This thing is great to hide my wireless router, modem and cabling. People complain because the add on leviton stuff is expensive. But really just go to the hardware store and buy your own stuff to make it work. I installed an X10 plug inside a regular AC rated junction box and just secured it with screws. Everything else I just neatly zip tied. It looks fine and neat enough to me. The x10 plug works great because I dont have to open this up if I need to restart my modem and router. I would highly recommend putting in "x10" or something from "smarthome" if your going to put your wifi router inside and screw it closed. The only problem I had was that the slackers who built my house didn't know that 16 on center is a standard for a reason. So after I neatly cut the drywall out I saw hey this thing is designed to fit perfectly snuggly betweeen 16 on center studs. I had to do some banging on the stud with a hammer to knock it over 1/4 of an inch so I could get this in between the studs. In the process I had to patch some drywall and paint because the screws popped through on the other side of the wall from me banging on the stud. My wife was freaking out and I was swearing quite alot at the morons who built my house, but really not that big of deal to fix. I installed one of these over the weekend and I am satisfied with the result. I think that the 14 inch version is the smallest size. It should be. It looks big when it is empty but once I started running cables and components in to it the space closed up pretty quickly. I believe that it will be large enough for my Leviton 8 port Ethernet switch along with my cable TV signal booster / splitter (6 way). There is still room for a telephone switch or anything else that I may decide to put in there. I have seen another similar product that had a built in air space behind the components. Cables could be routed behind components by using this competitor's configuration. These boxes are overpriced. I don't blame them because I obviously knew that before I made my purchase. Specifically speaking I purchased the (box with the cover). The cover is loose. If I want the "hinged" cover I will have to spend even more. I may or may not spend the extra money. I might make a hinge of my own. Anyway it is a good product. Over priced as it may be I am happy to have the professional look that this unit brings to my home technology department. ... show more

You can't go wrong for a basic box to tie together services. There are two size knock outs on this panel. The small knockouts are capable of accepting a 1" and 1.5" conduit. The large knock out accepts a 1.5" and 2" conduit. There are two small knock outs on each side. Four knockouts on the top (2 small and 2 large). On the bottom- one small knockout, a combo plate with a small knockout, and a power knockout that accepts a standard metal old work box with dog ears. The sides have tabs that can be deployed for flush mount to half inch sheetrock. Included is a pack of foam to cover the knockouts and reduce friction while sliding cables as well as minimize vapor transfer through the panel to the wall. This is pretty much the standard box for structured media in a small house or apartment. Personally the larger size is better for future proofing but this should be able to handle a gateway and a dozen ethernet runs with little issue. ... show more

Works good, will require creativity and lots of time on your ends for a proper set up and fit of everything inside. I used it for a phone cable modem, internet modem, wired router, and power strip. Consolidated the network devices in the garage, the same wall where the cable comes into the house from. Ran 2 CAT6 cables through the wall to the outside of the house, they enter the house at different places and connect to WAPs. Mounted modems with bolts and nuts, theres mouthing slots on the back of the modems for this. Mouthed router with 3m mounting tape from home depot. Same with power strip. Nothing fancy but it works. I have installed two of these. The first was in 2004, and loved the thing. I installed it in the hall closet and brought the telephone and antenna drop through the attic to 2 inch conduit attached to the media center that I installed through the closet header using a hole saw. I used the Media Center to house the telephone punchdowns and RJ-6 Co-Ax splitter, and as a central location to distribute those drops to the kitchen, living room, and bedrooms. I sent one to three Cat 5 cables to selected locations for my wired ethernet network as well, and the media center housed the network's DSL modem and ethernet switch. The wireless gateway was on a shelf in the living room, and connected through it's own Cat 5 drop. I sold that house last year, and I am duplicating the install in the new location. ... show more

Great product overall. I agree with other posters that the knockouts were a bit tough but I was able to manage with pliers and a screwdriver. The grommets were a nice addition to minimize dust in the case. I installed this product in my garage and it fit perfectly between two studs. I screwed directly into the studs using the wings on the case that can be extended. To help anyone else considering this case vs the larger option: I have the TRENDnet 16-port Unmanaged Gigabit router inside this box (12 ports used) and an 8 way cable splitter inside and it's extremely tight with all of the wiring. I have the 1 gang panel punched out to run the AC cable out the bottom of the case so it wouldn't consume more room. I was able to make it work but in hindsight I wish I would have gone to the larger version for future flexibility. ... show more
