  • Pleasantly surprised.
Style: Grinder Size: #8
First, I don't have a lot of experience with grinding meat and what experience I do have was with a small Oster food grinder. Second, I have only used my new grinder once but I did grind about 20lbs of pork and about 8 pounds of turkey. So, you should consider those two things when reading my review, My first impression of this grinder was it was heavier than I had expected. It's not a problem, just an observation. The next impression I had was how well constructed it looked. Just by looks, it appears this product was built to last. Next I spent some time getting familiar with the parts of the grinder. Then, I assembled it to get ready for my first grind. The parts all fit easily and I like the accessory draw built into the unit. All of the grinding plates and the cutter fit into it easily. After assembly, I turned the grinder on and the sound it made was probably the most surprising thing about this grinder. I mean, it's big, it's heavy, and it's a heavy-duty machine, surely, it must be loud too. My assumption was wrong, this grinder emits less noise than the small Oster grinders I had used in the past. Now for the actual grinding operation. I started with a coarse grind and the grinder made easy work of the pork I was feeding it...I had to hurry just to keep up with it. I see why they call it the "Big Bite" now. After chilling the coarse ground pork, I did the final fine grind. This grind is not as fast as the first coarse grind but it's still fairly easy. Even though a small amount of silver skin got into the grinder, I did not experience any clogs during my initial use. So, after one use, I am very happy with the Big Bite I purchased and feel I got a good value for what I spent on this grinder. ... show more

  • Excellent quality efficient grinder
Style: Grinder Size: #8
Ordered this to primarily simplify food prep for my three dogs and secondarily for use in grinding meat for my consumption. This has greatly simplified and shortened food prep time for my three dogs. They are raw fed and each eat different amounts, so cutting and prepping used to take hours for two weeks of their meals, 3 x 2meals x 14days. I now grind 18-24 pounds of meat + organs and can just weigh the right amount of ground meat in their prep containters. Takes about an hour to grind and portion. That includes weighing, cubing, grinding, portioning and clean up. 10lbs of meat and organs takes maybe 5 minutes at the most to grind once and maybe another 5 for a second grind. I don't even have to push the meat thru the hopper because the grinder just keeps pulling the cubed meat thru. It takes longer to cube than to grind. Prep and portioning is the majority of the time. The other thing to note is how quiet this grinder is. Noise is not even and issue while grinding. Cleanup is easy with the #8 stainless steel grinding mechanism. Soak everything for 5-10 minutes in hot water then clean. Have only ground beef a few times for burgers and immediately noticed the difference in taste grinding my own fresh meat. Eventually will try to make sausage. Just based on the time it's saved in food prep for the dogs, this has been a very worthwhile purchase, ... show more

  • Great, buy it!
Style: Grinder Size: #8
We’ve processed 5 deer and 2 elk with this and it had no problem. With each deer it’s never bogged down with more power to go. Its grinded with ease even when the meat was frozen. The quality of this machine is great. It’s easy to use and easy to clean. Functionally is a 10/10. After each grind the heat level never got over heated. It’s saved us $$$ ... show more

  • My favorite grinder!!!!
Style: Grinder Size: #8
The media could not be loaded. This is amazing!!!! Quiet! Fast! Easy to clean! Grinds really well! I have used other grinders before with poor results. This is a keeper for all my game meats!

  • Love it
Style: Grinder Size: #8
Nice heavy duty machine, used it a few times now to grind chuck, sirloin and short ribs, and am very happy with it. Clean up was easy, but manual says not to put the stuff in the dishwasher and wash by hand which is ok.

  • Strong and quiet, heavy
Style: Grinder Size: #8
Very powerful. Much quieter than the ones I used before due to nice materials and better quality. Heavy for a home. I wanted this one because of the stainless steel that is healthier than aluminum ones. And it is all stainless steel. Function is very simple. One button, one speed, no cable holder. The worm gear is long and well made for best meat delivery. The worm gear chamber is therefore much deeper than cheaper models and needs to be cleaned carefully. ... show more

  • Best buy I've made for my at home butcher shop.
Style: Grinder Size: #8
Pretext: I was a butcher for 5 years and have been hunting and processing my own game for over 10 years. I made the step up to this from the standard cheapo Cabelas grinder. Those things suck, I'm sorry if you wasted money on one too but BassPro has a great return policy and they've merged now. Anyway I needed an upgrade and After doing some research and crowd sourcing for something capable but not too big for home use (mind you well over 70% of the reccomendations I got were for Lem Big Bite #8). This thing is great. I processed 3 (illinois) whitetail deer this year and it moves 5x faster than the grinder I had before. I have had absolutely 0 issues or complaints. It comes apart and cleans easily but stays together and sturdy while I'm working. The feed tube is idiot proofed in that I probably couldn't fit my hand in there but its still big enough to work at a steady pace. I could easily get 30lbs double ground in a half hour. No thats not lightning pace but its not bad for something that fits on the kitchen table. I wouldn't recommend keeping it on the kitchen table but it would fit there. I clean my grinder and keep it in the original box under my butchers table. I cant think of any cons or complaints... its kind of expensive but I suppose this is an instance where you really are paying for quality. ... show more
