    • Five Star Computer finally fixed and runs great
Last Update: After technical attempts over the phone, Lenovo fast delivered a box, went to FedEx, and the computer was returned fast-fast to me at my door. Amazing. Turns out the software for the finger print reader in the on-off button was defective and had the wrong software. It did take 2.5 hours or so to bring it back up to working speed. Came up with loading Windows 10 first, then asked to reload Windows 11, all I had to do was wait around for all of it to load. Then I reloaded MS 365. I will buy a mouse soon because the pad drives me nuts it is so sensitive. But, it sure is fast, lovely screen, and BEST of all it will fit into carry on luggage wonderfully. I am happy to have gone to Lenovo rather than send it back to Amazon. Yes, it is bad to have things like this happen, but Lenovo provided superb service. I hope none of you go through this, but if you do.... send it back to Lenovo. The finger print works so fast. Just touch the thing and "boom" you are up and running in a flash. Another new update: Computer sent back to the Lenovo Depot for repair. I was amazed that they shipped a return box via overnight mail. the paperwork was easy to fill out because I had a "case number". Went to FedEx and we shall see what happens. One frightening thing happened prior to the technical discussion with IBM/Lenovo. The Windows 11 install gave me a Blue Bitlocker screen that was scary. But there was a note to go to my-somethingorother where this huge number existed. Got back in. I have to laugh. This whole thing for $1079.00 has been a learning experience. Will they fix it.... we shall see. We shall see. The darn machine is really nice in many ways, but like with so many things the "plug and play" and the downloading is not simple any more. These programs are massive and the electronics throwaway.... See you again in 2 weeks when it comes back. If it does come back. New Update: after 50 hours of use it goes back to Lenovo Depot for repair. Got with Lenovo Technical and they had never seen this one before. There just was no phone fix be it updates or some issue with the reader plus on/off switch. Lesson: Double check your electronics during the first 30 days very thoroughly. Do not accept a small issue like a fingerprint reader since there may be bigger issues to be discovered after the warranty ends. _______________________________________ The biggest liability with this computer is how bad IBM and Lenovo support is. They ran me in circles for 2 hours. They create insanity by asking you do to the same thing and expecting a different result. 1) the fingerprint scanner does not appear to work with Windows 11. 2) Lenovo support is practically non-existent with them running me in circles. 3) At one point their robot asked for the ID, but I could not get the ID for reasons that still confuses me. 4) At another point they wanted the "4 digit" for the machine type.... except that the machine type is 10 numbers and letters. 5) Finally if you get through you get the same thing everyone says, "we are currently experiencing high call volumes". When I hear that now I realize that whatever it is that I bought came with big flaws, or people would not be calling. 6) the BIGGEST ISSUE is that they have failed to coordinate what their output information is with what they want over the phone. They don't tell you to have certain information ready. Worse why don't they just ask for the SERIAL NUMBER, which would be a quick way to ID the computer configuration? I'd suggest RE-thinking if you want one of these. I suppose I'll get it figured out. Other computers I have had actually make set up hands free.... if something does not work, then there is a direction to go to fix it. Not with Lenovo/IBM. ... show more
