier to live with and makes the room way more comfortable. I have used portable AC units before, and this is not my first or second one, so I am pretty familiar with how they are supposed to be set up and used. The issue I have is that mine leaks through the bottom when it is running in AC mode. It is not a huge amount, but every so often it leaves a little puddle on the ground like a scared dog. Funny in theory, less funny when you have to keep checking the floor. I do not think this is just user error or me not knowing how portable AC units work, since I have had several before. It is a small leak, but any amount of water coming out of the bottom is something you have to watch, especially if it is on a floor you care about. That said, it does still cool the room down well. For a smaller space, office, bedroom, or backup cooling setup, it can be very useful. It makes the room noticeably more comfortable, stays fairly quiet, and does the actual cooling job well. It just comes with the added feature of occasionally marking its territory. Overall, I would say it works and makes the space much more comfortable, but the leaking keeps it from being a stronger recommendation. If it did not have that issue, I would be a lot happier with it. ... show more

  • LG 5,000 BTU SACC (8,500 BTU ASHRAE) Portable Air Conditioner - Cools well
Portable air conditioner It came packed well; it arrived safely though one of the straps had removed in transit and the bottom was Breaking Free. Lucky thing that this was its last stop. A note to the manufacturer; add two more straps laterally and a round of tape to keep them in place. The unit runs on R32 refrigerant if that matters to you. Apparently, it’s flammable and caution should be made when servicing the refrigerant lines. I personally see no issues with it; the unit works great. To exhaust the hot air outside (which you’re going to want to do!!!), there's a window vent panel that's 27 inches wide. It's plastic and will need to be trimmed down if your window is less than 27 inches. For larger windows, there's an additional 27-inch extension panel, which will get you to 52 inches. The hose assembly could use Improvement where the flex hose connects to the mounting and diffusing ducts as they're difficult to get the threading started onto the extended flex duct and to keep in place should the unit be moved. But the system does work and I can’t think of anything better. Be sure to thread a lot of flex-pipe into the Mounting and Diffusing Ducts to keep it in place. The unit cools well, there are three modes which are Cool, Dry and Fan. The Dry function will dehumidify the room without significantly cooling it off. Nice for a rainy day. The remote control is easy to use and convenient too. It also comes with a generic pair of batteries. Some models have wi-fi, mine did not. The unit will collect water in the reservoir at the bottom of the unit; it doesn't drain outside as a window unit AC would. The Reservoir in the bottom holds around two pints. It will need to be drained periodically. The unit will power down when full. The unit cools well and does a great job for a bedroom. The noise level is surprising low compared to the window units I've had in the past. The size is reasonable as well. It comes with casters which roll well. It’s well made and a good value for the money. ... show more

  • This has helped cool down a section of the living room that retains heat
I live in a charming house that dates back to 1942, which adds character but also comes with its own set of challenges—especially when it comes to insulation. The windows, featuring the traditional weighted design, allow warmth to seep in during the summer, making certain areas feel uncomfortably hot. To combat this, I decided to invest in a portable air conditioner for my living room, which is quite spacious and exceeds 150 square feet. I positioned it near the front door to specifically target a section that tends to retain heat more than the rest of the room, providing a much-needed cooling effect. The installation process, however, was somewhat problematic. I quickly discovered that the included install kit didn't fit my window correctly. Given that my house is smaller and has older windows, it became evident that the dimensions were not ideal for a straightforward venting setup. To resolve this issue, I had to get creative. I used a saw to modify the panel, trimming it down to ensure that both the exhaust and intake ports could fit snugly. Once that was successfully completed, the remaining assembly fell into place without any further complications. Now that the unit is installed, I find it impressively quiet. It operates with a gentle hum that goes almost unnoticed, making it easy to forget it’s even running. The air conditioner comes with a remote control, which greatly enhances usability—no more getting up to adjust settings! I haven't yet cleaned the filter, but according to the manual, it appears to be a simple task that I can tackle without any trouble. Since installing the air conditioner, I've noticed a significant improvement in comfort levels, particularly in that hot section of the living room. It efficiently cools the space, creating a more enjoyable environment. I also appreciate the unit's thermostat feature, which automatically shuts off cooling once the desired temperature is reached, conserving energy and ensuring consistent comfort. As a longtime user of several LG products, I have to say I’m very satisfied with their performance. LG has always stood by their warranty, and I’ve never experienced issues getting assistance when needed. This air conditioning unit is just another testament to the reliable quality that LG consistently delivers. ... show more

  • Much more power than expected. Db tested.
This portable AC is much more substantial than I expected, especially for a unit marketed for small rooms. It measures approximately 27 inches tall, 10 inches wide, and 13 inches deep, and weighs at least 50 pounds. It definitely feels like a serious appliance rather than a compact portable unit. Build quality is excellent. The unit feels extremely well-made and built to last. The included exhaust hose is premium quality and much nicer than those included with many portable air conditioners I've used in the past. The only area that could use improvement is the window exhaust kit. The window plate is thick and opaque, which I appreciate, but the sections don't lock together as securely as I'd like. The same goes for the exhaust adapters that connect to the hose and window plate. Once installed they work fine, but they could snap together a bit better. Performance has been impressive. As long as the unit is vented properly, cooling performance easily exceeds expectations. This model also includes an Auto Clean function that continues running for about 20 minutes after shutdown to help dry internal components and reduce moisture buildup. For those interested in noise levels, I measured approximately 60-65 dB on the low setting and 70-75 dB on high using a smartphone decibel meter standing directly next to the machine. It would be quieter further away. Most of the noise comes from the exhaust side, which isn't surprising given the crazy volume of air this unit moves. One thing to keep in mind is drainage. The drain plug is located at the very bottom of the unit, which may be a pain for some users. If you frequently use Dry Mode, you’ll likely need to drain the unit more often. This could become an annoyance over time. The included wheels make it easy to move across hard flooring, although maneuvering on carpet can be a little more challenging due to the weight and the fact that there is only a single carrying handle. The included remote is convenient and comes with batteries, which is always appreciated. Overall, this is a powerful, well-built portable air conditioner that feels premium from top to bottom. Considering the performance, build quality, and features, I believe the price is well justified. If you're looking for a portable AC that feels durable, performs well, and appears built for long-term use, I highly recommend it. ... show more

  • Life saver for the summer.
I started preparing for the summer and hurricane season and purchased an LG 5,000 BTU portable air conditioner for my son's room in case we lose power or the central AC unit breaks down. The size is perfect for a small room, and the swiveling casters make it easy to move from room to room. Although I do not plan to move it often, I am considering purchasing two more units for my other bedrooms. With my backup generator, I should be able to keep all three bedrooms comfortable during a power outage. The unit uses R32 refrigerant, and the instructions state that it contains a flammable refrigerant. Be sure to follow all safety precautions and installation instructions provided by LG. The remote control is very easy to use and provides full access to all settings. The unit also comes with two batteries for the remote. I tested the air conditioner to become familiar with its operation before hurricane season, and I was very satisfied with its performance. Initially, I was a little concerned about the noise level, but I realized I had not connected the exhaust hose to the window. Once I properly installed the hose, the noise level became much more manageable. Overall, I am very pleased with this unit and feel confident it will be a valuable backup cooling solution during severe weather or power outages. ... show more
