  • The things he creates are pretty amazing. The sets do work well together
I got this for my 5 year old son for Christmas, along with a couple of other sets of the Learning Resources Engineering sets. The kid loves to build things and he is extremely creative. He doesn't really build the items on the sets, but that's okay. The things he creates are pretty amazing. The sets do work well together, as well as separately, which is pretty cool. The colors are bright and fun and are easy for young hands to manipulate. While the 5 year old is at school, my 2 1/2 year old also tries to build with the sets. He can't do much else than stick the legs into the bases, but he has fun with it. I also like to build with this set. I don't know why, but it's fun. So, it's fun all around!! Buy just one set, or several, but it's good STEM for young kiddos. ... show more

  • Really fun toy
This is a great toy for kids who love to put things together and build. It’s comes with large cards as the directions, front and back, with simple directions the kids can follow. The only thing is the pieces are interchangeable so you can’t build the whole playground at one time.

  • Let your little engineer learn and play while tinkering!
Children can learn a lot about problem solving and cause and effect by tinkering with STEM kits. I love this one and so does my five year old. She loves Legos but I wanted to add a little something new to her selections. Some of these pieces don’t mesh as easily as I would like. She has needed help with attaching some of the pieces. Other pieces don’t hold well and will frustrate her when building her playground. In a perfect world, the pieces would just work well together, but I also like that she has to figure out alternatives along the way. These kits are a little pricey especially considering the feel of the plastic. It doesn’t seem super durable long term or in rough hands. Again, this isn’t problematic for me because I like that it teaches patience and being careful with materials. I recommend for all little engineers! ... show more

When I first opened this set I was impressed with the individual instruction cards. As a therapist I will be using this for clients and it will be great to give the instructions to one portion of the playground at a time. I also really like how there is a question on each card that encourages thought about the structure he built or a better way to build it. Ex. Which way would provide the most shade? I haven't used it with my clients yet but I messed around with it my self and the prices fit together pretty easily and the instructions are easy to follow. You do need to be 5+ for this, I can't wait for my son to be old enough to play, his inquisitive little brain will love it! ... show more

  • Cute, but...
These were super cute. My kids were very eager and excited to design and build a playground! There were a lot of pieces to build what was on the cards or for them to build their own ideas. However, the pieces didn't fit together well, and the instructions were lacking. It was tricky for us to see exactly what we were supposed to be doing. Plus, the parts in the kit were different from the parts in the images. The slide didn't stay attached to the structure, and the pieces disconnected on their own. If your kid is one who likes to build Lego, but not play with what they've built, this might be a good kit for them. But if your child is like mine, and they want to play with the stuff they build, you might want to pass this kit up for some Lego or Magnetiles or Snap Circuits. ... show more

  • Great for learning/building/thought provoking
We just received the Learning Resources Engineer Set in the mail a few days ago and have had a blast playing with all the interchangeable pieces. We thought at first that we would be able to create a full playground (my daughter wanted her little Shopkins to play on it), but in actuality we were only able to create small individual parts of the playground. I would definitely recommend this for kids over 5 as it does require using problem solving, logic & basic engineering practices. The cardboard box is great for storage, and the cards have challenges and some thought provoking questions on them to help kids get creative. Definitely a great purchase - hours of entertainment! ... show more

  • great STEAM toy
The challenge cards show the pieces to use to build the structures and a STEAM question to get the kids thinking and problem-solving. If there was a sectioned storage box to keep all the different pieces this would greatly add to the value of the set I hope learning resources would design one soon I would buy this set again Update learning resources sent me a whole new set when I told them my set had a missing piece great customer service ... show more

  • Don’t
They won’t stand, it’s all a bit wiggly, it’s not possible to use it with figure toys to pretend they are in a playground… not worth buying.
