Beautiful journal. Smells good and the paper is good. Wish it wasn’t wide rule. A couple pages missed the lines but no big deal. I’ve used different pens/prncils and haven’t had any issues with bleeding or smearing. I’m going for my third purchase. I’ve seen a couple others now and the monster journals are my favorite . The weight, the feel, I love them!

I’m upgrading the score of this journal to 4-Stars. I now realize the paper is hand cut, and probably the reason for the slight uneven edges. But like I said, the paper is high quality and feels like beautiful cloth. I don’t give the 5x7 journal 5-stars because it’s just way too small at that size. I know those dimensions sound like good enough in theory, but once you put in your hands and start using it, suddenly becomes very tiny real estate. My hands were cramping up, just from trying to write smaller. At this size, it’s just too chunky and not easy to keep the journal flat open while writing. But that’s just a design issue, and a personal preference. I just returned this journal (such an easy process, thank you!), and the refund is being processed with no fuss. I decided to purchase the 8x7 larger version and it’s gorgeous! Perfect in every way. I’ll be reviewing the larger journal separately and adding pics and video. This journal is very sturdy, thick, and the leather feels waxed, like something you'd use to make a leather backpack. It's not hard, but if your're looking for soft pliable buttery leather, this is not it. Maybe it will get softer after a lot of use. We'll see. The paper feels like good quality, thick too, almost like fabric. I like touching the paper, it feels substantial. But i'm not a fan of how it's cut. It looks like it was cut with a hand paper trimmer. It's a bit uneaven, not too bad, but not something i'd gift to someone. And some of the paper edges look smooshed, especially the corners. This is why i give it 3-stars, it's a good journal for personal use. B+, but not exquisit. I wish I had purchased the larger version too. The way this journal is constructed, i think it would be less chunky and easier to open, at the larger size.

I have a collection of handmade journals that I use, and use up, as a writer. I really like this hand made leather journal particularly. I've purchased four of these in both the sizes. The larger size is great for drawing and keeping daily journaling. The smaller one is a bit more easy to tote around. The larger one can be a bit cumbersome for travel, but the paper is larger for writing extensively. I like my journals to be of similar size and look on the shelf so tend to stick to one size for myself. This is the first hand made journal I've had that the pages were sewn into the leather cover. The others that I have the paper notebook is replaceable. Those the paper is thinner and average in quality. The pages in this amazing leather journal are directly hand sewn into the leather cover in sections making it nice if you wanted to use it for a variety of subjects. The thicker paper of this journal literally causes the ink to just glide from any pen I've used. The paper feels hand-pressed, yet smooth. The most unique feel of any journal I've used. The paper has occasional spots or streaks here and there from the paper pulp on a few pages throughout the book giving it an antiquated appearance. It gives it a nice texture. I have gifted this journal a few times and the recipients raved of them also. The paper holds color well from colored ink or quality colored pencils. Paper is thick enough that the ink from a fountain pen does not bleed through. The journal comes with two velum sheets, I believe to separate the leather from the paper when packaged. I keep them in the journal and use between freshly written pages as I turn pages and keep writing as precaution to protect the previous pages from any not-yet-dried ink marks. The leather cover is soft, thick, sturdy, and authentic. The strap wrap closure is easy to use and a quick and easy way to seal the journal closed. The blank journal arrives in a clear, plastic seal bag and then put down inside a handmade linen drawstring bag. The whole presentation is very quaint. Only one of these four journals had a dead, dried, smashed fly between the pages midway through the journal. It gave me the willies but had to just scrape it off, circle it with a comment, and continue. I couldn't very well return it as I'd already written in it up to that point. It made me appreciate that these journals are truly handmade. Perhaps on someone's lap from a small village in a far away jungle , but handmade nonetheless. I do wish the price of these were more affordable for me as I would buy more of them more often. Every purchase I've made the price goes up a bit. That's not fun, but I get so much joy from writing and drawing in this journal because the paper is so amazing! I love the feel and look of the whole thing. These journals are really quite nice if you like fabulous quality. The smoothness and easy flow of writing makes me want to just keep on going. Love, love, love these! Highly recommend.
