I bought this to replace a cheaper grinder that annoyed me for the last time - had to be bolted to a table, was loud, hard to clean, and threw deer meat while grinding because the hopper opening was too large. Also had exposed/removable ball bearing rings that were a real pain to clean. This one (the #8) is much quieter, works great, solid, and heavy enough to not need bolting to anything. Super easy to clean especially if you have a bottle brush or something similar. All stainless steel except the hopper which I think is aluminum. Plus, I love that you not only get a coarse blade and a fine blade but a nice pop-out drawer on the front of the grinder to store the blades. Oh, and it also comes with an auger pulling tool so you don't have to turn it on and then off just to pop the blades out when you're done. ... show more

This thing is a beast!! We were using the grinder attachment in my KitchenAid mixer to process deer and sheep, and it just couldn’t keep up. Wed usually break something half way through the process, which is why we ordered this grinder - because we were left stuck in a kitchen full of meat that needed grinding! This guy right here worked faster than we could. I couldn’t move fast enough to keep the chute full. My bus and couldn’t cut fast enough to keep me going in the grinder. The media could not be loaded. I bought the big bit #8 for use during deer season. I finally got to try it out after youth hunt weekend. I want to start by stating how impressed I was with the durability of the unit. Everything is stainless steel, it is heavy duty and seems very durable. There is no reverse on this unit. I was contemplating on whether I should get the next size up do to the amount of burger I usually grind. But I decided to give the #8 a try. Without a doubt, I was extremely impressed right out the gate. It was extremely easy to use, setup and clean. I think it took me longer to unbox it and clean it than it did to grind 12 lbs of burger. The unit did not hesitate or bog at all while I fed all my meat through the first time, OR the second time. It just kept eating as much as I forced too it. I seen some reviews of stating how noisy it was, I thought it wasn't bad at all compared to the Walmart special I had bought a few years back. Before to grind about 12 lbs of burger with my Walmart special would take me at least an hour. The previous unit would bog down, get clogged up and wine like no other. But NOT the Big Bite #8. I ground 12lbs of burger in 4-5 minutes. I ran it through a 2nd time and it only took me about 5 minutes again. So to say the least, I am extremely happy with this purchase. It is definitely saving me ALOT of time grinding compared to what I had before. I would highly recommend this unit, and would definitely buy it again. ... show more

Great quality machine. It is stable, as it stays put while grinding. Didn't clog or bog down. My husband was wearing my mixer out using it to grind meat with the special attachment for it, so we got him this. We buy roasts on sale and make our own ground beef. We also grind other meats. He has only used it once but is very happy with it. Only complaint is that it did not come with the foot switch as stated in the description. This is an Amazon mistake, not LEM's. LEM doesn't sell bundles, which I found out after calling them. ... show more

Do not, I repeat do NOT buy a cheap meat grinder! Yes there are plenty of no name grinders that cost 1/3 of this one but they all suck and will break down on you in months, not years. All of the cheaper models use plastic gears and aluminum parts. Just read the reviews of some of the cheaper ones. You’ll see. LEM grinders are pretty famous among hunters and for darn good reason! I got the #8 1/2HP version as it’s the smallest one recommended. Every part is heavy duty stainless steel! I had bought Costco chuck roast pack (2 roasts) weighing in at almost 8lbs. I partially froze them and cut them about 1.5” cubes. This grinder ran though all 8lbs in under 3 minutes. I didn’t even have to use the pusher! It never bogged down or anything. Zero clogs and zero issues. And that was using the finest grind too. Very impressed with this machine. Well worth the extra money to get a quality grinder. ... show more
