Very well made - sturdy and heavy duty. I started making my own dog food so ground up chicken back (which has bone in it) and beef. Need to grind once and then grind again to get all bones ground properly. Easy to use and easy to clean up. I watched some YouTube videos and they recommended freezing the parts before use. I did this and it helped but I don't think it is that big of a deal. Just makes it easier to go through the machine I guess. Over all I'm very pleased with this investment. ... show more

This is an awesome grinder. I got a big deer this past season and had butchered it myself resulting in a fair amount of frozen chunked up stew/burger meat. I've never known quite what to do with so much "stew meat" so I bought the LEM. I think this thing could grind rocks! It went through partially thawed venison like a hot knife through butter. We've enjoyed wonderful venison burgers and home made sausage since. I'm glad I paid for quality and power - worth every cent. Update: Here it is, 5 years after having purchased my LEM #12 Big Bite grinder and I have to report that it is still an absolute joy to use this thing. I just finished processing a nice buck and this beast worked as well as it did when brand new. I notice that the price has gone up since I bought mine (just like everything else!) so I consider my purchase as a very good investment. Get this grinder! It's well worth it! ... show more

    • Great meat grinder, terrible sausage stuffer...

The grinder is nice but will stall on lots of fat like grinding for sausage. The sausage stuffing function is 100% worthless, period. Full stop. Go buy a dedicated stuffer. LEM makes a great one. But, these grinders are grinders. I just ground 15 pounds of brisket trimmings for sausage and the grind was done in less than 5 minutes, both course and fine grinds. The stuffer function failed as the mix was just pushing back out of the auger and not into the 24mm tube to the casing. So I just took out my 5 pound stuffer and zipped through it while my two boys took turns turning the crank. I was hoping the grinder could make this part easier but it made a complete mess of things. ... show more

I went with the .75 hp motor to make sure the grinder could handle the serious work I had in mind. My first project was to turn a 9 lb. pork butt into Italian sausage. Sure enough, after deboning the butt, it was sufficient to cut it into strips that were smaller in diameter than the throat of the feed tube. No need to cut the pieces any smaller than that. I used the 3/8" plate for the first pass, then the small one plus the middle-size filler tube for stuffing, after I had spiced and mixed the first grind. I got perfect sausage, and the grinder was barely warm at completion. This was a good buy, well packaged, and delivered early. I have zero negative comments for it. ... show more

    • no reverse option, if you need for grinding chicken & duck necks you’ll need that!!

for $400 i did not expect to find out 3/4 of the way through grinding duck necks that there is NO reverse on this LEM grinder...makes no sense for it to not have that feature when the cheaper $159 LEM little version has it so i assume this one did too but, nope.. It did ground up the necks perfectly and super fast and in literally 2 mins i had about half pound left out of 5lbs worth to do when unit decided to jam up and it was not because of the bones but, because of the skin/etc on the necks, it was wrapped around the whatever you call it piece that blade goes on and around part the blade.. Normally you can unscrew front and run power on to get plate off but hmm that doesn’t work when there is a jam so getting the plate out so i could unjam grinder was super annoying, plate was stuck, like it was super glued on by the fat/skin and it took longer trying to get that off then it did to grind the duck necks...grrr. this did work super well otherwise, built like a horse (and heavy) and not that loud at all but, i am sitting here thinking about returning it for grinding chicken and duck necks will be a regular occurrence..had this had a reverse option, it would of been the best!! ... show more

I cannot imagine using a Kitchen-Aid attachment after this. It's solid, well-built, and powerful. I put it back in the box (a great, sturdy, durable box and styrofoam inset) after every use. I clean it and use it weekly. I bought a bunch of different plates - and I use them for show-meat, but the mainstay is the 4.5mm plate which came with the unit (I use that plate for beef to make farce - pureed/emulsified beef to hold water and fat against the pork). I typically use a 10mm plate for pork or pork fat. You can stall this machine if you use long - greater than 3" - frozen (not 'par-frozen', I mean at like, -15'F) strips of meat. Anything warmer and shorter, you're not stalling this. It will leave a ring of smashed meat at the tip of the impeller, behind the blade. It's ruptured/smashed enough you can chop it with a 6" chef's knife and call it good. It's super easy to clean - soak in warm soapy water. It's super easy to sterilize - soak in a sterile batch. I don't really need the plunger - 99% of what goes into the throat of the grinder gets pulled through within seconds. Occasionally you get a piece wanting to 'surf'. I love this grinder. Really cannot stress this enough - don't get something lesser if you are serious about sausage. ... show more
