I've only used it once to make 4 pounds of homemade cat food. Next batch will probably be larger. I had chicken thigh bones with skin and bones. I used the large plate, then the medium plate and then the fine plate. The bones came out real small. The Cats love the food. The grinder didn't even flinch at the thighs w/ the bones. Came out perfect and was easy to clean. Hope it last a long time because I like and the cats love the food. I used an online recipe that a Vet has made. It is partially cooked and has heart, liver, gizzard, thighs with bones and skin, vitamins. ... show more

This is very well made and does the job with ease. I processed an entire deer, minus the backstraps, in one sitting, plus 30 lbs. of pork shoulder to mix the meat to the right fat ratio. I can't think of any improvements that are needed. As with most meat-grinders, it is best to use partially-frozen pre cut meat chunks. I only use the coarse grind attachment for burger and sausage. It is advisable to have a large meat-lug tote for using this grinder because it produces a lot of ground meat fast. The sausage stuffing function works very well too! ... show more

Bought this product in 2020 and have been using it every year since to process the deer and elk the family hunts/harvests every year. It is super reliable and has saved us thousands of dollars on having our deer and elk processed at a commercial meat processing plant. It's a big up front cost, but will save you thousands down the road in processing fees if you are willing to process your own wild game. ... show more

Very well made - sturdy and heavy duty. I started making my own dog food so ground up chicken back (which has bone in it) and beef. Need to grind once and then grind again to get all bones ground properly. Easy to use and easy to clean up. I watched some YouTube videos and they recommended freezing the parts before use. I did this and it helped but I don't think it is that big of a deal. Just makes it easier to go through the machine I guess. Over all I'm very pleased with this investment. ... show more

After much research and deliberation, I purchased the LEM Big Bite 12. I have been making my own cat food for slightly over 3 years. The grinder I had been using did a good job, but really bogged down on the thigh joint bones. The effort seemed to go on forever, and I had begun to put off making their food until the very last gunfire! The old grinder was incredibly noisy and I had to purchase shooter's ear protection to save my hearing! Prior to my purchase, I made 3 calls to the LEM Customer Service department prior to my purchase. Their Customer Service Team has been very helpful and very pleasant to deal with. My questions with regard to size, measurements of the rubber feet, and most particularly, the fact that I was going to be grinding chicken thigh bones, and would the grinder stand up to the usage I intended? I was pleasantly surprised when a Customer Service rep stated that "because of the many requests they were receiving from customers to make their own pet food, they tested their grinders in order to be able to recommend the correct grinder for the job." THAT SOLD ME!! The LEM arrived on Tuesday, catfood was scheduled for Saturday. The machine is extremely quiet and made instant work out of 60# of chicken thighs and chicken parts. Amazing!! And this monster has a 5 year warranty! By the By, at the time of my purchase, the Big Bite 12 was cheaper through Amazon than purchasing it directly from LEM or at local retail stores. So we ground up 40 or so lbs of lamb. The course grind blade was amazing! We then switched to the fine and sadly needed to lower the bar of expectation. It did complete the task but took a very long time. Make sure the meat is near frozen. We also tried to use a 2" stainless tube to fill a seal bag. That was also a waste of time. We were better off filling the bags manually. I think to use the sausage stuffer tubes, the meat needs to be course ground as the fine seems to have more surface resistance? Don't know. For a straight grinder, it works. From my experience, using the fine grind takes patience and trying to push the meat through didn't really help. I finally just let the machine do it's thing. If you need a production machine, I don't believe the 12 is the one. For a couple animals a year, then sure, just don't be in a rush. Cheers ... show more

We were looking for a grinder for moderate use. Grinding our own meat is cost effective and safer than what they call "ground beef" in the store and we hunt venison, turkey and hog. (not planning on using for bone) Sturdy! Easy to Use! Very well made grinder with speed and efficiency. Love the fact that the majority of this machine is Stainless Steel. Very clear user instructions. Well packaged for shipping. Came in the next day! Glad I bought the 12 and not the 5 or the 8. The larger capacity is a HUGE time saver. Planning on ordering several of the additional attachments and accessories. This LEM grinder will be with us for years to come! ... show more
