3rd season with this humidifier and loving it!

I’ve owned this humidifier since November 2023 and it’s still going strong! I live in a small, one bedroom condo and keep this in my bedroom and it humidifies the entire place. I use only distilled water in it as the tap water where I live is very hard. Distilled water makes the cleaning very easy as I’m not cleaning up build up of minerals or scaling, just cleaning any bacteria that builds up over time. Since I do not need to use the included water filter, I remove the part that houses it which equals less things to clean. I also do not use the little felt pad because we use distilled water. I haven’t used the aromatherapy pad. The top fill is a game changer and makes replenishing water so quick, easy, and hygienic. I use to hate flipping my old humidifier over to unscrew the wet cap and then flip the full, heavy reservoir onto the base. Overnight, I go through about a gallon of distilled water. If I’m home during the day I typically go through 2 gallons (one during the day and one overnight). If we get particularly cold weather then I will go through maybe 2 1/2-3 gallons in an entire day as the forced air heating runs more frequently. If the weather isn’t as cold, a gallon of water could last 2 nights or more, and one gallon would suffice for an entire day. I will say that the humidity reading is off by about 15% in my case, so I have to set the target humidity higher so that I get to the level I actually want, not lower. It’s not a problem once you tweak it to give you the humidity you need. I also set the warm mist level to high as I believe the warm mist is much more effective and beneficial than the cold mist. It is quiet. With the warm setting set to high you do hear a “simmer/boiling” sound however I do find that sound to be soothing, like a pot of soup on the stove. I use the app to control it and set it on a schedule. I love that I don’t have to remember to turn it off before I go to work in the morning. The app is very user friendly and even has additional features like plant care. I’ve added every plant I have to the app and it reminds me when to water and fertilize them which has made my black thumb a bit greener! My plants are thriving thanks to that feature. Whenever this device decides to give up, I will buy the same one again. I’ve recommended this product to anyone who asks. It really saves my sinuses in the dry north east winters. And it really saves my husband’s skin, he suffers from eczema. No more nose bleeds and no more eczema break outs! Comfort in the dead of winter. Buy this! ... show more

Great Humidifier! Not so great for hard water.

I live in a apartment that has a real bad hard water problem and killed my last humidifier. We are talking pink slime and brown mineral build up on the humidifier. I filter the crap out of my water now but still worried that it would not be enough and kill another humidifier so I hesitated to buy one, let alone one for a hundred dollars. But my wife begged me and this went on sale so I decided to give it another go. This humidifier beats the crappy one I got from Costco easily. Not only is it quiet compared to my old one, it also works on a decently large living spaces. It has a button to switch between cool or warm mists and turns on and off automatically to save on refills. My living room has a bar that opens to the kitchen and dining room so I had to take that into account when buying this based on square footage so I had the feeling this wouldn't cover it. (over 900 ft²) But I wanted to gauge it first to see if I needed two of these or if I could get away with buy this and one smaller one. (It's rated for only 750 ft²) Honestly it does the job, I set it to 55 and it did just fine by itself. But because of the room sizes it doesn't shut off automatically very often. I like it so far and my wife loves it. We ended up getting another smaller one from the same company for the room for 40 bucks and that one is pretty good too but slightly louder with the water gurgles. Now here is the only negative things I will say. I gave it 5 stars because one, my room exceeds the rated size and it still performs well. It does produce white dust everywhere, I even found it in my bathroom. It likes to cling to plastic objects but can easily be dusted away. But this is due to my hard water and not the product itself. If you have hard water problems like I do, you are going to want to purchase a demineralization cartridge pack to help. Secondly I noticed that the mist direction can be adjusted to point in two different directions. This is sadly poorly designed because the humidifier measurement is most accurate when it is pointed toward the front of the machine. I have a few devices that measure humidity levels in the house and the measurements on the humidifier were wrong when I had it pointed to the sides. Also read all the instructions before using it. There is a lot of DON'T DO this in the manual that I would have missed if my wife didn't point them all out to me. I just wanted to set it up and tossed the manual to the side. I would go over them but there are a lot of things that can destroy the unit so if you don't want to be on the phone with the customer support looking like a fool like I did to my wife for not reading the manual first. Please read the manual. Besides all that stuff its a great humidifier and I am probably going to purchase another one. Just want to wait awhile so my wife stops thinking it was her great idea. Everything you need to know about this humidifier! If you live in a state with cold, dry winters, the warm mist function is a must. I didn’t originally purchase this humidifier for that feature, but now I realize how much of a difference it makes. The water tank stays very clean when using filtered or distilled water, though the base of the tank—like with most humidifiers—does need cleaning after a few days. The cleaning process is thorough but straightforward if you follow the manufacturer’s instructions using vinegar. It does leave a light layer of dust from minerals in the water, which is common with all humidifiers and easy to wipe away. We’re able to run this compact humidifier on the upper level of our 1,900 sq ft home, and it keeps the humidity around 30%, depending on the weather. When filled completely before bed, it runs on high all night—close to 8 hours. Overall, this is a great product and works extremely well. ... show more

