Picking out a video cam monitor for your kid is annoyingly complicated -- everything seems like it will work well. I think this one is 5 Stars for what it is -- but it's not as robust as more expensive/complicated options out there. So my two cents on the LeapFrog 2 Piece Set (Fixed Cam)... THIS IS FOR YOU IF... -If you just need a simple, straight forward, reliable, rechargeable baby monitor -If you like to have choice between video or audio-only -If you don't want to rely on wi-fi or have it connect to your smartphone -If you don't want to spend $$$ on a baby monitor -If you want any of the other specified features THIS IS NOT FOR YOU IF... -If you want to pan-tilt the camera -If you like having the video connected to your phone -If you need multiple cameras MY EXPERIENCE... Prior to this one I've used an audio-only monitor and the parent unit ran on non-rechargeable regular batteries (and drained them quickly) or it needed to be plugged in. It met the most basic of my needs, but definitely was lacking in features and usefulness. With this LeapFrog 2 Piece Set I've upgraded -- the rechargeable nature is key for me so that I have portability without worry. And I like that it is a secure connection so that I don't have to worry about anyone else seeing/hearing my baby or me. The long range connection is also needed so I can wander around during my babe's sleeps and not worry about losing signal and missing when she needs me. I bought this for my little ones who constantly get up out of bed or have bad dreams while I'm downstairs with the wife. This has been really great to keep an eye on my kids while they sleep. The moment they have a bad dream or start to get out of bed, I'm able to easily hear/see them and head back upstairs to start the bedtime ritual all over again. Volume is great. I love this monito the picture quality is great as is the sound. You can use this for the young ones that you want to watch and even the dogs or a baby watching at night or day. You can be down in the basement and know that you can watch what is going on upstairs and hear what is going on upstairs

We traded out a higher-grade video baby monitor for this one because some of the functions in our original video monitor were no longer working. So far so good with this one! The only few things we've noticed is the cord should be longer to plug in both the charging cord for the receiver as well as the cord should be longer for the camera. That alone posed a few issues right away, but we were able to work around the short cords. Secondly, the camera doesn't move or rotate remotely. This is a feature we were used to with our old monitor. Also, not a complete deal breaker. So far so good with all other functions so we are pleased. ... show more

I'm using this with an older toddler from the basement to the first floor (less than 150ft direct from camera to monitor). So, it performs the function of "the kid is still there" checks. However, when I had an infant, I had a 4k camera so I could watch their chest rise and fall. This will not do that. This drops frames when the subject of the camera moves too fast and doesn't recognize those little movements. The monitor then looks a little like a slideshow sometimes but again, the child is still _there_. The night vision is hit or miss. We run a separate sound machine/night light and it's dim and off to the side. Some nights, the night vision kicks on just fine. Other nights, it seems to think the teeny amount of light out of sight from the camera from the night light is enough and doesn't. When it does work, it works well and is a crisp, clear picture quality. The walkie talkie portion works "okay". You really have to get loud or be close to the microphone hole on the front of the unit so they can hear clearly. I didn't realize this came with a temperature sensor until I had it in hand and I actually really like that feature. It's nice to see how much warmer her room is for some reason and I've double checked it with a separate sensor and sure enough, it's +1-2 degrees in there compared to the living room. I have not tested the battery life since giving it a full charge but when it first came with 3 bars, it almost immediately dropped to 2 and then 1. In less than an hour. I now run it plugged it but it will get full testing in the future so I will update if it ends up under performing then. ... show more

Exactly what I needed for my parents house when they babysit my newborn. No wifi, no special settings, just plug and play with good picture and audio. I needed a baby monitor that didn't rely on a WiFi signal because some of the places go to do not get internet connection but I still wanted to be able to use this camera. The range isn't great but it works for my needs. The LCD screen is on the small side but big enough to see and the controls work well too.
