I'm a severe allergy and asthma sufferer. After all sorts of medication and surgeries, one of the best things that help me fall asleep quickly and wake up without a scratchy throat is a humidifier. I've tried several other brands which all seem to end up leaking and molding. So far this Levoit has been incredible. If you're looking for a compact bedside humidifier, look no further. The best part of this humidifier is, unlike others, you can fill it from the top. This is much more convenient than taking the reservoir off, unscrewing a cap, and juggling an odd-shaped container. With the Levoit all you have to do is remove a small grey cap and pour the water directly into the reservoir making this so much easier and less messy. This is a perfectly adequate humidifier that has a decently sized tank reservoir, operates fairly quietly, and is easy to use. Cleaning is not easy, but can be done with a little delicacy. However, there are a couple design drawbacks that prevent it from being great. First, the cord. Relatively adequate length of about 6 ft, but it can't be unplugged from the base for easy cleaning of the unit. It can only be unplugged from the outlet and the cord dragged with you. If your outlet is easy to get to, and you don't mind having an electrical cord hanging around your sink, it should be fine. (I find it annoying, my outlet location isn't ideal for frequent unplugging, and the cord makes it more difficult to clean the base.) You can unscrew the cover plate around the cord and adjust it *very slightly* if you need a tiny bit of extra length (maybe an inch). Second, the tank. It fits over the base fine and is easy to align. However, there is nothing to seal that area, and as the humidifier runs, a little bit of condensation collects between the base and tank sides, and trickles down to squeeze out and down the outside of the base to the surface the humidifier is sitting on. If you don't have it sitting on a wooden or other surface that will be damaged by water, it should again be fine - it's not a lot of water, a couple millimeters per full tank is what I've noticed on my bedside table. While not perfect, it's certainly adequate and puts a good plume of vapor into the air. But I would like it much better if these 2 issues we're addressed. Cleaning would still be a bit awkward due to the float and mist tube, but it would be easier. Update: Switching from 3 to 2 stars and returning the unit are running it only 6 times. The leaking issue has gotten rather worse, from a couple milliliters after the first few runs to nearly an ounce (a bit less than 30 mL). Images are my kitchen counter after running a 3/4 full tank until it stopped, and compared to 1 oz water I poured next to it, then soaking both up with a paper towel. I don't want to run it in my kitchen, but I don't have a fully waterproof surface to place it on where it's needed. ... show more

    • Fragile but good customer service

I like Levoit products and own a suite of different Levoit products but am disappointed with this humidifier model. I was initially excited to find this model as it is easy to use and add essential oils. However, I have found this model unreliable and breaks after several weeks or months of usage. I purchased several and they have all broken down; they leak water making puddles. The pink slime formation and difficulty to clean is also true from other reviews. For machines that have not passed the Amazon refund date, I’m returning. One of my machines is past return date (purchased in August 2021), I’ve contacted Levoit directly and their customer service was easy to work with and is in the process of sending me a replacement machine. I’m not optimistic that the replacement machine will not break again but at least Levoit is honoring their 1 year warranty. ... show more

Wanted to love this, but holy cow - the amount of water it goes through is insane. We have hard water, so I was using gallons of distilled water. Even on sleep mode, I’d fill this thing up before going to bed and in the morning it would have turned off Bc it ran out of water. We already had a Crane humidifier, that we loved. So I bought another one of those. Can fill it up and it’s good for days, even on the high setting. Returned this one and that was sort of a hassle. Not seamless - had to contact seller, get a shipping label, etc. They also couldn’t give me a refund, only an Amazon gift card. Wouldn’t recommend. ... show more

    • Very difficult to clean

I have been cleaning this humidifier every 2-3 days using a solution of vinegar and water because orange mold forms inside the spout and it's base. It is a very time consuming and complicated process. It is necessary to separate the parts on the removable spout in order to get inside to remove all of the orange mold that grows there. Separating the base of the spout from the body of the spout is very difficult and I am afraid that I will break the plastic because it requires quite a bit of force to get it apart. There is even orange mold deep inside the spout when I look down into the opening that the mist comes out of - The only way I can get to it is to use a wooden skewer with a small piece of wet paper towel on the end, but I can't get all of it clean and that concerns me. There is also orange mold that sometimes grows inside the reservoir base and under the float. It is very difficult to clean under the float as it is not detachable. I am so disappointed because the humidifier work great and is so easy to fill. ... show more

    • Good but leaks after one month...

I received this November 20, and it has been leaking since December 20. I’ve only used distilled water, I’ve cleaned it regularly, and I have it on an appropriate surface so this is clearly a design flaw since so many reviewers have the same issue. Other than the leaking, it works well for the price. I live in a VERY dry climate, and my heater makes dryness a huge issue during winter. If you can tolerate the leaking, I’d recommend buying it. If leaking is going to bother you, I’d recommend buying a different humidifier. ... show more