Pretty decent. Holds a lot of water, Steam is not too high and comes out smooth. The display is larger than others and can be turned off so there is no light illuminating from unit. Ive yet to clean it, but so far after a month or so of owning it, I am quite satisfied and it does the job well and is exactly what was described when I purchased it. I have a wood stove, so dry air is a challenge, and I've had about 10 different humidifiers in the past several years, so I'm something of an expert, I guess. I've tried Vicks, Bionaire, Homedic, and some more expensive units. But I've had this for almost a month now, and I think my search is finally over... this unit has the highest output of any of the steam or cool mist units I've tried. It's really very good, in all aspects, and I haven't had any of the issues others have mentioned... it simply works, it's quiet, and cleaning isn't hard at all. The controls and the amount of precise control you have over the output is excellent, and the humidistat seems to be very accurate. When it's out of water it stops every time, and when you refill you don't have to reset all your settings... it holds them until you manually turn the unit off. I also like how small it is, and it's very easy to move it to wherever you want it. Refilling is easy, it has jsut the right amount of capacity so it's not too heavy to refill (I think it's 1.5 gal) and the directional "spouts" work very well. Iv'e been extra careful with the tank after reading of some other people's problems with cracks, and it's been fine so far. Of course, with a wood stove, you need a LOT of humidity replacement. This Levoit can raise the humidity about 5-10%, but bear in mind I'm using this in a fairly large area, 800 sq ft, which is almost twice the recommended room size for this unit... so technically this unit shouldn't be big enough. But I just put it near our seating area and it makes a big difference... I was surprised at how much more humid the area feels. I tried it in the master bedroom and it blew the Vicks unit away, and got it to 50% pretty quickly. With the wood stove going, none of my steam humidifiers could even move my humidity needle 1%. And out of all the ones I've tried, only my huge evaporitive whole house humidifier has more output than this one... but while that beast can raise my humidity about 15-20% only when on the highest setting, it's such a pain to keep clean, you need to add chemicals which I don't feel is very safe, and it's really loud... so loud we didn't use it much. I can't really think of any negatives at all... it's really a great unit. I guess if I could get 2 for the price of one it would be better, but it's eel worth the money IMO. BTW, my suggestion is to stay away from cool mist... in fact I will never get a cool mist unit again. Even using 100% pure H2O (distilled) from my reverse osmosis system, it still makes a white dust, and the chemicals I tried only reduced the amount of dust, but didn't eliminate it. They're also really hard to keep clean, and bacteria is a real problem. Plus, who wants to add chemicals to the air you breath? Check it out... I don't think you'll be disappointed. EDIT: I've had it almost 2 years now, and the heat element stopped working for the warm mist. Granted, I use it daily all winter long, but in this day and age a heat element should last years. I simply wrote to Levoit, explained the problem, verified my receipt and all that, and they're sending me a new one. No hassles, no cost. That's the way it should be... great company that stands behind their products! How rare these days. ... show more

Best unit ever!!!

