The Roman shade came with all of the materials necessary for installation: the shade and a wrench. Instructions are included and were simple once we got past a brief moment of confusion when we read that we were to tear off the outer corners at the top of the shade. Rather than use "tear" it should probably have said to "gently peel the corners back from the hook-and-loop fastening" which allows you to adjust the tension bar that holds the shade in place. When it is securely in place per the instructions, the corners are smoothed back onto the hook-and-loop fastening. Once we took it out of the box and plastic wrapping, it took my husband literally no more than 5-7 minutes or possibly even less time to install it, and it is so simple to use. You simply find the fold with a flat metal rod in it, grasp it gently in the center of the rod, and lift to let light in or pull down to block light from entering through your window. You can stop anywhere between fully open and fully covered to allow more or less light. I have no idea how it works without the cords and drapery pins of the curtains we previously had on the window, but it works beautifully and smoothly. Because it fits inside the window casing, it is much more effective at blocking out light. The material is a good quality cloth, with a choice of a few colors. I wish we had replaced our old plastic-backed curtains with this shade years ago. Just make sure before ordering that you measure the INSIDE of your window casing width and the length of your window accurately to insure that you won't have gaps. ... show more

Overall I am happy with this window shade. The “fabric” looks/feels good and not thin or cheap but it’s not a natural fabric. The color is acceptable but I wish a little warmer and slightly darker. They seem pretty well made but 4 stars because you can see light through the sew seams (imagine a horizontal side to side, dotted line every 4 inches top to bottom.) I do not think these will provide much thermal protection-they are not that thick and are in between black out and light blocking- which I assumed before purchasing and fine with. Very easy to hang just measure twice in advance! They are nothing special when seen from the outside and wish they had a shear backer panel to improve that part. Lastly mine did not hang exactly level but apparently adjustments can be made with the two cord mechanisms to fix. If I can’t resolve that I will update this review. I would buy again and will be for a few other windows - but for side and back of house windows. ... show more