We just finished our 3rd year of using this and it is by far the best humidifier we have ever purchased. In fact, we purchased another one that same year for our sons room and then last year a smaller Levoit for our daughters room (much smaller space). Please note that due to heavy minerals in our well water we have always used these using only distilled water. This year we changed to using RO water because we had a unit installed in our home last year and now we don’t have to purchase Distilled water. In my experience all humidifiers will output white dust unless we use mineral free water. Both the distilled and our now home installed drinking water system makes this unit run flawlessly with very little need for cleaning during the winter months. We love the WiFi capacity with these units as it is convenient for our family. We set each unit up with programs to come on 2 hrs before bedtime and stop running 30 minutes before typical wake up times. We can set the desired humidity levels and forget about it. I mentioned that with using distilled or RO water these stay super clean thought out the winter but the great thing is that when you do need to clean these, it is very easy compared to all other units we have ever had (and we’ve had many with varying brands). Just about everything comes off for ease of cleaning. We do not use the little port for essential oils so I cannot comment on that aspect of the units. So far these seem like they will be holding up much better than other brands so although they are a bit more $ I feel like we are getting a good value based on what durability is thus far. ... show more

I really love this unit. It is the best humidifier I've had. The fact that it can maintain a set humidity level relatively accurately is a huge asset. I live in the southwestern US and it is very dry here, and I am also a musician. Having recently purchased a very nice acoustic guitar made of all solid wood, I wanted a humidifier that would keep my apartment at a stable humidity level ideal for an acoustic instrument. This unit does the job but requires some extra steps to make it truly work for me. I've found that under normal operation, the humidifier will run until the internal hygrometer senses that it has reached the target humidity level. Once it has reached the target level, it will stop until the relative humidity drops to 5% below target and then it will run again. However, it will often linger around the target level (according to the display) when it clearly feels dryer than what is being displayed. Now, I have yet to test this with another hygrometer (I need a weird battery for my other one that I have been too busy/tired/lazy to buy), but other people have and they have noticed that the displayed RH% on the Levoit unit is about 10% higher than on another hygrometer. What I have noticed is that if I run a fan in the room, the displayed RH% drops significantly, and then the humidifier is outputting quite a bit more mist and at this point I feel that the RH% on the readout matches what I feel in the room. This is consistent with other reviews. My belief is that the humidity sensor on the Levoit unit is not that well designed. It seems to be fooled by the mist around the humidifier into detecting a higher-than-accurate humidity level. This is easily remedied by running a fan near the humidifier to encourage airflow. About the aroma pad (IMPORTANT!): I DO NOT recommend using the aroma pad. I was really excited for this feature and it plain doesn't work. Levoit says aroma should be "light" and I would agree if you put your nose right up to it, yes, you can smell a light aroma. It does nothing for the room. What it does seem to do is further confound the humidity sensor, making it impossible for the unit to reach anywhere near the target humidity. At one point, I noticed I was getting no mist output for some time after applying oil to the aroma pad and inserting it. I removed the aroma pad, and the readout RH% dropped like a rock! The sensor is right in that area where the aroma box is, so I just bought a separate ultrasonic diffuser to make my apartment smell nice. Other than the aroma box/humidity sensor issue, this is actually a fantastic unit. Very easy to clean, easy to fill and the big reservoir can last a while. If I need to take a trip and I'm gone for a few days, it will keep my apartment humid enough that my guitar is happy. The mist output is strong, and the two rotating nozzles really spread it around. I've heard also that a separate smart-home hygrometer connected to a smart outlet can regulate the unit's output if the unit is set to manual, which would then make it a perfect set-and-forget humidity solution. ... show more
